Chapter 8:
Why'd I Have to Fall in Love with My Sister's Bestfriend?
Risa woke up to a massive headache. It had been several days yet she was still waking up like this. She swiftly swallowed a tylenol that she had sitting on her bedside table. Today was the day of Mei-senpai's date, so Risa needed to get herself ready. If she was doing this, she was going to take it seriously. This meant she had to doll herself up and wear her best fit.
For Risa most of her wardrobe consisted of gaming tees, hoodies, or outrageous yuri fangirl shirts. This was going to be a challenge. She did have one outfit that she had used to cosplay her shooter avatar at the last championship she attended but it was a bit provocative. Risa looked at the clock and she knew she needed to hurry up. The past week out of school Risa had been so busy finishing her assignments for the school year that she had forgotten to go clothes shopping. The programming and web development classes that she had were self paced so she finished those. She was about a week ahead in all her other classes that weren't self paced. Risa was one of the top students almost every year which made others dislike her since she missed as many days as she could without being expelled. Also during the week she had several visits from both Mei-senpai and Noriko-chan so she had been rather busy despite being at home and unable to game.
Risa finished searching for something to wear and came to the conclusion that cosplay was her only option. With a defeated sigh Risa took the clothes out of their dry cleaning bag and laid them on her bed. With a final sign she sat down and pulled on her black leather pants that were adorned with a dozen zippers, most of which did not lead to any pockets. The fabric clung to her body tightly, like a second skin. It accentuated the femininity of her slender legs and curvy hips. The shirt was a white crop top partially made from fishnet. The sleeves were puffy but light. Over the top Risa added a black leather mini vest and the outfit was complete.
Risa looked in the bathroom mirror and thought that at least she looked good in this outfit though it was a bit over the top for a date. Beggars can't be choosers. She turned on the curling iron and grabbed her mascara and eyeliner from her bathroom drawer. She rarely had the opportunity to use these but since she was already inappropriately over dressed, she figured now would be a good time to use them. After applying a thin layer of mascara and going a little too heavy on the eye liner, she curled her hair. She finished off her look with some light lip gloss.
After a final fit check, Risa walked out of the bathroom only to be met by Reika-chan. She stood in the doorway, arms folded, brows furrowed, and tapped her foot on the floor. “Risa-chan, where are you going looking like that?”
Risa let out an awkward laugh, “I have a date today, nee-chan”.
The incredulous expression on Reika's face told Risa that her sister did not believe her.
“It's true nee-chan. I have a date. She should be here to pick me up any minute.”
“Risa, you don't need to lie to me. Just tell me what or where you are headed.”
“Nee-chan….” there was a sudden quick knock on the front door. Reika quickly turned around and rapidly walked to the door. When she opened it she was surprised to see Mei who was also over dressed. Her black hair was half up and half down. She wore a blue and white lolita style fitted dress with white slip on shoes. She also had done her makeup. Her already long lashes were made even longer by her mascara, her eye color was more prominent as it stood in contrast to her dark eyeliner. She looked absolutely stunning.
Reika looked at Mei then at Risa, then back at Mei. Her face started to turn red as she realized what was going on. Mei stood with her hands clasped behind her back waiting for Reika to move out of the doorway so she could come inside. When she didn’t move, Mei in a sing-song voice said, “Reika-chan. Can I come inside?”
Reika shook her head a little then moved out of the doorway, “Hi, sorry I was just surprised to see you. We weren’t expecting you today. I thought you had a date today?”
Mei let out a half sign, half laugh, “I do have a date today, and I’m here to pick her up. Risa-chan, come on, let's go!”
Reika looked so confused that Risa started to feel bad. At this point she was hiding behind her bedroom door, looking out anxiously at her sister and Mei-senpai interacting. She could sense the tension in the air and decided it was time to intervene. Risa stepped out of her bedroom and was about to start talking when her and Mei’s eyes met. Mei’s eyes began to sparkle as she looked at Risa. She pulled the flowers out from behind her back and handed them to her.
Completely ignoring Reika, Mei handed Risa the flowers and said out loud, “Wow you look so beautiful. Did you do all this just for me?”
Risa’s cheeks flushed, “I promised you a proper date didn’t I? Reika-nee, Mei-senpai is the person who I am going on a date with. I’ll be home before curfew, and if you need to get a hold of me just call Mei’s number.”
Reika just stood there in disbelief. What even was this? When did Mei and Risa even get close enough to plan a date? Her jealousy began to bubble up, but before she could flip her lid, Mei dragged Risa out by the hand and the door shut with a gentle thud. Reika was deciding how she would handle Risa when she got home, but was also thinking about ways to keep herself calm. It wouldn’t be fair to punish Risa for going on a date, but she really wanted to because Mei was hers.
Meanwhile, Mei was basically skipping back and forth with excitement. Risa couldn’t help but smile at Mei’s excitement about their date. She must really like her a lot.
Risa became increasingly curious about where they were going as Mei headed towards the train station, “Mei-senpai, where are we going exactly or what’s the plan?”
Mei replied giddily, “First I thought we could get a snack and some tea, then I have something pretty cool planned for us after.”
“Awesome, I am getting a little hungry,” Risa held her stomach. She had been so excited to get ready she had forgotten to eat.
Mei swayed back and forth as they walked and kept looking at Risa's hand and then her own in an extremely obvious hint.
Risa understood the assignment, and grabbed Mei’s hand. “This is ok right? Since we are officially out on a date together?”
Rather than answering, Mei interlaced her fingers with Risa’s and walked closer to her. Finally they arrived at the train station. The two were still holding each other’s hands. The train arrived and the two hopped on in silence. As the bots checked them for vouchers, the two exchanged shy glances. Finally one of them broke the silence.
Risa spoke up, “I haven’t seen you in such a long time. What’s new? What do you do for fun? What kind of music do you like?”
Mei’s eyes brightened and the two began to talk about all their favorite things, they left the train hand and hand, laughing and smiling. Risa was surprised by how well their talks were going, and felt herself excited to learn more about Mei-senpai.
