Chapter 0:

Legend of the vanquisher

Blood swan

"There was a time in this country,
when demons roamed the northern lands.

They drank the blood of men
and fed upon the blooming of humankind.

But the gods sent forth a warrior,
born in the heartless snow,
whose spirit could not rest while evil endured.

He who struck down the maiden of snakes as a mere child,
with nothing but a stone from the cold riverbed.

He who held no hatred for any man
and he who unsheathed his sword only against the demons,
for the heavens had granted him the strength to destroy what was wicked and inhumane.

He who battled the deceitful Yuki-onna for three days and three nights,
as his blood and sweat turned to ice within the breath of winter.

To call him a legend was folly,
For he was no tale carved upon the stones of time.

Unlike the adventurers sung of in ages past,
this man was but another human being—
A man of flesh and fear,
who smiled warmly through the snow,
for those who could not smile in the cold themselves."
