Chapter 8:

You sound like my father

Tekuno nervously adjusts his makeshift disguise, a blanket draped over his head like a shroud. He taps a few keys on his laptop, establishing a secure connection through a net line he hacked himself. "Aiko, pick up," he mutters anxiously.

The screen flickers to life, and Aiko's face appears. She looks around nervously. "Tekuno, is this safe? What if we get caught?"

"Relax, Aiko. This line is secure. No one will know," Tekuno assures her, trying to sound confident despite his racing heart. "But seriously, what the fridge are you doing there for so long?! Don't tell me you have found your human prince and don't want to come back now..."

Aiko sighs, a small smile playing on her lips. "Tekuno, how can you guess it right all the time?"

Tekuno's eyes widen in shock. "What??? Who is this? Where does he come from? Did he molest you, is he cute, does he look good?" His questions spill out in a panicked rush.

Aiko laughs. "Hahaha, you sound like my father," she replies, shaking her head. "Speaking of him, how's the situation?"

"How the situation is? You really want to know? It's terrible!" Tekuno exclaims.

"What? He discovered I'm in the human district?" Aiko asks, her eyes widening.

"Nooo, he still believes I'm you," Tekuno groans.

"So what's the matter?" she replies, clearly confused.

"What's the matter? What's the matter? You're serious, Aiko? I'm wearing a blanket over my head for over three days and acting like you, just to know you're having the time of your life with Mister Stranger!" Tekuno's voice rises with frustration. "And don't change the topic, who's that guy?"

Aiko sighs. "His name is Kaito. We met in a grocery store in Shibuya."

Before Aiko can respond further, there's a knock on her door. "Tekuno, I have to leave you now. You're doing great, I can't thank you enough for that. Talk to you later," she says hurriedly and cuts off the call.

"What?? Aiko, Aikooooo?" Tekuno stares at the blank screen, his heart sinking. "She hung up on me, just like this? I never felt this way before... It hurts but I also feel anger and... Jealousy?" he asks himself, bewildered by the mix of emotions.

Another knock on his door interrupts his thoughts. "Aiko, come downstairs, dinner's ready," Aiko's father calls.

Tekuno decides to play along for one last dinner. As he sits at the table, Aiko's father serves dinner with a smile. "You need to eat well to get better, Aiko," he says warmly.

Tekuno forces a smile under the blanket. "Thanks, Dad," he replies, feeling a strange mix of guilt and affection for the old man. Despite the odd circumstances, Tekuno has grown fond of Aiko's father.

They eat in relative silence, with Aiko's father occasionally making small talk. Tekuno listens, feeling a pang of regret. "This has been the weirdest time ever, but somehow I've enjoyed your company," he thinks to himself.

The next morning, Tekuno quietly leaves a note on Aiko's pillow: "Don't worry, Dad. I'm visiting a doctor. I'll be right back!"

As he sneaks out of the house, he looks back at the familiar building, feeling a surprising wave of sentimentality. "I'll miss this place and the old man," he thinks, a little surprised by his own feelings.

Tekuno makes his way through the streets towards the human district. He keeps his head low, avoiding eye contact with anyone who might recognize him. "I have to find her," he thinks, his mind racing with worry and determination.

As he approaches the bus stop, Tekuno's nerves begin to spike. "What if I get caught? What if Aiko's in trouble?" he wonders. But he pushes those thoughts aside. "No turning back now."

Tekuno boards the bus, finding a seat near the back. The bus is crowded, and he tries to blend in. Suddenly, a drunk passenger stumbles down the aisle and collapses into the seat next to him.

"Hey, buddy," the drunk man slurs, leaning heavily on Tekuno. "You look like... like someone I know."

Tekuno cringes, trying to inch away. "Uh, I think you have the wrong person," he says, hoping the man will leave him alone.

But the drunk man doesn't budge. Instead, he starts to sway, and before Tekuno can react, the man throws up all over the floor.

Tekuno's eyes widen in horror. "Oh no, this is not happening," he thinks, trying to avoid the mess. The other passengers groan and move away, leaving Tekuno trapped with the drunk man.

"Sorry 'bout that," the man mumbles, wiping his mouth with his sleeve. "Rough night."

Tekuno forces a smile. "It's... fine," he says, praying for the bus ride to end soon.

Finally, the bus reaches Shibuya, and Tekuno practically leaps out of his seat, eager to escape the chaos. He makes his way to the grocery store, his heart pounding with anticipation.

Tekuno peers through the window, searching for any sign of Aiko. To his surprise, the store is empty. "Where is she?" he wonders, feeling a wave of panic.

As he walks around the store, he spots a blonde girl standing by a fountain. "That must be her," he thinks, his heart racing with hope.

Tekuno approaches the girl cautiously. "Aiko?" he calls out.

The girl turns around, and Tekuno's face falls. It's not Aiko, just a stranger who looks vaguely similar. "Sorry, I thought you were someone else," he mutters, embarrassed.

Feeling a mixture of relief and disappointment, Tekuno decides to keep searching. "I won't give up until I find her," he thinks, determined to bring Aiko back home.
