Chapter 1:
Eclipse Protocol: The Last Light
The sky above Earth, once a brilliant blue canvas, was now an unsettling shade of burnt orange. The sun, a massive golden sphere, burned brighter than it had ever been, its light casting an unnatural glow over the world. But that would be the last time the world would witness the sun's brilliance.
Kira stood on the observation deck of the SkyTower, one of the last remaining landmarks of the old world. The wind whipped through her hair as she gazed at the horizon. It had been almost a decade since the Eclipse, the catastrophic event that had torn the fabric of the world asunder. The day the sun had exploded, sending out a massive shockwave of energy, knocking out power grids and plunging the planet into an eternal darkness.
From that moment on, the world had never been the same.
The Earth was now permanently shrouded in a dim twilight, the sun's rays no longer able to penetrate the thick layers of ash and dust that covered the atmosphere. No one knew the exact cause of the solar explosion, but its effects were undeniable. Humanity had been forced to adapt to this new reality, relying on artificial suns—massive solar simulators that now provided the planet's only source of light. But even those were only temporary solutions, struggling to provide enough warmth to keep the planet alive.
Kira was an engineer. A young, ambitious woman with dreams of uncovering the secrets of the Eclipse. She had spent years studying the phenomenon, trying to understand why it had happened and what role her father had played in it. Father... she thought, a lump rising in her throat. She had lost him in the chaos that followed the Eclipse, one of the many casualties in the scramble to survive.
A quiet beep interrupted her thoughts. Kira pulled a small, holographic screen from her jacket, the light from the device casting a pale glow on her face. The message was short, but it made her heart race.
“We have found it. The Titan Engine is real.”
She had heard the rumors. Whispers in the dark corners of the world, stories passed between rebels and government officials alike. The Titan Engine was said to be the key to reversing the Eclipse, to restoring light to the Earth. But there was more to it than that. The stories claimed that whoever controlled the Titan Engine would have the power to rewrite history itself—to reshape the world in their image.
Kira’s fingers hovered over the screen as she considered her next move. She had to find out more. She couldn’t ignore the possibility that her father had been involved in the project, that he had known about the Titan Engine before his death. What if the weapon could save humanity? Or was it a tool for destruction?
"Kira?" A voice broke through her thoughts, and she turned to see Taro, her closest friend, walking towards her. He was a former military pilot, now working as a freelance investigator. His expression was serious, his eyes scanning the horizon as he approached.
"What’s wrong?" he asked, concern evident in his voice.
"It's... it's the Titan Engine," Kira said, still staring at the message. "It exists. And I think it might be the key to everything—the Eclipse, the future, maybe even my father’s death."
Taro’s eyes darkened. "The Titan Engine… that's dangerous. You know that, right? Whoever controls it could have the power to destroy the world, not save it."
"I don’t know," Kira said softly, feeling the weight of the decision ahead of her. "But we have to find it. The answers are out there, Taro. And I won’t stop until I uncover them."
Taro took a step closer, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Then I’m with you. Whatever happens, we’ll face it together."
Kira nodded, her resolve solidifying. This was no longer just about her father's legacy. It was about the future of the world—and possibly the fate of every living being on Earth.
With the message still glowing in her hands, Kira turned and walked toward the elevator that would take her down to the heart of the city. The journey ahead would not be easy, and she knew the dangers would only increase as they got closer to the truth. But she was ready. Ready to uncover the secrets of the Eclipse. Ready to confront the power that lay beneath the surface.
As the elevator doors slid shut, Kira took one last look out at the fading light of the dying sun. The world may have been plunged into darkness, but for Kira, this was only the beginning.
