Nymphea Vol I: Tale of Two Words
A faint cry carried through the fog. Silvia's eyes focused on a tall figure making its way toward her.
Silvia cried out to the figure in the distance. The figure finally came close enough that Silvia could make it out. She stumbled and two strong hands kept her from falling. She looked up as the fog uncovered the mysterious figure in the dark.
Silvia said in relief. She was so glad that she had been found by someone she knew. Silvia felt Kye’s grip become tighter as he continued to hold her.
Silvia could not see his facial expressions clearly because the fog had covered his face again, though she knew by the long silence that he was not as happy to see her.
“Why are you out here?”
Silvia had no time to respond when shouted again.
“What are you doing out here!”
Silvia looked down at the ground and mumbled under breath.
“I just went out for a walk. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble.”
Kye’s eyes glistened as if he was about to cry. He embraced her tightly with a firm grip. Silvia could feel his body shaking as he held her close.
“I thought something had happened to you…”
The sound of his trembling voice ringed in her. Silvia noticed that he was truly worried and she was glad to know that he had been searching for her. Suddenly, she was overcome with disappointment. She slowly lifted her hands and push Kye away.
“No… you thought something had happened to her again.”
Kye, who was still recovering from his sudden rejection, responded with a confused expression.
Silvia took a deep breath and swallowed hard. This time she spoke clearly.
“You weren’t worried about me, you were worried about her. If I wasn’t in her body than you would have never come for me. I would have still been roaming around this forest lost and scared so don’t make it seem like you were worried about me!”
Kye could see a figure of an animal approaching them from the left corner of his eye. He grabbed Silvia’s wrist and pulled her in the opposite direction.
“Do you think that I would be out here if I wasn’t worried about you?! You went roaming around an area you’re not familiar so, of course, I went looking for you? Now let’s go!”
Silvia snatched her arm away and stopped.
Kye could the animal heading closer to them. He kept his eye on the animal as he motioned Silvia to walk toward him.
“Silvia, come here.”
Silvia shook her head and began to back away from him.
“No… I’ll find my way back even if I have to go alone.”
Kye’s eyes were still following the animal coming up behind Silvia. He didn’t want to scare Silvia nor upset her farther so, he whispered softly.
“Okay, you don’t have to come but stay still and don’t move.”
Silvia ignored him and continued to back up while shaking her head.
She suddenly stopped when she heard the sound of something breathing heavily behind her. Silvia turned around slowly to view a large black cat standing behind her. Silvia looked back at Kye with a panicked expression. Kye tilted his head slightly to the right. Silvia could see the opening in the corner of her right eye. She nodded her head slowly in response then they both took off in the same direction. Their feet pounded against the earth with each step they took. Each stride gradually became longer as they concentrated on escaping the animal following behind them. Silvia could feel her body getting heavy from exhaustion. Kye grabbed Silvia’s hand and pointed toward the cliff ahead of them.
“On the count of three, I want you to jump.”
Silvia’s eyes widened with fear.
Kye squeezed her hand and smiled as to reassure her.
As they made it closer to the edge of the cliff, Silvia slowed her pace. Her heart raced as Kye began to count aloud.
The fear of jumping off the cliff overwhelmed Silvia. She tried to release her hand from Kye’s grip but he refused to let her go. He scooped Silvia in his arms and prepared to jump. Silvia shut her eyes as they leaped into the air.
