Chapter 16:

Family Reunion

Newton's Empire

I was back at my tall, black tower.  I had decided to take Athena with me for the time being, but I wasn't quite sure what to do with her.  Athena had insisted on holding my hand as we walked down all the steamy alleyways to where I lived.  I carried the metal wing plans in my other hand and had placed the heavy blue plasma inside my jacket pocket.

[You're probably asking yourself how I got my jacket back at this point, but maybe you're really overthinking things here.  I had simply got it back after leaving the Underside of Kepler's Ring with Lead Pipe Larry.  Speaking of Lead Pipe Larry, I wasn't really sure what had happened to him after he had the robots chase him.]

As I got to my door, I noticed that the door to my tower was opened.  I squeezed Athena's hand unintentionally and motioned for her to be quiet.  It was clear that someone had entered my tower.

Athena looked at me with unconcerned eyes.  After that she let go of my hand and ran headfirst into my tower without a fear in the world.

"Wait!  There might be some bad guy in there."  Then it dawned on me the true horror of the situation.  Athena had dispatched heavily armored robots without any effort at all.  Imagining what she could do to a thief who had let themselves into my house made me even more terrified for whoever might be inside at the moment.

I ran inside ready to protect whoever might have been stupide enough to break inside my tower.

There on my table was a plate with a couple slices of pizza.  Those had obviously been left by the people who I hired to clean my place while I wasn't here.  What I wasn't expecting was to see Lady Freud sitting at my table eating one of my delicious slices of pizza.

And what about Athena?  She was bouncing up and down on Lady Freud's lap eating another slice of pizza.  The two of them happily ate all my pizza.  And now there was nothing left for me to eat.

That wasn't the worst of it.  Lady Freud and Athena just grinned ear to ear as they waved to me.  There were not words exchanged in the moments that the pizza still existed.  There was just a deep sadness in my heart.

"Hey, Daddy, who is this lovely woman.  She's the best.  She just let me eat the most delicious food I have ever had."

Lady Freud looked at me and Athena with a look of mischief.  And I knew I was done for at this moment.

"You're daddy, you say?"

"Yes, he's my Daddy.  I love him the best."

"I lay no claim to this child,"  I said.

Lady Freud ignored me.  She rubbed Athena's head.  "She certainly is cute.  She must have gotten all her genes from her mother, though."

"I have never been with a real woman.  I'm a virgin.  There's no chance this child is mine."

Lady Freud continued to ignore me.  "Yes, I think I can be a good step mother to her.  Do you want me to be your step mother.  You can throw flowers when your dad and I get married."

Athena jumped up and down with joy.  "Yes, yes, you make the best food in the world.  And I love flowers so much.  I promise to be the best daughter."

"So, what's your name, child?"

"I'm Athena.  When I grow up, I'm going to be the Goddess of this realm.  Everyone's going to love and worship me.  Oh, I'm also going to rip Newton's head off.  And when I do, everyone's going to cheer and be happy."  Athena blurted that all out without pause.

Lady Freud's eyes and face seemed to freeze as she was taking in this information.

"Yes, that's right," I said.  "And daddy and stepmommy are going to help all your dreams come true.  Isn't that right, dear?"  I smiled, as finally thought I had gotten the better of Lady Freud.

But that wasn't the case.  Lady Freud smiled an evil smile at me.  And I don't know any other words to describe the kind of smile she glanced across to me because I felt my soul stop being inside my body for just a few seconds.

"So, how exactly are we going to do all of this?"  Lady Freud asked.

"Blue Plasma and metal wings.  Go ahead and show them to Mommy."

I smiled back at Athena.  "Actually, I have come up with a much better and less dangerous option.  Follow me to the top of my tower."

Lady Freud stood up and held her hands to her mouth.  "You're finally going to use it."

"Yes, it's time."

"What are you two talking about?" Athena said as she bounced up and down impatiently.  "I want to know what the big secret is too."

"I'm going to use the All Seeing Eye," I said.

Lady Freud's irises became wide at the mention of the forbidden device.  The device that must not be used.  The device that my father had told me over and over to never touch.

[Yes, My Friend.  It is time to explain why my father forbade me to use The All Seeing Eye.  This is quite important as it explains why I have never used it before, as it answers all my problems.  And when you have a Deus Ex Machina device, like The All Seeing Eye, it is mandatory to explain why you haven't used it before.  The All Seeing Eye let you see anyone or anything you wanted to see.  No walls or security could prevent the gaze of this power eye.  All knowledge and secrets could be at your disposal.  You could also use the eye to look into the past or the future.  It was possible to use the eye to alter events you didn't like.  In sum, The All Seeing Eye was probably the most dangerous thing to ever exist.]

The All Seeing Eye and my grandfather - A device created by my grandfather when he was very young.  He didn't use the device for knowledge or power.  That's what most scientists would have used such a device for.  No, he used the device to look at girls.  That's right; he used the eye to primarily look at naked women.  For a long time, nobody had ever expected what my grandfather was up to....  But one day he became obsessed a noble woman who was having an affair with her husband.  My grandfather had tried to use his knowledge to blackmail the woman.  But in the process he had also revealed how he had obtained the information.  The news spread throughout the community and left a dark mark on my family name for years to come.  My father had to live through part of that shame.  And the bad part was that my grandfather never stopped using The All Seeing Eye to do what he had been doing before.  One day my grandfather had died from falling from the top of the tower.  News outlets reported that he had died while looking at women while using The All Seeing Eye.  And I'm not sure of the truth of that.  My own thoughts were that my father had pushed my grandfather off the tower out of anger.  After my grandfather was dead, my father had told me to never touch the device for any reason.  And by the time my father had his accident, most people had moved on from my grandfather's scandal.  I never had to grow up with the kind of shame my father had.

Despite all that had happened.  It was finally time to go to the top of my tower and turn on The All Seeing Eye.

[Get your save points ready My Friend, you're in for one hell of a ride.]
