Chapter 1:

ACT 1: "Children of the Light"

PULSE

It began in a remote village near one of the first documented pocket zones. Farmers tending to their crops witnessed a portal manifest in their fields, a swirling distortion of light and sound. The air vibrated with an unearthly hum, and before anyone could react, the portal emitted a burst of energy. When the light subsided, a baby lay at its center, crying softly.

The child, a boy, was unlike any they had seen. His skin was pale white, and had translucent marks across his hands, almost like veins of light. Local scientists were baffled, and before long, governments swooped in and claimed the boy.

But he wasn't the only one.

In the months following the Corewell incident, similar events were reported near other pocket zones. Babies- seemingly birthed from the energy of the pulse- appeared without explanation. Each bore the same marks and faint energy signatures that mirrored the gravitational pulses.

Dr. Hawthorne, plagued with guilt, took a personal interest in the children. She studied their biology and discovered that their genetic makeup was not human, the results were inconclusive. The marks on their skin suggested a connection with the Earth's core itself. "They're not accidents," Hawthorne had said in a secret meeting with her team. "These children are part of the system we disrupted. The core is trying to... balance itself."

The implications were staggering. Had the core somehow created these beings to stabilize the planet's fractured energy field? Or were they unintended consequences, anomalies born from the chaos?

The children were frankly not universally welcomed. Fear gripped the world as more children began to pop up in other places of the world. Rumors spread of their abilities to create portals, emitting bursts of energy and even healing abilities. Chaos ensued as these children of the light were hunted and sold to black markets. Some were hidden from the government while others were captured by organizations who sought to weaponize their abilities.

As the pulses intensified, portals began appearing more frequently, causing earthquakes that shook cities. Many believed the pulses were tearing the world apart, but Dr. Hawthorne believed differently. "The pulses are not destroying us," she argued. "They're evolving us. These children are the key to stabilizing the energy we unleash. We just need to know more about them and protect them."

The government tried its best to protect the children but as time passed, they were unable to get ahead of the situation. Dr. Hawthorne knew she had to do something if she was going to save the world.
