Chapter 23:

The Mystery of the Cursed Rain

Abyss of evolution

The rain intensified after Ami landed, she covered herself with an umbrella and looked at the bottom.

"Why don't you show up, Yomi? What am I doing wrong?"

Ami felt strange and closed her eyes, entering a meditation in which she believed she could call upon Amaterasu. In this state, Ami also analyzed the workings of her own body. Frightened, the girl opened her eyes and brought her hand closer to her face. She sniffed and took a good look. Although Ami didn’t use magnifying lenses or other devices, she’d modified the lenses of her eyes for a zoom comparable to an electron microscope.

"Your!"

Ami cursed and shook her hands, but quickly realized that it was useless.

Ami loaded a couple more beads into the umbrella and used a combination of ultraviolet radiation, trying to disinfect herself, and then thermal radiation to enhance the effect.

"So, I was right… Inside those raindrops were nanobots that "stole" the ashes of the dead. And that sphere… is it a huge magnet and a control center!? "

Ami revealed the secret of the cursed rain.

"And the rain is just a name. It contains little water, it's a multi-component liquid solution… But what's more important is why do you need our genes…"

Ami said thoughtfully, and then looked at the sky.

"Mom? What!?"

Ten Khidora carcasses hanging directly from the clouds continued to twitch in convulsions until they suddenly froze terribly, along with the drops of bloody rain. And then they began to move in the opposite direction: both carcasses and drops.

"This can't be… When will you die!?"

"How rude, Amaterasu…" A deep female voice sang from behind the clouds. "Even though you’re just a vessel. A demigoddess. Why are you so reluctant to meet your mother?"

"Izanami is long gone from us!" I screamed at Ami, "You're just her terrible shadow!"

"You want to bring your husband back to the world of the living, don't you?" The mysterious voice continued. "I want that fate for everyone!"

"No! You want to send us all to Yomi no Kuni - the world of the dead!"

"Only by merging them together, all will be equal in life and death."

Some of Hidora's spilled blood returned to the carcasses and clouds, restoring his body. But it continued to fragment, creating more and more heads. Ami heard strange screams, and she lowered her head, discovering with horror that the remaining blood began to raise the spawn of the shadow world. The girl staggered back, stepping into a pool of blood, from which a hand immediately reached out, trying to grab her leg, but Ami quickly pulled it away.

"Damn it! This is all we need. We need to destroy the sphere so the nanobots lose their organizing core and magnetic levitation. But how do I get there now?"

Ami analyzed the situation, turning back to the still pulsating stream of lava.

"This flow is no longer enough…"

While Hidora was recovering and forming more and more heads, of which there were already hundreds, but smaller in size, the demons from the blood of the snake attacked Ami. They were quite weak, and the girl destroyed them with one blow. However, they quickly recovered and were also extremely sticky, or rather magnetic. Each time they created more and more terrifying forms, gathering into larger monsters.

In order to deal with them quickly, Ami once again unleashes the power of the magatama beads, restoring energy and strengthening herself.

"At this rate, the magatama will soon run out, and I still need to somehow deal with the sphere!" Ami complained about her desperate situation.

"…nanobots! Finally, something became clear, but that's all…" Miku disconnected from the transmission of Ami's consciousness.

"This is incredible! Even Mukibutsu doesn't have such technology, does it?" Keshita was also distracted.

“From open sources, their developments in the field of nanorobots looked like they were in the initial stages, and this is…”

"This weapon will be more terrible than our experiment. What are we going to do?"

"For now, we can only watch, unless… your ability develops into something more…"

"I must become a weapon!?"

"That was the whole point! Well, almost…"

"Damn, my head is splitting again…"

"This ability is so exhausting…"

There was a crunching sound.

"Here, I need to regain my strength while I can."

Keshita greedily devoured a protein bar, washing it down with water. Tamiya remembered his favorite soda, but for the first time with disgust, since he could no longer stand the mention of lightning.

While Keshita and Miku were snacking and watching the battle, they heard the rustling of leaves and the cracking of trees nearby. The pair turned around and froze in fear as they saw the demons approaching them.

"W-Why are they here, Keshita!?"

"I-I don't know. Did you smell banana bars?"

"Huh? The cloak is out of charge!"

"Damn, they're surrounding us. Run!" Keshita shouted and grabbed Miku's arm.

"They're catching up, we're going to die now!"

"Don't panic! The cloak still gives invisibility, the other functions are disabled. They found us somehow else."

"How could I not notice!? I'm the one who should be taking care of him…" Miku thought.

"Care?.." Keshita blushed.

A whistle of gunfire was heard ahead, Keshita and Miku stopped abruptly and looked around. The demons were connecting the trees around them, weaving them into a kind of black web.

"We're trapped!"

The passage behind them remained unconfused, having already been closed by the remaining demons who had caught up with them.

"It seems there is nothing left…"

Keshita walked straight at the demons with unusual determination or desperation. Tamiya punched one of them, which passed through the slime and then got stuck in it. The demon struck back with such force that Tamiya felt dizzy. Miku ran up to it and tried to pull it out of the slime, cursing the demons. The slime monster transformed its appendage into a blade and aimed at them, intending to pierce them all at once.

Keshita kicked, aiming at the demon's head-like form, but it didn't even feel it and continued the attack. Suddenly, an unusual spear flew at it and the monster was torn apart by an electric surge. Keshita fell on Miku, and they quickly crawled away.

"What happened? " Keshita asked, holding his still-aching head.

"Quiet!" Miku covered his mouth and then asked in a whisper." Aren't these the monks from Izumo-taisha that we saw?"

Judging by the clothes of the people who suddenly appeared, this was the case. The other demons were also attacked. monks with unusual spears that created a powerful electrical discharge upon impact, after which the demons could no longer gather.

"Why is he frozen in such a strange pose?" One of the monks asked, picking up a spear near the remains of the demon that was trying to pierce Keshita and Miku.

"Who can understand these demons?" Said another monk, finishing off his demon. "Better not even try. Let's go, the summit is near."

Keshita and Miku, after a while, went in a different direction, away from the places where there might be slime. Tamiya was still feeling dizzy. He stopped and sat down by a pine tree.

"Can you continue… or should we get out of here?"

"I'll try, we can't give up right now."

"Okay, then I'll climb the tree and study the situation."

"So, fighting… still."

A thought inadvertently slipped into Keshita's mind, and Miku was able to hear it when she let go of Tamiya. The girl was hooked by this thought, but she considered it a coincidence.

Keshita closed his eyes, trying to get his mind back on Ami as Miku positioned herself at the top of a tree and took out a pair of pocket electronic binoculars.

Ami fought a hundred different demons on top of a mountain, which was gradually flooded with magma and a forest fire was spreading, further illuminating the battlefield. The demigoddess's strength was running out, the demons surrounded her and connected in rings of spikes, forming a dome, which immediately began to narrow, rotating.

Having transformed the umbrella, Ami destroyed the dome, but when she came out of it, a demon with a spear attacked her from a blind spot right from a pool of blood.

The wind whistled behind the demigoddess and the metallic clang of a katana rang out. Ami turned around and froze, her eyes wide.

"K-kamiko!? Or are you her daughter? An exact copy… "

"Long time no see, Ami! Do you think only the gods know the secret of youth?"

Covering Ami's back, Soda turned around and smiled amiably at her old acquaintance.

The Sun's Guardians emerge from the shadows!
