Nafilah heard shouting coming behind the doors. Nafilah could hear what sounded like the King and Prince Lucas arguing. The two knights step aside as they heard the sound of footsteps moving toward the door. Nafilah thinking they were letting her inside began to reach for the door handle when the door flung open. The prince stormed out the door shouting with sarcasm.Bookmark here

“It was nice to finally see you too after so many years of you chasing the council, your majesty.” Bookmark here

He continued down the hall as if he hadn’t notice Nafilah at all. Nafilah felt the small box in her hand slip. It dropped on the floor in between the doorway. Nafilah stares at the gift contemplating. Either she would run after the upset prince or ignore him and meet with King. Nafilah shook her head, grabbed the box and ran down the hallway. She whispered to herself as caught her breathe.Bookmark here

Nafilah continued running until she spotted the prince on the balcony at the end of the hall. She tiptoed quietly behind him. She stood right next to him looking at the stars. She took a deep breath and ran her hand on the railing.Bookmark here

“You know there is a birthday party going on down the hall.”Bookmark here

“There are so many people here today there is no point in being alone.”Bookmark here

Lucas sighed. He turned and rubbed Nafilah on the head. Instead of showing her he was upset he showed her a fake smile.Bookmark here

“Usually I’m the one trying to cheer you up, man I’m pathetic.”Bookmark here

Nafilah nudged Lucas and held out the small box she received from Maybelle. Lucas took the box and tore the note off the top. He read it to himself quietly.Bookmark here
