Chapter 3:
Why'd I Have to Fall in Love with My Sister's Bestfriend?
Risa's head was spinning as her heart raced. How did Senpai know her name? Why did it seem like she was flirting? She felt the blood rush to her face and blood began to pour out of her nose.
The school nurse, Mrs. Takeda, instructed her bot assistant to gather a set of vitals on Risa. Nursing and other jobs in the medical field that required complex analysis of human interactions were still predominantly human. Instead, Bots were created to replace aides and support people who did data collection of things such as vitals or measuring urine output. Things with easily interpretable values as well were left up to the bots.
“High heart rate and temperature detected in the patient Takeda-san. Should we start antibiotics or fluids?”
“Maybe, the scratches are pretty deep and dirty. Bottman get some antiseptic,” Takeda commanded before beginning to clean the wound.
Risa yelped in pain. “That stuff really burns.”
Nurse Takeda replied “Maybe that'll teach you to stop doing stupid shit, Amane Risa. Your sister tells me you're as reckless as ever. You even had your senpai worried sick.”
Risa stared blankly at the nurse, processing what she just heard. After an awkward pause, “Senpai was worried about me?”
“Yeah, why did you think she was in here? She was going to get you if you hadn’t shown up. Bottman, toss that handkerchief, it’s covered in blood.”
“No wait, don't. Give it back. I wanna take it home and try to wash it,” Risa put out her hand.
The nurse rolled her eyes, “Kids. A bunch of weirdos nowadays. Give her the hanky but put it In a specimen bag at least.”
Nurse Takeda wrapped Risa's ankle in sterile gauze and an ace wrap and handed her a tube of antibacterial ointment. “Apply this two times a day to keep it from getting infected. If you have increased pain, redness, swelling, or develop a fever go see your doctor. And Amane-san, don't do anything stupid.”
Risa gave a goofy smile before grabbing the bag from Bottman and headed back to class. She was on cloud nine. Almost skipping down the hall despite her painful injuries. Senpai knew her name!
When Risa got back to the class people were still doing introductions. Noriko was laying with her face flat against the desk, red and sweaty, with dried tear marks on her cheeks. She must have already gone. Risa made her way to the only open desk which was in the front corner of the classroom.
Right as she sat in her chair her teacher in an over exaggerated announcer voice, “Here enters the last student. Stand up and introduce yourself!”
Risa slowly stood up and in an annoyed and monotone voice, “Hello, Amane Risa, 156cm, 56kg, c-cup, B-blood type, my gamer tag is hentaiyurigirllover10, I'm single. Also I do not want to be your friend so don't bother unless you game. If you do, I’ll add you on Suny. Good enough for you teach?” She took a bow, then sat down loudly in her chair. The teacher let out an awkward laugh at Risa's dating profile introduction.
The lecture continued about god knows what, Risa did not listen nor care because she was out cold fantasizing about all the ways she would get Senpai into her bed. The ringing of the lunch bell woke Risa up instantly. She rose from her seat, suddenly nauseous. She hunched over, grabbed her stomach, and ran to the toilets.
Within seconds she received a message from Noriko, “Risa are you ok? You ran out awfully fast. Do you need help?”
Risa dry-heaved a couple times, but nothing came out. Then replied to her friend, “I'm not feeling so hot. Can you bring me my bag? I'm going to go home. Let my sister know after I’ve already left would ya? You know how she is.”
A few minutes later Risa heard the familiar stomping of Noriko’s feet and a soft knock on the stall door. That was so her, gentle and quiet in every way. What a cutie and a sweetheart. If only Noriko had been into Risa she would have made the perfect girlfriend. At the same time, Risa felt if she made a move, Noriko would be pressured into something she didn't want. That would make Risa feel like she was taking advantage of her friend, so no. Not gonna happen. Too bad.
Noriko's brown hair had become disheveled and she was panting as she opened the bathroom stall. She handed Risa her bag before sitting on the floor next to her. Noriko looked closely at Risa’s face then without warning pressed their foreheads together.
She spoke close to Risa’s face, “Risa-chan you’re burning up. Are you sure you don’t want me to go get your sister so she can get you home? You really don’t look good.”
Risa turned to face Noriko, their lips only inches apart. For just a second, it seemed almost as if Noriko wanted to be kissed, but instead they both just sat there in silence as both their faces began to redden. Noriko closed her eyes and leaned into Risa, and for just a second, she forgot about being nervous and didn’t shake at all. Right as their lips were about to touch the door to the bathroom slammed and Risa flung herself back.
Risa shot up and grabbed her bag, then nervously scratched her head. “Sorry Noriko got caught up in the moment. Don’t know where my head's at,” she chuckled nervously, “Must be the fever. Anyways, thanks for bringing my junk. I’ll message you once I get home safe. Bye Nori-chan.”
Before Noriko could even get off the floor Risa was gone. More than ever, Noriko was sure that Risa had some of the same feelings she had. Fired up, Noriko raised a determined fist to herself and shook her head. That was it. She was definitely going to have to tell Risa how she felt soon.
Risa was walking fast down the halls towards the exit. Since it was lunch time, students were hanging out all around campus. It was super easy for her to sneak off campus unseen. When she was about a block away from the school, Risa put her hoodie on and sunglasses, fired up her hoverboard, and hauled ass as even faster than she had to get to school. She really wasn’t feeling good and just needed to lay down. Plus she was as confused as she had ever been. She thought to herself, “Did Noriko and I almost kiss? Just wtf, first I met Senpai and now cute, shy Noriko and I almost kissed. This is way too much yuri action for one day. My luck for the entire year is gonna run dry on just my first day back to school.”
As she pulled up to her house, Risa started feeling nauseous again and this time she actually threw up. She hopped off her hoverboard and opened the front door, but before she could finish taking off her shoes the world started spinning. Risa nearly hit the floor before Saya caught her. The world went black.
Meanwhile at school Noriko messaged Risa’s sister, Reika. “Hi there Reika-san, I just wanted to let you know that Risa-chan went home early.”
Within minutes Amane Reika, gorgeous with long pink hair, and light brown eyes, with all the sass and anger to match, a literal force of nature, came charging through the classroom doors. She put on a facetious smile and asked Noriko through gritted teeth, “Noriko-chan, what kind of nonsense has my little sister been getting into today?”
A chill ran down Noriko’s back. She was so scared of Reika’s wrath she didn’t even have time to shake nervously. “She was actually sick this time Reika-san, I swear, I think she had a fever. She made me promise not to tell you till she left. To be honest, I’m starting to get worried. She said she would tell me when she got home and I haven’t heard from her yet.”
With a final glare, Reika turned around and made a phone call. “Saya, have you seen Risa around? What?! Ok. Should I come home early? She’s fine? Alright, I’ll come straight home after school.”
“You’re lucky this time Noriko, you gotta stop covering for her. Saya said she collapsed in the entryway. She’s ok though, the doctor will be by to check on her shortly.”
Noriko saw the dark-haired senpai staring into the classroom holding what looked like two homemade lunches. Noriko didn’t understand why she was there, but she looked worried.
