The Lab of Nietzsche

Shion's blood was boiling at the sight of the test subjects who could potentially be clones of her father. A Nazi doctor performing surgery on a massive scale was also enough to get Shion itching for revenge. Chizuru could see Shion's distress and squatted down next to her and rubbed her back. Shion's shoulders relaxed and she began taking deep calming breaths.

Chizuru began speaking to Shion in a calm and quiet whisper, "Are you ok? Are you able to think straight or do you need me to take charge? I'm livid too, but Adam was your father, I'm sure you are hurting far more than I ever could. I have a plan if you are willing to hear me out.”

Shion sighed deeply. With any other person she would have immediately declined. But for once Shion felt she could show weakness and be safe. Shion replied, "I'm not ok. I'm so angry all I can see is red. Take charge, I know you are more than capable. What's the plan?"

"You see that guy doing the surgeries? I'm guessing that's Dr. Kaizen Yamashita. We need to get to him without being seen. The only way I can think of doing that is by taking out the lights and creating a diversion to gather the guards in a central location.  I think it's best if we stay together for this one so we can fight off attacks better if we get spotted."

"That sounds like a decent plan. The only question I have is how do we take out the lights simultaneously so we don't have them sound the alarm before we even get down there? I mean I could break them by throwing something, but I couldn't do that all at once and I'm sure they could pinpoint where I was throwing from in no time."

"They must have a generator somewhere. I can hear some kind of motor running. We should be able to track it down if we just follow where all the cords are going.”

The two scanned the lab for any kind of cords or for the generator itself. Shion traced one of the cords that went off the edge of the cave.

"I think there may be another level under the one we can see here. The cords go off the ledge over there," Shion pointed to the far side of the lab. 

Chizuru was amazed Shion could see so far away in such detail. Modified eyes were really an amazing thing. 

A natural but perilous looking path led down from the perch overlooking the entire cavern where Shion and Chizuru were kneeling. That part of the cave was only dimly lit making it seem even more dangerous with its steep pitch and narrow width. If someone's foot slipped they would definitely be in for quite the fall. 

Shion explained to Chizuru how to set the mask to night mode and visibility instantly improved. The two waited quietly for a few minutes to see if anyone would come looking for the sentries they killed, but no one came. 

They started down the narrow path, carefully choosing where they placed their feet to prevent sliding or knocking down loose debris. The path winded downward to the level of the lab, then continued further down for about ten meters. 

They encountered no guards until they were at the lower level itself. Before they could fire their weapons, Chizuru had already hit them both in the head with her throwing knives. Shion caught the bodies before they hit the ground and threw them over the edge. The drop was so far that the impact could not be heard from where they were standing.

Shion gave Chizuru a goofy, wide-eyed expression which surprised her immensely and she had to choke back a laugh. The soft noise caught the attention of another nearby guard who came to investigate but before he realized what was happening Shion punched a hole in the side of his skull and the guy's limp body fell over the edge as well. 

Inside the lower level, there were several computers that appeared to be running automated programming modules, others with surveillance footage, and one with some kind of log. There were also many different chemicals, including DMT in large storage barrels and some other ones neither girl recognized but had flammable written on them. At the far end of the lower level there were three large generators and loads of cords.

Shion whispered, "Now we just have to get through 20 more guards undetected, piece of cake...I'm kidding. How are we going to get them all in one place quietly though?"

Chizuru responded as she peered around the corner, "Yeah, but seriously, how should we do that?" 

They looked around for something to use when Shion spotted a small boulder on the edge of the path they came down on. She pointed to it. Chizuru shook her head yes.

Small, may have been an under exaggeration, because when Shion picked up the boulder and started carrying it to Chizuru, it appeared to be about twice her size and probably four times her weight. After a silent countdown, Shion tossed the boulder into the center of the area, instantly crushing several computers and even a couple armed men who were unlucky enough to be near the point of impact.  One of the damaged computers caught fire which it began to spread towards the chemicals. The whole security team ran to try and put it out.

Chizuru made a mad dash for the generator while Shion armed with her club began smashing skulls and breaking knees. The benefit of these soldiers with their tongues removed was that they could not, effectively scream for help. Soon, Chizuru had cut the lines in all generators, sending the cave into pitch black darkness. With the help of the dark Shion cut the rest of the soldiers down with little resistance.

With the power out, Chizuru and Shion had to move quickly before the hoards of  armed men began pouring in to check on the generators. Shion caught up to Chizuru who was staring up at the ledge right underneath the upper floor of the lab. Shion saw it too. A small overhang just big enough for the fingers of one hand.

 Shion looked at Chizuru and the two exchanged unsure glances. As footsteps began to echo in the lower level Shion whispered, "Fuck it," and threw Chizuru over her shoulder before jumping up to the small ledge. By her fingertips Shion caught the ledge and tossed Chizuru over to the main level of the lab while she dangled. Chizuru quickly reached her arm down and pulled Shion up. 

Crouching the two made their way towards the surgical suite. The uneasy feeling crept back into the girls' hearts as they passed the tanks.  Adam 235, 237, 238, all the way up to 244. Shion felt sick to her stomach. She didn't know what exact tests were run on the Adams but the aftermath was nauseating. The bodies were taken apart and examined carefully, after whatever tests the scientists ran on them. If they were like the other Adams they encountered,  they were replicas of her father that couldn't control their actions or their own thoughts but instead rampaged while they were alive. A truly miserable existence. 

Both girls had so many questions, what did they seek to accomplish with project Adam, how was it connected to the cult, how were the ouroboros soldiers created, and why was the military not involved at this point? The two were hopeful that Dr. Kaizen Yamashita would have all the answers they needed. 

They continued their crawl past the bobbing flashlights of several panicked guards, who were running towards the lower level to try and help put out the fire below. Once they approached the makeshift surgical suite, Shion slipped past the partition and grabbed a syringe full of white liquid off the counter as the man in sterile garb peered outside the opposite side of the curtain. 

"What the fuck is taking these people so long to get the power back on?" the Dr. Said in an annoyed tone.

 Shion slipped under the operating table. She hesitated momentarily when blood began dripping off the table in front of her. She didn't want to be responsible for the death of an innocent person. Not again, but if they didn't get the Dr. now, they may never get the chance again. Shion let out a silent sigh then stabbed the surgeon in the leg with the needle and slammed down the plunger. 

The man only had time to let out a small gasp as the medicine began to work and Chizuru ran in to catch the doctor.

 "Goodnight Yamashita," Chizuru whispered as she slung the unconscious man over her shoulder. 

The duo ran to the other side of the lab where the entrance to more tunnels was located. They made their way to another area with several locked doors. Shion opened Yamashita's eye, and placed his finger on the sample collection pad and the biolock of the first door whirred opening immediately. With a definitive clunk the door closed and the three of them were alone in a small cramped room. Racks with scalpels, gauze, and medicine lined the small room while other various supplies were stacked in the center of the space. This was the perfect place to begin their interrogation. Chizuru began tying the surgeon's feet and wrist together as Shion prepped to extract answers to all their questions from the surgeon.
