Yasu's past

A little Yasu was sitting on the legs of his dad, he was listening to his story. He was well covered, a black jacket, blue pants, and a red long shirt.

Yasu’s dad was a short man, a bit shorter than nowadays Yasu, but he was strong, he was well-built, with short hair and a big beard, wearing comfy clothes, bottom pajamas and a long white t—shirt.

—And that’s what the sea is, son.

—So that’s the world before, right, dad?

—Yes, Yasu.

—Were you able to see it?

—No haha, it’s been a long time since we lived in the fortress, nobody has seen that much vegetation nowadays.

—But you are in the attacker's force, dad, don’t you see it outside?

—Ah…

Yasu’s dad let out a sigh and smile and his son, he patted Yasu’s head and made him get down of his knee.

—Maybe one day you will find it out, and hopefully you will see the sea, forest, mountains and even a camp of flowers.

—Enough with that, come on, dear, dinner is ready.

Yasu’s mom's voice reached the salon and father and son looked at each other laughing while they said “Yes mam!”

When they arrived at the dinner table, the food was already served, a nice mushroom cream, bread and for the last plate, a pot with some hamburgers.

—Wow, where did you get that, honey?

Yasu’s dad kissed Yasu’s mom while holding her by her wrist. Yasu’s mom was shorter than his husband, she had a slim body, a ponytail and an apron on top of his sweater and pants.

—It’s an old recipe, remember the book we found? This food was made before those events.

—Seems good, let me taste it—

Yasu’s mom slapped his husband's hand and looked at him seriously.

—Eat the cream first.

—Yes mam…

Yasu was laughing a lot while both parents looked at him smiling, they had a nice dinner and Yasu was on the couch, looking at the TV, his mother approached him and hugged him.

—Do you want another story from the other side, son?

—Mmmh, in a minute mom, I want to finish the show…

—You will fall asleep, come on, yes?

—Alright…

Yasu sighed a bit and went to his room, his mother was smiling while holding a book and when Yasu had his blankets on top of him, his mother touched his chest and then his forehead, she opened the book and started reading.

It was an odd story about a kid who went on adventures, way older than Yasu at that moment, he could control the elements and had a lot of struggles making friends who didn’t search him for his power.

—And then, the kid realized that his friend was really on… uhm… oh, was really telling the truth.

Yasu’s mom was struggling a bit reading the book, she then looked at Yasu’s face, sleepy, weak, she kissed his son on the cheek and turned off the lights before closing the door.

—Good night, son.

Yasu’s mom went to his room, going to bed and leaving the book on the shelf that she had on a side.

—Did he fall asleep? —Yasu’s dad asked.

—Yes, I was getting invested in the story too, maybe tomorrow I will read the rest.

—Tomorrow, huh?...

—Are you worried?

—A bit, we barely reached the outpost that was left behind, a ton of those creatures are dangerous, we lost five members yesterday, honey…

Yasu’s mom hugged her husband by the arm and rested her head on his arm.

—It’s never easy, but you should be aware that I will protect you, no matter the cost.

—What? Did we change papers today?

—I’m being serious here.

Yasu’s dad was laughing, but after her wife said that, she held her tight, kissing her on the check, it was as if we were about to break.

—I will never let anything hurt you as long as I’m alive.

—I know…

And so the night passed, in the morning, Yasu woke up scratching his abdomen and going to the living room.

—Moooom! Daaad! Are you here?!

Yasu went searching his parents everywhere in the house with a sleepy face, he then returned to the living room and saw a note on the table that said:

“Yasu, we need to go to another excursion, I know it’s been a while since we both had been in the house, sometimes we feel we don’t deserve to have such a good kid that waits for us and don’t say anything and it’s just happy to have us when we can, we promise you this wil be the last one, we found something important for the community, after that we will ask for extra time to be with you. Kisses. Dad and Mom.”

—So they went on another excursion…

Yasu sighed and sat on the sofa.

—I didn’t want to clean up today…

The first thing that Yasu did that morning was ate the leftovers from yesterday's dinner, after that, he took a broom, a bucket, a mop, a duster and a dustpan, wearing a silk face mask, gloves and a hat. He started with the duster, cleaning all the rooms, and then passing the broom across the entire floor, he put the dust on a dustpan and threw it in the garbage.

It went for almost an hour doing that. The clock said 9:00 AM, Yasu sat down on the sofa for a bit and caught some breath while he was watching television. He took off the mask and gloves to eat a sandwich made of jelly and about thirty minutes passed, he then took the bucket and filled it with, about less than a half, water. He made sure to use the correct cleaning products.

He put the mop on the side of the bucket and squeezed it out to make sure the mop wasn’t full of water, he then started to mop the floor and at 10:30am, he was laying on the sofa drinking some water while watching television.

After that he threw the water and started to clean the dishes, he ended up cleaning the entire house, but ended exhausted, he threw himself on the sofa and fall asleep while watching television.

When he woke up, he saw the clock. 3:00PM. He then started to do simple meals, eggs, meat, and a bit of leftovers, mushrooms cream and bread.

He ate, and spend the rest of his day watching television, he was changing from channel to channel when a news report caught his attention, the note said:

“Attackers squad had been injured and a lot being report as dead, a total of only five people survive”

The eyes of Yasu opened wide open and he held his shirt on the part where his chest was, he felt the urge to cry but he held his tears and clapped his cheeks with his palms, and smiled.

“I’m sure they are fine, mom and dad, they are the thoughtless people I know, they sure are ok… I’m sure of it…”

Yasu was moving his legs, he couldn’t get himself calm, he then stood up and looked at the kitchen.

—I know, I’m going to prepare something delicious! That way I will receive mom and dad.

Yasu went to the bookshelf and with a chair he got himself up to reach the book of recipes, he searched for something simple, a recipe of vegetables with rice, he followed the instructions carefully.

He used a lot of dishes and he made food. Finally, when he tasted, the food lacked flavor, he put a bit of salt at the side and it tasted better.

—I forgot to use it…

Yasu lay down on the sofa and turned from time to time, he tried to sleep but he couldn't. He only had his eyes closed until someone knocked at the door.

Yasu didn’t think about it, that his mother and father would just open the door, but in the act of fooling himself he opened the door

—MOM! DAD!

The smile on Yasu's face faded when he saw two men of the IFED outside. They were surprised when they saw Yasu and they didn’t know what to say.

Yasu feared what he was about to hear, and he only looked down.

—I’m sorry, Kid, but unfortunately, your parents, they… they die on the expedition, we are here to give you this, they recover the bodies and they want you to give you their ashes.

—Sorry for your loss, kid.

The two men went out after leaving the bags with the things of Yasu’s parents and the ashes on the table. Yasu was still processing what happened, and when the men closed the door and left, he saw the two recipients containing the ashes of their parents.

He fell on his knees, and started crying, hitting the floor with his soft hands, cutting her own screams while the floor was getting wet from the tears, sweat and saliva.
