Chapter 0:
BIRTHMARK
A bright, sunny day. The gentle rays of sunlight pierce through a window, illuminating a humble but cozy room. The soft sound of a baby crying fills the air, followed by the voice of a joyful mother.
Maki Tenshiro: smiling as she cradles the newborn "It’s a boy, my love."
Shinzo Tenshiro, standing next to her, looks down at his newborn son, his heart swelling with pride. He smiles, a rare moment of tenderness breaking through his usual stoic demeanor. He laughs softly, overwhelmed with emotion.
Shinzo Tenshiro: bursting with laughter "A son... a warrior like no other."
Maki Tenshiro: gently rocking the baby, curious "What do we name him?"
Shinzo Tenshiro: his smile widening "He will be a great warrior, with the will and determination that will surpass all. His name is... Kaito." pauses, as if envisioning the future "Kaito Tenshiro. He will soar like the sea, unbound and unstoppable."
Shinzo and Maki gazing lovingly at their son to another part of the city, far from the warmth and hope of their home.
Now shifting to the slums, In a dark alley, a baby cries in the dirt, abandoned in the shadows of the world. His small form writhes, helpless and alone. The air is thick with the scent of decay, the world indifferent to his suffering.
The cries echo through the empty streets, but soon, the sound of footsteps approaches. An old bartender, grizzled and weathered by life, steps into view. He kneels down beside the crying child, his heart softening despite the hardness of his exterior. The bartender gently scoops the child into his arms, cradling him protectively. He examines the mark on the baby’s arm, confused but curious.
Kaiser Kurogane: softly, to himself "A cruel world we live in. A baby born blind... abandoned... and with this strange mark. What is it that fate has chosen for you, little one?"
Kaiser Kurogane stands up, cradling the child close to his chest. He takes one last glance at the mark, shaking his head in sorrow and wonder.
Kaiser Kurogane: with a sigh, looking down at the baby’s face "I’ll give you a name... one that will bring hope in the darkest of times. You’ll rise above this, just like the sun rises after the longest night. You’ll soar higher than any of us."
He gently whispers the name to the child.
Kaiser Kurogane: "Haruto. Haruto Kurogane. The sun will rise for you, and you will forge your own strength."
Kaiser Kurogane, who looks down at the child with a quiet, hopeful expression. Despite the hardships ahead, there is a flicker of belief in his eyes—belief that this child, abandoned in the shadows, will one day become a force to be reckoned with.
A sunny afternoon. The streets are bustling with activity as Kaito Tenshiro, now 12 years old, walks home from school. His backpack slouches over his shoulder, and his brows furrow in frustration as he mumbles to himself.
Kaito (internal monologue):
“Man, I really bombed that test... Mom’s gonna freak. Why is math even a thing?”
Kaito kicks a pebble, sighing as he walks along a shaded path. Suddenly, he hears a distant voice calling his name.
Gama (shouting):
“Kaito! Hey! Kaito!”
Kaito stops and turns around, spotting his best friend, Gama, running toward him, waving enthusiastically.
Kaito (smiling awkwardly):
“Oh, hey, Gama!”
Gama (panting as he catches up):
“Man, I can’t believe you left me behind! I’ve been yelling your name for like five minutes!”
Kaito (laughs nervously):
“Sorry about that... I was just, uh, thinking about the test.”
Gama (groaning):
“Oh, don’t remind me! That was brutal. How’d you do?”
Kaito (shrugs, grinning sheepishly):
“Terrible. My mom’s gonna kill me.”
Gama (laughing):
“Hahaha! Yeah, same here, buddy. Looks like we’re both in for it tonight.”
A loud honk interrupts their conversation. Both boys turn to see a sleek black car parked by the curb. A man in a suit waves at Gama.
Gama (grinning):
“That’s my ride. You want us to drop you off?”
Kaito (waving his hand):
“Nah, I’m good. I like walking. Thanks, though!”
Gama (shrugging):
“Alright, suit yourself! See you tomorrow!”
Gama jogs to the car and climbs in, waving at Kaito as it speeds away. Kaito adjusts his bag and continues walking. The street grows quieter as he approaches his neighborhood.
Suddenly, he pauses, a strange sensation washing over him. His arm tingles faintly, and he scratches at the spot without thinking. For a moment, he swears he hears a faint hum in the air. Shaking his head, he dismisses it and keeps walking.
Kaito (to himself):
“Man, I really need to stop overthinking. It’s probably just stress.”
Kaito’s retreating figure as shadows stretch across the street, subtly hinting at an unseen presence watching him.
