Chapter 23:

Chapter 23: The Rising Storm

The Timeline Unravels

The moment the creature emerged from the chasm, Alec and Ken felt the ground shake beneath their feet. The monstrous being, an amalgamation of spikes, jagged metal, and glowing energy, towered over them. Its eyes, filled with a malevolent fire, bore down on Alec like a predator to its prey. It was unlike any beast they had faced before, an unnatural force that seemed to defy all logic.

Alec’s grip tightened on the relic, but he could feel its power slipping from his control, responding to the creature’s energy. It was as if the relic was now fighting for dominance. The relic was powerful, but was it enough? Alec wasn’t sure. They needed more than just brute force to defeat this thing. They needed a plan, and they needed it fast.

"Ken! Stay focused!" Alec shouted, his voice a commanding force amidst the chaos.

Ken, still struggling to regain his footing, quickly snapped back into his stance. "This thing’s too strong, Alec. We need reinforcements—"

Before Ken could finish, a bright flash of light erupted behind them, and the ground beneath their feet shifted. Alec turned in surprise, momentarily stunned as Yursen and the rest of the team materialized through the shifting energy, their figures appearing like shadows against the glowing sky. Ulbert Snow, Ruson, Lina, and a few of their other comrades stood in a defensive formation, their eyes locked on the giant creature.

Yursen, his usually calm and composed demeanor replaced with an intensity Alec had never seen before, nodded toward Alec and Ken. “We’ve got your back,” he said, his voice cool, but carrying an unmistakable edge of urgency.

Alec didn’t waste time. “We need to fight this thing together. We can't do this alone.”

Yursen’s eyes briefly flickered toward the relic in Alec's hand. “We can sense its power. The relic is strong, but it's unstable. We need to stabilize it if we're going to have any chance against this creature.”

Alec shot him a sharp look. "How do we do that?"

Ruson, the team's tactician, stepped forward with an analytical gaze. His long, dark hair swayed with the wind as his hands moved across the air, drawing invisible lines and shapes. "First things first, we need to draw its attention away from you two. The creature seems to focus on you, Alec, because of the relic. If we can distract it long enough, maybe we can find a weak point."

Lina, her bright red hair fluttering in the air, spoke up next, her voice full of confidence. “I can summon a barrier, something to shield you both while you focus on the relic. But we’ll need cover fire while we build it. Otherwise, it won’t last.”

Alec’s mind raced. It wasn’t just about power; they needed strategy. He glanced at Ken, who was still catching his breath. “Ken, stay with Lina. Help her with the barrier. Yursen, Ruson, we’ll need to hit it fast and hard, but carefully. Let’s see if we can get its attention long enough for Lina to finish her work.”

Yursen nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. He turned to Ruson, who was already studying the creature’s movements with sharp precision.

“Right. We’ll need a coordinated strike,” Ruson said, his voice calm but filled with focus. “If we hit it in its weak spots, we can maybe break its armor and take it down.”

Alec steadied his breath, adjusting his grip on the relic. “Let’s go.”

The team split up, each member falling into their designated roles. Alec felt the relic’s energy pulse again, almost as though it were resonating with the team’s collective determination. He could sense that the relic was unstable, but something deep inside him—something primal—urged him to trust it. He wasn’t sure why, but he felt like the relic was more than just a weapon; it was a test, an extension of himself.

As Yursen and Ruson took position, circling around to the creature’s back, Alec and Ken ran toward the creature’s front. The enormous beast loomed over them, its glowing eyes narrowing as it prepared to unleash another devastating attack. Alec could feel its immense power, and for the first time in a long while, doubt crept into his mind. Could they really defeat something this strong?

But as the creature raised its spiked claws to strike, a burst of red energy shot from behind them. Lina had formed a protective barrier, a shimmering wall of energy that deflected the creature’s blow, sending ripples through the air. The creature roared in frustration, its voice deep and guttural.

“Nice shot, Lina!” Ken called out, his eyes lighting up with excitement.

Alec didn’t wait for the creature’s next move. He raised the relic and focused all his energy into it. The relic responded immediately, its energy surging outward in a powerful blast, creating shockwaves that rattled the air.

The creature staggered back, its armored body withstanding the blast, but Alec could see the faint cracks forming along its exterior. It wasn’t invincible. It could be defeated.

Yursen and Ruson seized the opportunity. With a signal from Yursen, Ruson unleashed a barrage of precise strikes, each one aimed at the weak points in the creature’s armor. Ruson’s attacks were swift, calculated, designed to wear the creature down piece by piece. The creature howled in pain, its massive form stumbling as the attacks chipped away at its defenses.

“Keep hitting it!” Yursen shouted, his voice steady even amidst the chaos. “It’s breaking!”

Alec’s heart raced as he kept the relic’s energy focused on the creature. Each time it stumbled, his confidence grew. They could do this—they could defeat it. But it wasn’t just about destroying the creature. The real challenge lay in controlling the relic, keeping it stable while fighting the monstrous being and protecting his team.

Lina, still focused on maintaining the barrier, called out, “I can’t hold this much longer! You need to finish it now!”

Alec’s mind was a whirlwind, but he knew what he had to do. He had to finish this.

“Ken, cover me!” Alec shouted.

Ken nodded, rushing forward to join the fray. Alec took a deep breath, feeling the relic’s energy swell within him, stronger than ever before. He stepped forward, his eyes locked on the creature. It was on the verge of collapsing, but it wasn’t going down without one last fight.

The creature lunged at Alec, its massive claws swiping toward him. But in that moment, Alec reached deep within himself, tapping into the core of the relic’s power. The energy surged, brighter than it had ever been before, and Alec sent a pulse of pure, concentrated force straight into the heart of the creature.

The creature let out a deafening roar as its body convulsed, its armor cracking and shattering under the force of Alec’s attack. In one final, blinding burst, the creature collapsed to the ground, defeated.

Alec stood panting, his body trembling from the effort. The relic’s energy had drained him more than he had anticipated, and he struggled to maintain his balance. He could hear the sounds of the battle subsiding as the remaining tribes hesitated, their warriors uncertain of what to do next.

Ken rushed to Alec’s side, helping him stay on his feet. “We did it,” he said, his voice filled with awe.

Yursen, Ruson, and Lina quickly joined them, their faces weary but victorious. “That was a close one,” Yursen said, his voice steady as ever. “But we made it through. Together.”

Alec nodded, his eyes still on the wreckage of the creature. “Yeah. But this isn’t over. Not by a long shot.”

Ruson glanced around at the remaining tribes. “They’ll think twice before attacking us again. But we need to be ready for whatever comes next.”

The battle wasn’t over. It never truly was. But for now, they had won. And together, they were stronger than ever.
