Chapter 6:

6. Water

Wings Without Lights

"Crap, I overslept!" Kiki whispered to herself. It was 6:45 AM and she had just woken up. Her parents didn't wake her up. They had gone to work earlier. The class would start at 7:00 AM. There was no way she could get to the school in fifteen minutes by bike, except if she really rushed.

She took a bath, then wore her uniform. There wasn't any time for breakfast. She would eat later in recess time, she thought. Kiki snatched her bag. She got on her bike then quickly pedalled it.

The sky was cloudy. Kiki rode her bike, racing against the gentle wind. She managed to reach half the distance to school. Drops of water landed on her skin. She didn't bring a raincoat, so she hoped she could arrive at school before more rain fell. But things didn't go the way she wanted. The rain got heavier. Kiki had to stop at a nearby café. She parked her bicycle, then took shelter in front of the café.

The long black-haired girl grabbed her smartphone. She received one message. It was from Darza. 'Kiki, where are you? Are you sick?' the message said.

Kiki moved her fingers to type. 'im in the way to school but the rains getting heavier'. She sent the message and typed again afterwards. 'i didnt bring an umbrella or raincoat'.

"Hey, pretty girl. You look familiar," a boy's voice was heard by Kiki. He spoke in a flirty manner. She turned to see the owner of the voice. She could see a tall boy with an ideal body type. His brown, wavy hair got blown by the wind. This was the kind of boy girls usually fall in love with. He would make a great first impression on other girls, but not for Kiki.

"Oh, I remember who you are. You are Kiki from the second year class. Everyone talks about you, you know," the boy said.

"Do … do I know you?" Kiki asked.

The boy seemed a little surprised. He then said with a smile on his face, "You don't know me? I am Banyu, the most popular boy in Rajahamsa High. Ask any girl in the school. All of them pretty much loves me. It's no wonder, of course."
