Chapter 3:
mission outcome: unclear_
Going to the ministry was just as easy as he expected. Fuyuki almost didn’t even have to lift a finger and the vehicle just drove itself to the desired destination without a glitch, using the fastest and thus shortest route available. It was of course no surprise for him. This was just one of the many technologies known to and used by everyone around the world. But still, it just had a different feeling to it when experiencing it in Hualong. Here, everything goes so smoothly that one almost forgets that there are people behind every invention, who realized their dreams and made those possible.
For example, the car he is driving now is a hybrid, capable of transporting its passengers on the road like a usual car or it can even fly. Of course, flying is not always recommended and mostly done by people traveling long distances. Short routes like going from one street to the next should be done via land routes but it’s still almost just as fast as flying. The temperature in the car is fixed since the built-in system changes in accordance with the temperature outside to provide the best possible traveling experience to the passengers.
And Fuyuki was content. He looked at the time on his wristband, then unfastened his seatbelt, ready to get out. The system opened the door the second it detected Fuyuki’s desire to step out of the car but he didn’t have a chance to even lift his leg as he was too stunned to do so.
Suddenly, a small, pink ball jumped into the car and landed right before him. He reached down and grabbed the ball, wondering to whom it might belong but he didn’t have to wait for too long as a girl of about seven years old jumped into his car and reached out with her small hand towards the ball.
Fuyuki wasn’t in that much of a hurry. He left the hotel early, thus arriving a bit early since he hated being late. He had enough time to patiently smile at the little girl, kneel on the floor, grab the ball, and hand it to her with a smile on his face. But Fuyuki didn’t expect that all his efforts would be futile in the end.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye. He just stretched out his arm with the ball in his hand, still kneeling on the floor inside the car, while the girl stepped into the car to get her ball back, when a hand quickly reached out behind her. The person grabbed the girl so fast, that the ball slipped out of her hand and rolled out of the car but the man didn’t care about it. He just grabbed the poor girl, shoved her behind him, and ordered her in a low voice to get back inside his car. Possibly, to the car she came with. The girl seemed frightened but did as she was told.
“What the...,” said Fuyuki, and was about to get up when a hand suddenly grabbed his head and shoved it down on the floor. Fuyuki instinctively held up his hands in a sign of surrender to show the other person that he is unarmed but that person didn’t seem to care.
“What do you want?” his voice was frightening, no wonder the girl didn’t even think about running back to the car and leaving her ball behind.
“Well, certainly not kidnapping your precious daughter,” Fuyuki said sarcastically while thinking to himself that he better not forget to wash his face after this. As clean as these cars are, there are still people stepping on that very floor he is now lying on face down. “Who would dare do something like this here?” he said in a tone as if speaking to a moron, after which he felt the hand releasing his head slowly. The moment the hand was taken away, he propped himself up and started dusting his suit off. So much for looking his best on the first day, he thought. “Are you an idiot?” he asked casually, wiping the dust off his sleeves, and stood up to get out of the car.
“I thought...,” the stranger said slowly and his eyes followed Fuyuki’s every move while getting out of the car.
“You thought wrong,” he remarked, and the moment Fuyuki said this, he looked up at the person standing before him. And then he realized.
In Hualong, not many people could wear that uniform and definitely not many had such a rank at that young age. That meant he was part of THE family, a group of elite people at the top of the world. And if he has that rank...
Of course, Fuyuki knew. He had to familiarize himself with every country’s delegate and every high profile person including those representing Hualong during the summit. So he knew that the person before him was Feng Liwei, the only son of Feng Yiheng, who was rumored to succeed his father as the next unofficial world leader. A feat not many can achieve by the age of thirty. Well, one has to be born in the right place.
Oh, so that’s why he is so confident. He thinks the whole world revolves around him. He might be taller and more intimidating but that’s just part of being a soldier.
Fuyuki stepped away from the car which automatically closed its doors and went on standby mode.
“So, you came to the meeting?” Feng Liwei asked curiously watching Fuyuki as he was about to leave.
“Obviously since you haven’t seen me here before, have you?” Fuyuki replied more reservedly after realizing the other person’s identity but still couldn’t help mocking him a little. “But that doesn’t matter. Anyone can make a mistake,” he said benevolently. “But Major... Your parents didn’t teach you to apologize when you’re in the wrong?” he said almost provocatively. He didn’t even wait for the other person to move and stepped into the elevator to go upstairs.
Feng Liwei just stood there in silence watching Fuyuki sneer at him as the door to the elevator closed. He didn’t move to stop him from leaving but he was furious. It was almost as if that unknown person was implying that he felt so entitled as a person born into a privileged family that he didn’t even have to do such mundane things as saying sorry. But in fact, that person didn’t even give him time to do so. Was he running away? Feng Liwei didn’t think so. He seemed too arrogant for that. But he did recognize him that’s for sure. He saw the way that person looked at his face and his uniform. He definitely knew who he was. There’s no mistake about that. Then why did he dare behave like that? Is he insane? Or does he have someone with a higher authority backing him? No, that can’t be. If there was he would probably know. Although, it wouldn’t hurt to look into it.
He made sure that his niece was safe and sound in the car and on her way back home and only then did he walk up to the elevator to go upstairs. He didn’t know what that person was up to but whatever it might be, he won’t make his job easy. He didn’t come this far only for someone to mess up his plans.
