Chapter 4:

Chapter 3: Into battle

Kingdom of Light

Despite my grand gesture of going after Onyx and Draksis Winter told me I would have to wait until we got more information regarding Onyx and a better method to boarding his mainship without getting obliterated, many of the battles in this war were fought away from the kingdom, on the outskirts, like the one Im currently partaking in, or off world. Most of this wars battles lately have comprised of small skirmishes between the kingdoms Adventurers and the Abyss soldiers, either side is yet to make a move as big as the siege Draksis tried a few months back, despite not being able to wield an energy affinity I was holding my own pretty well, being able to wield a close and long range weapons were crucial when becoming an adventurer and I was getting better at both, though I preferred using a sword. This battle was coming to a close as the rest of the abyssal soldier fled, however most of the bigger raids were being lead by Cass, he's one of the Council members and a close friend, and it was a unanimous decision by the Council for me to remain on smaller scale battles like the ones fought on Star and its moons mainly out of fear that if I fell they would remain leaderless for an unforeseeable amount of time, the king had no ties to the royal family but he was allowed to rule with the first queens blessing, something were out of at the moment. This battle however, had gone smoothly, we head back to the main HQ in the kingdom to rest up and await further orders. The generals were the ones to discuss the next course of action and how it should be taken, “ The raid on their base on Eclipse went as expected, they had made one of the old dungeons into their HQ, we were able to overtake it easily since we have information regarding the layout of that specific area,” Cass explains to Winter and the other Generals about the siege he lead. It seems his battle had gone well, the broadsword sheathed on his back glew slightly in the dim lighting of the meeting room, it was the kings, He had inherited it directly from him but he was also the only one to lift it, according to Clover the blessing of the first queen placed on the broadsword was made incredibly heavy, as if the energy had condensed into and made itself apart of the metal. They were going over the reports from previous battles to see if any of them would shed light onto Onyx’s plans but unfortunately nothing has come up, it seemed for now Onyx is trying to push us back and setup the kingdom as the final site for this war, “ Onyx can wait, for now we have to focus on driving the Abyssals further out of Star,” Winter explains, “ which is why you, Caelus, will be going to assist the adventurers on Blight-1, who we’ve been cut off from so we have no way of knowing whats happening,” Commander winter orders, “ Hopefully we can gain something more from this battle but for now that is all, good luck,” Winter finishes, After grabbing a few things I immediately make my way to Blight-1. It seemed like one of the Abyssals big shots has finally made itself known, that or the adventurers had been outmaneuvered and lost their comms. I was able to land on the moon safely and locate the base without seeing any Abyssal soldiers yet, allowing me to regroup with the other adventurers who had taken shelter within an old base here, “ We were caught off guard by sudden appearance of one of Onyx’s personnel, he had cut a lot of us down and severed our comms, but we managed to break away from him and regroup here, “ relays the wounded leader, it seems he managed to make it out just barely, “ you stay here and rest, I’ll lead what remains in beating the Abyssal soldiers, just leave the leader to me,” I tell the rest of them, we would begin once they were ready. Once I had gathered everyone we prepared to set out, the wounded leader joining us despite what I said, “ Captain Ren, I’m the leader of the squad here and I can still fight, I’ve seen there base I can lead you there,” He adds, he’s worried that the newbie trying to fight one of Onyx’s personnel would get himself killed and possibly all of them, I don’t blame him. As we approached closer to their base the more abyssal soldiers started to appeared, cutting through any abyssals that came my way as we pushed further into this skirmish. Blight-1, one of the moons of Star but also the sight of this battle bore a similar appearance to one of Stars grass fields, despite being a moon it was lush with trees and other plant life with small dunes of gray sands. According to the books, that while Star was reshaping it she had bled onto the moon, her blood was rich with energy enough to give it plant life, and somewhere northwest was a lake with what remained of that blood. None of the kingdoms intruded upon the lands despite the temptation of power offered by the lake, as per an agreement made by the first rules centuries ago, they believed it best to leave this place untouched as the last remaining proof of their Goddess, and now the Abyssal have turned it into a field of war. The Abyssal had fallen back pretty far, their main base could be spotted through the foliage, but something felt off. We could sweep in and take them out here, concluding the battle on Blight-1 and so we charged in, the abyssals were moving northeastward, it seemed they were after the lake power. We seemed to be equal in number but we were able to catch them off guard and gained the slight upper hand, Ren coordinated his men and were able to push back against the enemy, seeing them in action made me wonder how they lost in the first place. The odd feeling I got from before remained, like I’ve overlooked something important, and then it hit me, literally, a spear flew past me from the side at a freighting speed which was unbelievable when I had reared my head back as the spear flew past me, The now present enemy to the left of me seemed to be the leader that caused all this trouble, I had almost forgotten the personnel Ren had mentioned before, the one who cause them to fall back. “ A kid like you shouldn’t be on the field, but I commend your bravery, and for being able to dodge my strike just then, “ The enemy states. I don’t know either how I was able to dodge such a strike, it was luck for sure but it gave me enough confidence to try and fight this guy, “ Were you the one who struck down the adventurers?” I ask the stranger, he was clad in dark jade armor, he simple smirks, “ I am, what will you do kid, get revenge for those weaklings? They went down rather easily for such prestigious adventurers of Luminos!” He taunts, he was trying to get me to charge in, that wasn’t my only goal, “ If I take your head this whole battle will end, maybe then they’ll let me go after Onyx,” Caelus said throwing his own taunt, grinning as he prepared to fight, “ thats one grand ambition you have, going right after the leader. I, Agrai, Champion of Onyx will be your ruin!” Agrai booms, he had drawn a claymore of a dark stone, Caelus was the first one to swing, his broadsword clashing against the Argai, whom was able to wield the long blade with ease as if it were a shortsword. Despite going against a champion Caelus persisted, they swiftly exchanged blows in a flurry of slashes, the sound of stone on metal rang soft through the battle, Caelus was giving it his all but he feared it wasn’t enough, he would draw onto his affinity, a cold burst of energy flowed through his arms as he felt power would rely on this sudden arise. Agrai, who was confident in winning felt unease, he continued fighting at the same pace as before, Caelus was slowly beginning to push Agrai back. The soldiers on both sides had forgotten they were at war with each other, either side standing opposite to the other they spectated as their leaders went at it. This time around Agrai was on the defensive, Caelus was able to keep up his onslaught of attacks as he pressed the abyssal leader, before Caelus could land a hit on Agrai one of the soldiers spectating had launched itself into the fray forcing Caelus to evaded back, in seeing this the adventurers were hesitant on whether or not they should step in as well, “ defend the captain, we wont let the abyssal win!” yells Ren, and the battle resumes both sides fighting so their leader can emerge victorious. The battle was drawing to an end, Caeluss arms began to ache and he was unable to draw on the power again, Agrai was able to discern this, “ you held on for a surprisingly long time considering your opponent, but Im afraid it ends now!,” Agrai shouts, in one swift downward strike Agrai brings his weapon down on Caelus, and in the heat of the moment he prepared to take the impact instead of attempting to dodge, holding the sword above to take the force of this attack Caelus was pushed into the ground, using his right arm as leverage to keep the guard from breaking, the ground continued to break from the force of the strike, sinking him into the earth of the moon. Whether it was luck or not, Caelus would not perish in this battle. The ground would continue to fracture, until it broke, opening into a chasm that would engulf both groups, Agrai and Caelus included, they had fallen into a Dungeon of Blight-1.
