Nymphea Vol II: The Rise Of Ill Fates
* This is the end of Volume I. Thank you for reading! I will be introducing the background details at the end of every Volume. I hope you enjoy! *
She came with their King and his men to the banquet that would be held in our village. My father, our former Chief had stumbled upon a portal to their kingdom of Sequestia during one of his journeys. He invited their King to a banquet in the hope to establish a peace treaty between our two worlds. It was the first time our people of Nymphea had ever been exposed to these so-called "humans". Many of Nymphians were fearful of them. Their men were wrapped in several layers of blue and gold. Their stares were black and each handheld long sticks covered in sharp silver. One of the men in the front began to speak.
"... And presenting to you, your Highness's daughter princess Diana of Sequestia."
My eyes immediately fell onto a beautiful woman in glimmering red that sat upon a brutish stallion. Her presence filled my heart with great envy. That envy grew more so when she was assigned to sit next to me at the table. It was the Chief’s idea.
"Why don't you sit by the princess, Marina” he said.
I was a princess too so what made her so special. Though, I noticed that she shined brighter than everyone in the room. On her neck, she wore a gold band that reflected even the slightest bit of moonlight. She noticed me admiring her necklace and she smiled. I excused myself from the banquet childishly in embarrassment. She followed me into the open field.
"Wait!" She yelled out toward me.
"What do you want?" I replied.
"Excuse my behavior. I did not mean to scare you."
She stood in front of me and tied something around my neck.
"What are you doing?"
I looked down at my neck and noticed the gold band that she was wearing earlier.
"I saw you looking at it and I wanted to give it to you." She said as she grinned.
"Why give it to me? I don't even know you."
"Think of it as my sign of peace."
"But I have nothing to give you."
She looked at me with a puzzled expression and then her eyes brightened.
"In return, you will be my friend, Marina."
I lifted my eyebrow and crossed my arms in disagreement.
“Friend? What makes you think I want to be your friend?”
I felt the air dense as the clouds passed over us. She smiled at me but it was different from the smile she had shown me before. It was intense and subtle.
“Although we may not realize it yet…one day we will both share the same dream.”
