Chapter 3:

Chapter 2

Vanilla Twilight

“You know, I’ve always wondered, why are you always at the same spot, at the same time, every night? And how come it took you so long to realize that I was there?”

“I find that place peaceful, and a place where I can dissociate myself from the outside world. I only started to notice you this past week because I felt like it.”

We stop at a traffic light despite having no cars around at this time. She turns around to me with a sour look on her face.

“You just felt like it?”

“Yeah, I don’t know why. There’s no rhyme or reason behind it, but I simply felt like it. Were you there for longer than a week?”

“Nope, I just found that area while I was strolling alone at the start of this week. The ambiance and atmosphere around it was way too peaceful and quiet to pass up.”

“Ah, then that means I started to notice you around the same time then?”

“Don’t just give me that! That means that you’ve noticed me for the past week and never said anything!”

“W-what was I supposed to do? Talk to a random stranger at this hour?”

“Uhm, duh?!”

I… don’t understand this girl. But something about her seems awfully interesting to me. I just can’t put my finger on what it is just yet.

“No matter!” She pulls on my hand again as the light turns green. “Do you want to try going somewhere?”

“Not really. I have no places in mind. I’ll just follow your lead.” I saw, unbeknownst to me just how much it made her happy.

It was as if I had flipped a switch in her that made her the happiest girl underneath this sky.

“Sweet! Let’s go to the beach then, uhm…”

“Ah, it’s Rikuto Michiyo.”

“That’s quite the handsome name. Mine’s Aya, Araya Aya. It’s a pleasure to meet you!”

Somehow, I feel close to this girl. I don’t know why, nor do I want to know why. I just want to continue this for a little longer. I want to continue this different lifestyle, even if it’s just for a few hours.

“So, Aya, where are you planning to take me?”

“Good question, I have a few places in mind. Quick, pick a number between 1 to 10.”

That’s a weird approach to things, but I guess I should bite for now. She’s an interesting person. Not many people out there nowadays can get my attention as much as she has in mere seconds.

“Ugh, why 4?”

“It’s my favorite number. And you did ask me to pick a number, so I don’t get why you’re complaining.”

“Oh yeah, you have a point. Well, off to 4 we go!”

And just like that, I’m being dragged to a place I probably didn’t even know existed.

I don’t know why, but she seems to like that kind of person. An adventurous, strong-willed person, who looks to stand her ground no matter what. Even if you say no, you’ll find yourself doing exactly what they want without realizing it.

And that’s scary.

Yet here I am, being pulled around by a girl who I’ve only just learned the name, to who knows where.

Who are you, and what is your goal?

Why do you look so lonely?
