Chapter 9:

Extra 1

Wings Without Lights

It was their first year in senior high school. At that time, the teacher of the last subject left the students with some writing on the whiteboard for them to copy to their notes. There were students who just took the picture of the whiteboard so they could go home immediately. But Darza didn't do that because he would be too lazy to write them at home. So he stayed in the class to write his notes. By the time he finished, all his classmates had already exited the class. Darza put his belongings in his bag. He then noticed something that wasn't his was on his desk. It was Kiki's pencil case. He grabbed it. When he was about to slide it in his bag, he heard the noise of the door being opened.

"Hi Dejan." Kiki entered the classroom. "I think I left my pencil case when I was studying math with you at recess time. Did you-"

"Catch it, my dog!" Darza threw the pencil case to Kiki. Kiki snatched it easily.

"Uh … okay," Kiki spoke in an annoyed tone. She had befriended him for years but then he called her a dog. So that's how it was. Kiki walked away from the class without saying anything.

"Kiki, wait!" Darza ran after her. He caught up with her. Kiki walked beside Darza but she didn't look at him at all. Darza sensed her being upset. "I-I'm sorry. It was a joke."

"Woof," Kiki said without looking at Darza. Both of them kept walking next to each other.

"What?" Darza was puzzled.

"Woof." Kiki's gaze stayed in front of her. Darza suddenly stepped in front of Kiki. He was facing her and blocking her way. Kiki stopped before she almost bumped onto him.

"Good dog." Darza put his hand on Kiki's head. He petted her afterwards.

Kiki felt embarassed. She spontaneously ran away. Her face was blushing intensely. She quickly got on her bike and ride it. On her way home, she wondered why her heart was racing. It felt good when he touched her, she thought. She replayed the scene in her head for the rest of the day.
