Nymphea Vol I: Tale of Two Words
The door opened to the princess’s room and entering in were three women in servant clothing. They creep toward Nafilah who was sound asleep. They leaned over and whispered in Nafilah’s ear.
“Wake up, miss.”
Their whispers resounded in Nafilah’s ear and she woke up. Her eyes grew big at the sight of the three women’s faces. The women giggled simultaneously.
“Time to get up, miss”
The women still standing to the left of bed tried to get Nafilah’s attention again. Meanwhile, the other two snuck over to the other side of the bed. Nafilah pulled the covers over her head and ignored them. She was still tired from staying up all night thinking about her mother. The conversation she and Lucas had in the garden had caused memories of the past to resurface in her mind. The two women that on the right side of the bed reached over her and snatched the covers off the bed then giggled.
Nafilah was becoming aggravated. She continued to lie in the bed and closed her eyes. One of the women sighed then spoke up.
“Miss, please get up. His Highness would sadden to know that you refuse to get ready for his celebration.”
Nafilah sat up in her bed with a confused expression on her face.
One of the women giggled.
“Today is Prince Lucas’s birthday! Have you really forgotten?”
Nafilah moved over to the edge of the bed and women rushed over to help her up. Nafilah grinned with disappointment.
“Well, I’m up now.
“Do you have something planned for me to wear?”
The women looked at each other and smiled. The woman in the middle spoke.
“Yes, yes, we’ll get to that but first you need to wash up.”
The women giggled again together.
Before Nafilah knew it she had taken a bath and shampooed in a matter of minutes. Nafilah took a towel from one of the women that were with her in the bathroom. She wrapped the towel around her body and walked backed to her room.
The women tried to stop Nafilah from leaving. Nafilah grabbed her arm with great force.
“Don’t touch me! I feel exposed and violated! I am able to wash my own body! I am able to shampoo my own hair and I can do everything else just fine! Why don’t…”
Nafilah stopped when she saw the woman crying. She released her arm and looked away. One of the other women came around the corner and put her hand on the other woman’s shoulder.
“Forgive us...We knew this was your first time going to a party since you fell ill so, we thought we would make it special. You always loved getting ready for these types of things…but I guess that’s changed.”
The woman put her head down and bowed politely.
“Your dress will be delivered to your room and we’ll send someone to do your hair.”She lifted her head, called the other woman from the back and three women slowly passed Nafilah as they walked out the door. Nafilah didn’t turn around and stood facing the opposite direction. She felt horrible about what she had done. Her knees began to buckle as she forced herself to stay in the same position. Even though she wanted to apologize, she couldn’t. Nafilah reassured herself that she was not there to make friends. The only thing she needed to worry about was how she was going to get revenge and Lucas’s birthday party was a prime opportunity.
