Laying in bed was all I could do. I’ve been in the hospital for the last three weeks. The doctor says that the disease is spreading throughout my body, and nothing they do can slow it down. The doctor tried to put on a brave face whenever he visited to check my vitals, but eventually, he stopped coming. Maybe, last Wednesday was the last time he came in for my checkup. Bookmark here

The nurses did still bring food but would leave immediately after bringing the food and disposing the trash. I did not hate them for not stopping to chat with me as there was a pandemic going on in the world and with no cure. They probably didn’t want to catch it as it was highly contagious. This prevented me from being seen by family and friends since patients were on lockdown. Bookmark here

Not like I had any friends. I am a 22-year-old who was supposed to finish college this year. Funny, I did not expect this would be how I would go. Being in my roaring twenties, I was supposed to be invincible, having the time of my life, partying with friends, meeting the girl of my dreams, and finding my purpose.Bookmark here

Hah, who am I kidding? I’ve been in college for five years, and I did none of those things; I spent those years playing games, ignoring class, and my “social life“ to pursue my dream of becoming a pro gamer. I played over sixteen hours a day just to be called “A hardstuck diamond player.” Besides, I was too old by now to even compete against the fifteen-year-old prodigies. So I wasted six years of my life doing what amounted to nothing.Bookmark here

When did it start to go downhill? Probably when I got kicked out of high school due to “plagiarism,” You tell me how do you plagiarize the results in a group project. I repeat a Group assignment. I believe that it was a setup since I was the only-Bookmark here

Cough! Cough! Cough!Bookmark here

Ah, it seems my time is finally running out. Shouldn’t doctors be coming to check up on me?Bookmark here

I reach for the button on the side of the bed that should call for the nearest medical professional. Bookmark here

Click! The bed began to recline.Bookmark here

Tears welled up in my eyes. I even choked on my laugh.Bookmark here

“Ha, I just… didn’t…want…to......die…...alone.”Bookmark here

This ringing sound persisted as the last thing I heard as well as the first thing I heard.Bookmark here

I did not expect the sweet embrace of death to be this comforting, It was warm, and I felt safe, something I hadn’t felt in a while. I started to settle in place, and the feeling was strange; it wasn’t cotton or a pillow-like cloud; it felt like something I had forgotten. Bookmark here

“Oh, look how cute he is, dear.”Bookmark here

My ears perked up at the sound of this voice. Death doesn’t speak, does it? And calling me cute would be an overstatement. I was ugly before I slept in my own piss for a couple of days. Bookmark here

“-he has two tails!”Bookmark here

Two tails? She seems surprised at that; shouldn’t she be more surprised at the fact I even have a tail. I need to see what she is talking about.Bookmark here

Mmmmm. Bookmark here

My eyes remained shut tight. I couldn’t open them for the life of me. What is this? A blindfold. Help!Bookmark here

“Kyuuuu!”Bookmark here

The female let out a cute laugh from that.Bookmark here

“It looks like he’s trying to open his eyes, dear.”Bookmark here

I felt myself get carried off by someone who was not at all soft; their hands had too many bumps, too rough!Bookmark here

“Kyuuuu!”Bookmark here

“Sorry, son, but you can’t open your eyes, yet typically we’re blind for the first few weeks.”Bookmark here

Blind? No, no, no, I can’t be blind. I need to see what’s happening.Bookmark here

Mmmmmm.Bookmark here

“Son, you’re going to hurt yourself doing that.”Bookmark here

“He might not be able to understand you, dear. Just give him back to me; he was calmer before.”Bookmark here

Right as he was about to hand me off to what I assume is my mother, my eyes popped open.Bookmark here

I can see. Thank God!Bookmark here

“Kyuuu!”Bookmark here

Now, who is this? I looked at the man holding me, and he was gorgeous like from one of those reverse harems; short messy white hair, no facial hair, he was pretty young. But, but, his ears; they’re a fox’s!? Bookmark here

I shut my eyes. I don’t want to see anymore.Bookmark here

“What’s wrong, dear? You have this look on your face.”Bookmark here

“My son… my newborn son, just opened his eyes.”Bookmark here

I felt myself fly in the air. Panicking, my eyes flung open, looking down at this fox, human thing. This thing was my father, and he just tossed his newborn son in the air with a smile on his face.Bookmark here

“KYUUUU!”Bookmark here

I felt the softness of the female’s arms, or would mother be better? I looked at her, and surprisingly I became calmer like all my worries just washed away. My mother turned out to also be very beautiful with short snow-white hair and light-blue eyes. She did not seem to be from the fox race like my dad, so I’m assuming she’s just a regular human in this world.Bookmark here

I had a lot of time to think while lying in that hospital bed, and I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t think about reincarnation. I just didn’t know it would be that fast or that the transfer would be this seamless. I’m actually in a new world as a fox boy. Bookmark here

I’m, I’m. Bookmark here

I started to cry like how a baby should. Bookmark here

Mom, Sister, I’m sorry for dying and leaving you guys behind. I wanted to be happy for having a second chance, but I couldn’t do anything except cry for the people I left behind. Is this why babies cried when they’re born? Because they remember their past life and those who loved them. Bookmark here

“Oh, did daddy scare you? Don’t worry; I’ll scold him later.”Bookmark here

The waterworks continued until I fell asleep. It seems even in this body, crying still knocks me right out.Bookmark here
