Chapter 19:

Dark Council

Devil's Curse

The throne room of the Demon Lord was an imposing sight. Shadows danced ominously across the walls, cast by the flickering torchlight. At the center of the room, the Demon Lord sat on a grand throne, his presence commanding and fearsome. His form was massive, with two prominent horns curving from his forehead, a long tail that flicked idly, and two bat-like wings folded against his back. His sharp teeth and claws glinted in the dim light, adding to his menacing appearance.

Gathered before him were the commanders and vice commanders of the four sectors, along with several high-ranking demons. Each commander and their vice commander stood in respectful silence, their demonic forms varied and formidable.

Sector 1:Commander Kaze: A mysterious figure, shrouded in a cloak that concealed his features and powers.Vice-Commander Nobu: Short and stocky, his skin rough like stone, with the ability to control the earth.

Sector 2:Commander Rai: Tall and muscular, with sparks of electricity dancing across his skin. He could manipulate lightning with ease.Vice-Commander Kel: Agile and graceful, with the power to control water, her movements fluid and unpredictable.

Sector 3:Commander Ryo: Slim and swift, his eyes sharp and calculating. He could manipulate wind, making him as elusive as a breeze.Vice-Commander Katsu: Compact and quick, with the ability to create powerful illusions that could deceive even the keenest senses.

Sector 4:Commander Melori: Elegant and poised, flames flickering around her hands. She could control fire, her presence both captivating and deadly.Vice-Commander Denki: Strong and sturdy, with the power to generate and manipulate electricity, his strikes as swift and deadly as a lightning bolt.

Among them stood Rayas, one of the three elders, currently the only one present as the other two were on important missions. Teryos, the left hand of the Demon Lord, towered above the rest. His powers surpassed even the combined might of the sector commanders and vice commanders. He could manipulate shadows and summon creatures from the darkness, making him a terrifying opponent.

The meeting began with discussions of their upcoming attack strategies. Each commander presented their plans, detailing the strengths and weaknesses of their sectors. The atmosphere was tense, the weight of their mission hanging heavily over them.

The Demon Lord listened in silence, his expression unreadable. Finally, he spoke, his voice a deep, resonant growl. "Do not worry. We will not lose." A sinister smile crept across his face. "Because we have her." His words hung in the air, filled with ominous promise.

In a dense, shadowy forest, a group of demons and humans chased after a band of dwarves. The dwarves had been selling weapons to rebellious villagers, a small but defiant act against the Demon Lord’s rule. Among the pursuers was a young woman, her movements swift and precise. She wore samurai armor, her face hidden by a mask.

With a sudden burst of speed, the woman surged ahead, drawing her katana and throwing it with deadly accuracy. The blade struck the dwarf leader, killing him instantly. Panic spread among the remaining dwarves, but they were quickly dispatched by the other pursuers. The woman removed her mask, revealing a stunning face marred by a frown. "Blood disgusts me! It will take away my charm," she muttered in disdain.

Another pursuer, a gruff man, snorted. "Cut the crap and send the report to the Demon Lord, Shion."

Shion, her expression serious, nodded. "Got it." She whistled, and a deadly crow appeared from the shadows. She attached a small scroll to its leg, detailing the mission’s outcome. "Deliver this to the Demon Lord," she instructed the bird.

As the crow flew off, Shion whispered to herself, "Ryuji, I am returning soon." She exhaled, her eyes gleaming with excitement at the thought of reuniting with him.

In a dark, damp room, Ryuji's teammates were chained and beaten, yet still conscious. Yumi, Akira, Takeshi, Hana, and Sora bore the signs of a brutal interrogation. Two high-ranking demons stood guard, their expressions stoic.

Rayas entered the room, his eyes filled with a mixture of pity and amusement. "Poor kids. Losing your life at such a young age is such a waste."

Akira, her face bruised but defiant, managed a smile. "Don’t show your sympathy, old man. Save it for yourself."Rayas slapped her, his hand cracking like a whip. "Arrogance is not tolerated here!"

Sora, his voice filled with emotion, spoke up. "We are samurai working for the Demon Lord! So why are we being held captive? Why do you want to kill Ryuji? Isn’t he our ally?"

Rayas sighed, his patience wearing thin. "That’s none of your concern. You are not old enough to understand the situation this country is in." With that, he turned and left the room, leaving the prisoners to their suffering.

In a secluded forest clearing, Ryuji and Haruto sparred with intensity. Their blades clashed, the sound of metal ringing through the air. After a while, Haruto lowered his weapon, breathing heavily. "Let’s stop here. We need to come up with a plan, and besides, my katana is almost broken."

Ryuji nodded. "Let’s disguise ourselves and go to the market."Haruto raised an eyebrow. "You mean the black market?"Ryuji looked puzzled. "What’s that?""You’ll understand once you see it. Let’s go. I know one in Kafiya," Haruto replied.

Disguised in plain clothes, the two set off for Kafiya, a town in the middle of a desert. The market was bustling with activity, stalls filled with exotic goods and strange wares. As they wandered through the market, they noticed a man selling unique weapons—large hammers, short katanas, and ornate spears.

Curious, they approached the stall, where a dwarf greeted them. "Welcome! What can I do for—" His eyes widened as he noticed Ryuji’s crimson katana. "Hey! I think I’ve seen you somewhere!"

Ryuji and Haruto tensed, ready to flee, but the dwarf leaned in, whispering, "Wanna crush the Demon Lord together?"Ryuji’s eyes widened in shock. "What?!"Haruto stepped forward. "What do you mean?""Come with me," the dwarf urged. "We’ll draw too much attention here."

They followed him to a tent away from the bustling market. Inside, the dwarf introduced himself. "My name is Wilson, and I am a dwarf."Haruto nodded. "We know that. Now tell us what you meant by crushing the Demon Lord together."

Wilson chuckled. "Relax. I’m not your enemy. I could be your ally."Ryuji’s eyes narrowed. "Why do you want to kill the Demon Lord?""We have our reasons," Wilson replied.

"By ‘we,’ you mean the whole dwarf tribe?" Haruto asked."Yes," Wilson confirmed. "So, want to join us? I know you both are powerful and could be a great asset in our war against the Demon Lord. What do you say?"

Haruto glanced at Ryuji, uncertainty in his eyes. "For now, let’s focus on protecting our teammates."Ryuji nodded. "Sorry, we cannot join you."Wilson sighed. "Too bad. I thought you’d join." He tossed a bag to Haruto. "Open it."

Haruto hesitated but then opened the bag, revealing a war axe that glowed with the power of his curse. "But I don’t have enough money for this," he protested.Wilson smiled. "Don’t be silly. It’s a gift. Use it well. Until we meet again, young warrior."

As Ryuji and Haruto made their way back to their hideout, Ryuji remarked, "That dwarf seemed mysterious."Haruto agreed. "They’ve had their share of pain. After all, your father was killed by a demon, right?"

Ryuji stopped in his tracks. "What?! When and how did my father die?"Haruto looked confused. "Wasn’t it you who told me your father was murdered by a demon when we first met?"

Ryuji’s face paled. "My father is dead? When? Didn’t I join the samurai academy to meet Shion?""Who’s Shion? What are you saying? Now I’m getting confused!" Haruto exclaimed.Ryuji’s voice broke as he shouted, "Father!"
