Burning in the Spring

In the early morning, Kawada Sakura excitedly visits her favorite cherry tree, climbing it in hopes of touching its petals. To her surprise, she is spotted by Kitahara Sho, a young man who once lived in the same town before leaving under mysterious circumstances. Sakura is flustered, and they exchange only a few words before parting ways.

Later that night, during one of her customary strolls, Sakura finds herself in a secluded clearing atop the hills. There, she stumbles upon a mesmerizing campfire made from burning branches and leaves. Enthralled by its beauty amidst the darkened woods, she never imagines she will encounter Sho once again, alone in this remote place.

As they talk about their reasons for being there, the atmosphere suddenly takes a dark turn when Sho mentions the burnt house in the clearing. In that moment of eerie intensity, he says to Sakura, "I would like to burn you."
