Chapter 4:
Fake Love
The doorbell rings. My heart skips a beat. The time has come, the moment I’ve dreaded.
“Liam, it’s me,” comes his angelic voice from outside, the sound I’d usually find so calming but now fills me with dread. “I’m here.”
“I… I’m coming…” I call, making my way to the door.
I stop just in front of it, my hand hovering over the knob. With a deep breath, I finally open the door. Dylan greets me with a big, familiar smile.
“I’ve missed you so much!” he says, hugging me so tightly I can hardly breathe.
“You’re hurting me…” I manage to mutter.
“Sorry,” he apologizes, pulling back just enough to look me in the eyes. “Are you okay?”
I nod without speaking, still avoiding his gaze, afraid he’ll see the truth in my eyes.
“Look at me,” he insists, gently cupping my face in his hand. “I want to see those beautiful blue eyes of yours.”
For a few seconds, we’re silent, his gaze locked onto mine as he searches for answers. Finally, he leans in and kisses me, and I kiss him back with everything I have, terrified it might be the last time.
