Chapter 3:

Awakening of the royal mech

The Mech Pilgrim

Elliot woke up on a soft, unbelievably warm bed, the blankets tucked around him like a cloud. His head pulsed, his nose felt like it had been hit by a meteor, and the room seemed far too fancy for someone like him.
“What… happened to me?” he groaned, rubbing his temples.
A cold voice answered from a chair near the window.
“Elliot was your name, right?”
He flinched at the brightness pouring in. The room was sunlight and gold, polished stone, velvet curtains—and sitting in the center of it all was the princess.
She looked effortlessly royal: long dark hair tied with a silver clasp, sharp eyes that held no warmth, and posture perfectly straight as if she had been sculpted from ice. Her armor—half removed—rested at her side, intricate and marked with blue magical sigils.
He blinked and turned away from the glare.“Uh—yes, Elliot is my name. And I don’t know yours.”
She crossed one leg over the other, unimpressed.“Elaina. Princess Elaina of this land. Now explain yourself. The general said he found you wandering the desert… with a very strange hairstyle.”
Elliot snorted. “You got humor, I’ll give you that. As for how I got here… I was trying to fix my dad’s old generator and—BOOM—I end up stranded in your kingdom. And those hideous monsters outside? Yeah, they gave me a nice warm welcome.”
He grinned. She did not.
Still blinded by the sunlight, he tried turning toward her again—slowly, carefully—to avoid fainting like last time.
And when he finally saw her face—
His heart stopped.
Princess Elaina was stunning. Her eyes were a fierce, piercing violet. A thin scar traced her jawline, small but proud, like a reminder she was no fragile royal. Her lips were soft, but her expression was carved from stone. Even sitting still, she radiated authority and danger.
Elliot’s face heated instantly.
Elaina noticed… and for the first time, her expression cracked—just a little. Not warmth, but curiosity.
“Are you alright? Do you have a fever?”She leaned in and touched his cheek.
A shock ran through Elliot.
“I—NO—I MEAN—YES—I’M FINE!” he stuttered, launching himself backward until he hit the wall.*She touched me. She actually touched me.*
Before either of them spoke again, the door slammed open so hard the hinges screamed.
A soldier rushed in, face pale as if he’d seen a demon.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Elliot muttered.
The soldier ignored him entirely.“Princess! The monsters have broken through the barrier! We need reinforcements—now!”
Elaina immediately stood, her cloak whipping behind her. She moved like a blade drawn from its sheath—sharp, fast, dangerous.
Elliot blinked. “Weird. Extremely weird. Guess I’ll just stay here and think about how the princess touched my fac—”
“Elliot!! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!” she shouted, grabbing him by the arm and dragging him across the room.
“WAIT—WHAT AM I DOING HERE? I swear I won’t be any help! LET ME GO!”
“We need all hands on deck,” she snapped. “We’ve lost soldiers. Innocent people are dying. Ready your station!”
“My what?!”
“Just follow me!”
She dragged him through winding metal corridors until they burst into the **battle station**—a huge dome filled with glowing runes, floating holographic screens, and towering metal mechs resting in suspended frames.
Her mech stood at the center—sleek, silver, with blue energy pulsing through its joints. A monarch’s machine.
Except its pilot was about to be… him.
“Oh crap,” Elliot muttered. “Oh crap oh crap—”
“Elliot!” she snapped again. “Move!”
He climbed into the cockpit beside her, the interior humming with ancient magic and futuristic tech. Screens surrounded them, and a crystalline core pulsed like a heart.
The mech’s eyes lit up.
Elliot’s instincts kicked in.
He grabbed the main lever and switches—understanding the layout in seconds, as if he’d known it forever.
Elaina stared at him. “How did you—?”
“No time!” he yelled.
The mech roared awake.
Metal plates shifted. Gears locked. Vents hissed with blue steam.
The first step hit the ground like thunder. The second shook dust off the ceiling.
Elliot laughed uncontrollably.
“In my world they’d NEVER let me drive something this magnificent! But NOW—now it’s MY turn!”
He slammed the lever forward.
The mech sprinted across the battlefield toward a towering beast with horns that glowed red-hot. The ground cracked behind them from the force.
Elaina braced herself.
The first punch landed—*BOOM!*The monster reeled, earth flying everywhere.
Elaina lifted the mech’s left arm, charging a magical fist with swirling energy. She drove it into the monster’s jaw, sending sparks of arcane fire through its body.
But the beast wasn’t done.
Its tail suddenly twisted—turning sharp like a spear.
Elliot barely had time to shout, “WATCH OUT—”
*SHRRK!*
The tail pierced the mech’s back, shattering the movement core.
The entire machine shuddered… froze… and sank to one knee.
“Damn it!” Elliot yelled.
The monster roared triumphantly and dragged the mech backward, toward a swarm of other monsters closing in like vultures.
Elliot ripped open the core panel. “Princess! Move the mech! ANY direction!”
“It can’t—”
“DO IT!”
Together, using the mech’s arms for leverage, they scraped the machine across the ground—dragging themselves and the monster farther and farther from the city walls.
Dust clouds rose behind them. The monster tore at the metal. Sparks flew.
When they were finally at the edge of the desert—
Elliot saw his chance.
“That’s far enough.”
He yanked the safety locks off the core. Blue light blasted from inside.
Elaina’s eyes widened. “Elliot—what are you doing?”
“Overloading it!”
“That will KILL you!”
“It’ll kill *all of us* if I don’t! Now GET IN HERE!”
He pulled her into a tiny protective compartment—barely big enough to hold them both. Their faces almost touched. Her breath hit his cheek.
For the first time, Elaina looked afraid.
But she trusted him.
“Do it,” she whispered.
He slammed his hand down on the final override as he started supplying more energy using the green stone he picked up on the floor from the base.
The core flashed with blue and green seemed like something that just came to life
*BOOOOOOM!!!*
A blinding explosion tore across the desert. The shockwave threw the mech—now a burning metal sphere—high into the sky. It arced over the walls and crashed into the city square.
Silence.
Smoke drifted.
Then the hatch burst open.
Princess Elaina climbed out, battered but alive, her armor glowing with leftover magic. The crowd gasped—then shouted her name in relief.
And then—
Elliot leaped out, covered in soot, hair sticking up worse than ever.
“BOOM!! THAT’S HOW WE DO IT, BABY!!!”
The whole plaza stared.
He didn’t care.
He’d survived.He’d saved the princess.
And he’d blown up a giant monster mech in another world.
Pretty good day, could've been better honestly.
