Chapter 18:
Cherry: A Blossom Anew
Z and Kash fell into their desk chairs. “That wasn’t even a workout, bro.”
“I don’t care, Kash, the job’s done."
“You’re no fun, asshole. We need a fun mission, one where I can actually break a sweat,” said Kash.
“Kash and Z, get your asses up here now,” a man shouted over the speaker.
“Goddammit, it’s always something.” Walking into an office, an old man sat at a desk with a view of the city from behind. “Yes, boss, you called us."
“Since you two always clear your missions so damn fast, I think it’s time for your biggest one yet. It’s for the disappearing war. Our planet isn’t only being affected, but our allies are facing the same hell, triple the bullshit.” Kash jumped up, almost kicking his desk over. “Thank you, boss!”
“Sir, when are we heading out?”
“At thirteen hundred, but the trip to your destination will take a full day at light speed. You're going to be the princess's bodyguard for one of our off-world allies.”
“Princess, boring,” sighed Kash, throwing her hands up.
“Don’t be so fast to judge. If the information is right, the princess is a powerhouse herself.”
“What do you mean by this, boss,” asked Z.
“For over the past month, this princess had multiple attempted kidnappings. She’s a tough one, making her way back by herself. Now the enemy's numbers are swarming more aggressively. You two are going to protect her. So get the hell out and get ready!”
Kash and Z walked to the doors, Kash's smile spread across her face.
"Powerhouse hopefully, there's plenty more there.”
“Princess, uh, let’s see where this goes."
Off-planet golden essence and blood breezed along the night sky. Troops on jetpacks split the clouds, lasers followed behind a young Sola, summoning different stars, reflecting their shots back.
Blood leaked out the clouds, ripping those invaders to nothing. These guys just kept coming. What the hell was that light so far out? Is that more enemy reinforcements?
Two feet clashed on Sola's side; she barely managed to put a barrier up; still, the impact sent Sola eating dirt. What the fuck was that? She spit out dirt and blood. In a flash, an android stood by her.
Having no time to react, three punches hit Sola’s liver, face, and throat. Sola rolled across the field. These things just kept coming. What the fuck did they want from me and my people?
Sola recovered, except she wasn’t fast enough. The android kicked Sola on the side, lifting her off the ground. Repeatedly smashing her body upon the itchy grass surface. Sola coughed blood, sliming. “Got you.”
This whole time Sola placed tiny stars around its neck; she only saw the particles building around. The robot sensors didn’t realize a thing. “Star implant!”A star pierced out, appearing through the android's neck, cutting its head off.
Its body afterward blew up. Sola walked into the forest, dragging her leg behind. "Keep moving; I gotta make it to the kingdom," she mumbled.
Turning around, another android kissed Sola with a pistol’s barrel, the weapon glows of heat, preparing to kill the princess.
The pistol and bot exploded from the damage inflicted earlier, causing the laser to completely miss her. "I couldn’t even fly if I wanted to. How could I let myself take this much damage, after she saved me… And they keep coming!"
A white beam ripped through the androids above Sola. “What the hell was that?” said Sola. Looking up, more androids closed in behind her. Another white beam fried the bots.
The light in the sky from earlier rushed past her. A spaceship fell before the princess. Sola made eye contact with a young Mr. Z hanging on the side. “I’m guessing you’re Princess Sola!”
The spaceship smacked the ground, erupting into an explosion. What the hell just happened? Who was that man? More laser rounds fired at Sola, but she continued blocking with stars. One massive beam bolted for Sola.
Her body bounced across the surface. Sola’s blood watered the grass. "I can’t move, dammit. More androids close in on me, their eyes glowing green. 'Move, you rotten droids! I've got a place to reach. Get the hell out of here. Move, move,'” screamed Sola.
The multiple rifle's barrel pointed to her, glowing in heat, preparing to go for the kill. Blasted in pieces, a flash of white cleared any danger away. Shots burned the grass, almost hitting her eye. What, where the hell was this light coming from? Someone’s here? It's Z standing before Sola.
An android ship crashed to the ground, flames breaking out. Kash jumped out before hitting the ground, clapping both hands together, launching past without notice. Cracking one bot, crumbling the rest from behind.
“Now I’m glad we took this mission, Z; these guys won't stop coming. Is that the brat princess?”
“Yeah, it’s the princess, the reason we came here. Kash, don’t forget about the mission.”
“Oh yeah, I’ll remember. How about you escort the princess to the city, and I’ll be the backup watching your six?” said Kash.
Z sighed. “Listen you crazy bastard don't go too far away. Sis...Go wild."
"Yeah, yeah, I got you. Thanks, big bro."
Clapping both hands together, she shot into the sky, flying for more incoming ships. “Alright, time to push forward.” Z throws Sola over his shoulder.
Z ripped through the forest, leaving burning leaves behind. Just how fast was this guy? Sola looked at Z's feet. He wasn't even on the ground. What were these flames? Were they not even harming him? Z’s feet glowed with spirit energy, gliding across like skating.
Multiple android-like hounds chased behind Z and Sola. “I thought I sensed something; sorry, Princess, I need to put you down real quick,” said Z. His hand glowed white, and Z rocketed Sola into the sky.
The bushes shook, and plenty more mecha hounds closed in on Z from all directions. The Ghost trigger glowed, a beam extended out the barrel. “Muzzle flush!” Like a whip, the beam floated above Z, spinning into the air; he shredded the remaining hounds.
"This bastard would have killed me before I was even safe." Almost hitting the ground, Z caught her. “I’m back, Princess. How was the view up there?”
“Don’t throw me like that again, you jackass.” Sola pulled down on his ear.
“Yeah, yeah, don’t worry,” said Z.
“Will that other woman be alright?”
“Yeah, for sure, my sister is really strong."
Explosions blew up across the sky. "Yeah, she's having fun up there for sure," said Sola. Footsteps passed over roots, closing in on Z and Sola. Golden soldiers surrounded them, holding weapons. Z unclicked the safety. Let's see where this goes. “Wait, those are my people.”
"I think you should tell them to stand down and hear me out."
“You stay put and hand over the princess now or face death!” The golden knight’s sword pierced the dirt. Z dropped Sola down.
“Is this how you repay me for saving your princess?” Veins popped out over his neck. The golden knight drew his sword at Z. “I’ve never seen someone with this much spirit energy. You must be the enemy.” Golden aura surrounded the knight and troops. Sola stood in front of Z.
“Stop, this man saved my life. Stand down, Luther.” Explosions crashed into the ground; it was Kash. “You got a problem with my brother, huh?” Kash’s eyes shook.
“Kash, don’t!” She clapped both hands together, closing the distance; however, Luther drew his sword.
Clashing together, blue and golden essence mixed through the forest. All the troops around Luther flew back. “That’s some strength. On the other hand, you’ll need more. I can’t let you get between me and our princess,” said Luther.
Pushing her back with his sword, Kash clapped again, bolting at him. Kash clapped again, spinning around Luther. “She’s dodging at this close range,” said Sola. Kash struck Luther on the back, sending him flying through the forest.
In the blink of an eye, Luther's sword was mere inches away from Kash. With a swift clap, Kash managed to dodge the deadly swipe. Sweat trickled down her hair and cheeks, forming droplets that fell to the ground.
Kash and Luther rocketed towards each other. “Impact viper bl…” Luther's words were cut short by a sudden white beam that pierced both him and Kash, pinning their bodies to the grass. “Damn you, Z!” Kash cursed, struggling to move.
“I've disconnected your body and soul. Don't worry, you're just temporarily immobilized,” Z explained. Sola tore a piece of her bloody shirt to wrap her wounds. "Luther, let me explain everything to you. Kash, just stay put," Sola said with a sigh. "You should've listened to me. Z saved my life; he's on our side."
