Chapter 7:

7. Friends

Wings Without Lights

"I have no idea," Kiki said. "Why do the girls love you, though?"

This girl … what was she trying to say? Did she really didn't know that he was a popular guy? Impossible. All girls in the school knew him. She must have tried to put him down.

"O-of course they love me! I'm good looking, athletic … and friendly. Why is that even a question? You're probably lying about not knowing me," Banyu spoke while putting one of his hand on his chin. His voice sounded a little nervous.

"I really have never known you before," Kiki said honestly.

Banyu told himself in his mind to calm down. This couldn't be happening! He was the most attractive guy at school! Every girl in the school should like him. Including this girl. He just had to try harder.

"Okay, Kiki. How about we go inside the café so we can know more about each other? You don't mind having a new friend, right?" Banyu asked Kiki in a friendly tone. "It'll be my treat."

"Sure, why not." Kiki accepted his offer. Both of them entered the café and had their seats. Kiki ordered a sandwich. Banyu ordered a glass of orange juice. It wasn't a big café, but it looked classy. It had the antique feel and decoration.

"Which class are you in, Banyu?" Kiki asked.

"I'm from the 12th grade, 2nd social class," Banyu answered.

"Oh, sorry, I mean … Kak Banyu," Kiki corrected herself.

Banyu chuckled. "You can just call me Banyu. By the way, do you know that everyone talks about you? You're kind of famous too. Or I should say, infamous."

"What did they say about me?" Kiki asked curiously.

"They were talking about how protective you were to this guy called Darza. They said if anyone made a scratch on him you would kill them. Is that true?" Banyu asked. This time he spoke in a more serious tone.

"Yeah. That's true," Kiki replied clearly. "You said I'm infamous. I don't see why protecting someone is bad. If people don't want to get hurt they should leave him alone. The people hurting Darza should be the one that's infamous."

Banyu kept silent for a minute. He then asked, "This Darza guy … is he your boyfriend or something?"

"B-boyfriend? No way! H-He's a ... close friend of mine. We've been friends since kindergarten," Kiki answered with a tense voice. Banyu could saw her blushing. A close 'friend', huh?
