A new world

Some people are afraid of the dark, others of heights. I am afraid of time, because I know it will lead me to death. My name is Dexter Labrey, I am a scientist well known for my contributions to science, I am 28 years old and my life is interesting, but sometimes I find it a bit boring. That is why I decided that I want to travel to the future, although that is not my only reason, in fact I am very afraid of death. It is for that and other reasons that I want to go to the future. In that future they will have solved all of humanity's problems, even death..., and that is why I decided to create a time machine. I have been working on it for a few years in my parents' garage, among rusty tools and remains of my failed experiments. I have always lived with them, I do not want to leave and live alone, I really enjoy their company. I have a good relationship with them, since I was a child I have always been very close to my mother, she has always been very good to me and very understanding with my somewhat particular needs, such as the taste of food, loud noises, etc. However, my fear of death overcomes it, so no matter what, I am going to travel to the future. The days go by and I am getting closer to my goal, I am sorry...

Dexter: I have done it! I finally managed to create the time machine..., after so many years... It took me 5 years to develop it and, finally, I am going to be able to leave here to a new world and start a new life in the future.

That was the most complicated thing I have done in life, there were so many mistakes that I thought about giving up many times, but in the end I managed to persevere and develop the time machine, the only bad thing is that only what I put inside it travels in time, so I will not be able to take it with me, but it does not matter... I am going to risk everything with this, I have sacrificed a lot to get to this point. I'll have to rely on "luck" on this one, even though I don't like that at all.

Once I finished packing, I went to the garage and set the date of the trip to 1000 years, once that was done I entered the machine and traveled to the future. It was a pretty weird thing, but I had traveled to the future, it was the year 3031, the buildings were huge, there were cyborg people and seemingly normal people, cars flew, although not very high. There were also too many fights, so much so that it seemed like daytime. I spent a lot of time exploring and talking to people, asking some questions and I found out that the world is controlled by an artificial intelligence, which is capable of improving itself, that is incredible to be honest. It was something I dreamed of at the time. The idea of ​​a global utopia is magnificent. I imagine that artificial intelligence was in charge of solving all of humanity's problems and made great scientific and technological discoveries, very typical of a singularity. I wonder if there are a lot of people doing regular maintenance or if there are robots that take care of that. So far I haven't seen any, that is strange to be honest, this is the year 3031 and there should be plenty of robots on the streets as they would be very common. Maybe they are used for more important things.

Dexter: I'm glad it came true! Anyway, I should figure out how to make money.

After talking to more people I found out that they give you money just for being alive and that there are no jobs, everything is done by artificial intelligence, so I did the paperwork and they paid me, with that money I rented an apartment and spent the night there, it was very cozy, the first thing I did was go to bed and lie down while I thought about what I was going to do tomorrow, the next day I just spent my time gathering information about the place where I was, then I bought something similar to a watch which had very crazy functions, it was hard for me to understand it, luckily I had a guide. With that I set out to learn as much as possible about technological advances, history, and some words that I didn't understand, among other things. I was locked up in the apartment for a long time studying, I only went out to buy food and water. I was like that for months, until I discovered on a website that there are virtual universities. I also found out that only important people can take the therapy to stop cellular aging, so I bought a computer to be more comfortable when writing and I started studying "data analysis and AI maintenance", they taught you to analyze the data collected by artificial intelligence and to interpret it, maintenance was to do maintenance on artificial intelligence. Once I entered the degree I started studying, there were 30 students in a virtual class led by a robot. It was perfect, I didn't have to deal with people around me, although it may not seem like it, I have social phobia and it's hard for me to deal with people. In that class there wasn't much that caught my attention, until the robot started asking questions and a beautiful girl answered in such an elegant and precise way that it shook me, she was very intelligent and beautiful, as the days went by I stood out more in the virtual classes, until they took the first exam, in which I got the highest grade, I was the best in the exam and she was in second place. She seemed upset, although I didn't pay much attention to it, what I did pay attention to was that I thought she was pretty, every gesture or movement she made was beautiful. This had never happened to me before... before traveling back in time I had never found a person attractive... It seems that I'm falling in love... I have to talk to her, I copied her username and spoke to her privately, I said "Hi, I'm Dexter, the one who got the highest score on the exam, I'm sending you this message because your intelligence caught my attention and I was wondering if we could be friends.", she didn't answer immediately, it took her a few days to respond and when she did she said "Your intelligence also catches my attention, okay, I'll be your friend.". I felt very happy when I read the message. Days went by and she and I talked daily about different topics, we both felt comfortable talking to each other, until one day came when I asked her if we could see each other in person and she agreed. That day I was very nervous, I dressed up as best I could and went to the meeting area, which was a mini plaza where the children played. After waiting a while I saw her figure approaching me.

Her name is Rachel Wavebern, she is 19 years old, her hair is long, light brown and straight, her eyes are also light brown and her skin is white and smooth, she is passionate about reading, learning and getting information, she also likes games, although she doesn't play much. Another thing she likes is animals. She was also the best student in high school with the highest average.

Rachel: Good! Today is a beautiful day for me to show you the city.

Dexter: Yes, the weather is very nice. I wonder if there is a library nearby, we could go there for a while and then continue touring the city.

We were both blushing, we walked slowly out of the square. We crossed a road and headed to the library. It didn't take us long to get there, to my surprise it was close. I was surprised I hadn't seen it before when I went out to explore the city on my own. Once inside the library we looked for a place to sit and talk, the room was so quiet and relaxing that I felt like home.Rachel: What do you think? Do you like it?

Dexter: Yes, it's so quiet and peaceful here, how about we read something?

Rachel: But that's going to take time...

Dexter: Never mind, how about we put aside the initial plan and just relax here reading some book? Sounds good right?

Rachel: I'm not going to deny it, it sounds good... Hmm, okay, let's do that.

We were there reading for 3 hours while we talked about our books, we also gave our opinions about what we read. The library was huge, but we didn't explore it completely, the building was 2 stories and very big.

After reading so much we decided to go back to the library next week. But now in a few days we were going to go explore the city.When I got home the first thing I did was go to bed and continue reading the book I had chosen at the library, it was a very interesting story, it talked about a world where magic existed, fantasy monsters and things like elves and demi-humans, although some of them were taken as slaves by humans. The humans in these kinds of stories are the worst... I stretched out and relaxed while I turned off the light to get some sleep. Even though it wasn't nighttime I felt like sleeping, so I just did it.

The next morning I woke up with a headache.

Dexter: Looks like I slept too much...

Dexter: I'll watch something to distract myself until my headache goes away, the good thing is that I don't have online classes today, so I'm going to wait until the afternoon to go back to the square and wait for Rachel to explore the city at once.

So I watched some videos, then I went to take a shower and to wait for the time to leave I started reading the same book from yesterday. When the time came I left the apartment and went to the square, there were quite a few robots on the street that day, In the end they were very common to see, anyway I want to see it, I'm so anxious...

Dexter: Oh, hello, Rachel! Did you wait long?

Rachel: Not long.

Dexter: That's good, I wouldn't have liked to keep you waiting

We left the square and headed to the mall. On the way I saw very interesting things, different types of robots, a lot of variety of people and cyborgs, amazing buildings that I had only seen in the distance, there was an area where there was a park, there are many things that are still preserved from the past, I like that. There were also small convenience stores in that area, but it is not unusual.

After a long walk we arrived at the mall, it was very big, I stayed to admire it for a moment with Rachel, but not for long, after a while of contemplation we went in and I started to look around, there were many interesting things like technology stores, clothing stores, pharmacies, and other things. One of the things that caught my attention the most there was the open space, it looked so aesthetically good that it was very nice to see.After seeing what was around we went to a nearby clothing store and looked at the clothes while we talked.

Rachel: This shirt is beautiful, don't you think?

Dexter: I guess, I don't know much about clothes...

Rachel: I think I'll buy it.

Dexter: Those pants over there are pretty good, I like them.

Rachel: You should buy some!

Dexter: I think I will

Dexter: Excuse me, miss, how much are these pants?

Dexter: I'll take one, here.

After we bought clothes we went to the technology store, there we looked at a variety of gadgets, even a domestic robot, which cooks and cleans. When we were close to our houses we said goodbye and went our separate ways. Once home I took a long bath and remembered with appreciation what had happened today, after that I watched videos until bedtime...
