Chapter 3:

Dancing blades and arrows, Part 2.

Digital Fighters

The wind blew through the arena, carrying with it a cloud of sand. Against all odds, Team Kennedy was leading the match. However, victory wasn't achieved yet. It was only a matter of time before Team Blue would prove their superiority.

Johnny took the advantage he got from his triumph over Team Blue’s speedster to retreat to Cole’s hidden position.

"Any hits?" The runner asked, catching his breath as he crouched beside his cousin.

"Not yet. Morrison’s been blocking everything with her shield," Cole replied, his words showing slight frustration.

"Impressive," Johnny said.

Jack’s voice intervened through their communicators. "We have numerical advantage now, but that doesn’t mean we’ve won. Stay sharp." The cousins nodded as they listened to their leader's voice. "Cole, do you think you can cover me while I track down Amy and Angie?"

"Got it," The tall man confirmed, as he started scanning the wasteland.

Jack moved cautiously, hunting the remaining members of Team Blue. Yet, despite his efforts, he couldn’t find a trace of them, despite inspecting every single rock and cliff in the terrain.Meanwhile, Johnny took a moment to recover the energy he lost for all the running he'd been doing so far. As he wiped the sweat from his brow, he kept his senses on high alert. But his rest was cut short by the echoes of an elimination buzz resounding in the arena. An arrowhead struck his leg armor, shattering it in an instant.

"Dammit! Where did that come from?" Johnny exclaimed as he vanished from the battlefield in a flash of light. His elimination left Cole perplexed.

"What? But we stole Angie’s quiver..." Cole muttered, piecing the situation together. Then it clicked: Team Blue had been collecting the arrows he’d fired, using Amy’s shield to catch them. The realization came just as a barrage of arrows rained down, forcing him to dive for cover.

Angie had reclaimed her role as Team Blue’s sniper, her precision now unhindered by Team Kennedy’s earlier sabotage, and was using the same strategy they had tried before. Cole Cole had to think fast, so he quickly took cover in a nearby cliff, searching desperately for the source of the attacks.

"Jack, I can’t cover you anymore. Johnny’s out, and Angie’s targeting me," he reported, ducking behind a rock as another arrow flew past.

"Don’t worry," Jack replied calmly. "I’ll deal with Amy and get back to you as soon as possible."Jack stood in the middle of the battlefield, his senses heightened. He couldn’t see Angie or Amy but was still prepared in case any of the girls came to attack him.

The shifting air warned him of an imminent attack. It was Amy! Instinctively, he dodged, barely avoiding a deadly strike. Amy’s shield slammed into the ground, sending up a cloud of dust. She straightened, brushing off her armor and flashing a confident smile.

"Impressive. Didn’t expect any less from the Central Dojo’s prodigy."

"Thanks for the compliment. But I have a hunch it's not genuine. Am I wrong?" Jack asked in a flat tone.

Amy smirked, running a hand through her blue hair in an alluring manner. Jack was not amused. "Oh, come on, Kennedy. Just because we’re on opposing teams doesn’t mean we can’t be friends... Maybe you could compliment my looks to even the score?"

Jack rolled his eyes. "Sorry, but I’m not interested in flirting with my cousin’s girlfriend."

"Haha, fine." Amy chuckled. "I guess we just have to solve this the old-fashioned way." She raised her shield, her stance ready and focused.

Jack smirked back at her, drawing his sword. "Whenever you’re ready."

In an instant, their weapons collided, sparks flying with every clash, making even the alpha barrier around the arena shake from the intensity of every single hit. Jack’s strikes were swift and precise, but Amy’s defensive mastery left no opening for him to exploit.

Meanwhile, Cole faced his own challenge, having a hard time as a barrage of arrows was shot against him. Angie’s relentless attack kept him pinned down, but her supply had to be finite. Instead of firing back, he conserved his ammunition, leaving her run out of ammo was the wisest choice.

Suddenly, arrows stopped flying. Did Angie waste all of them? Cautiously, Cole decided to go to higher ground. He climbed a steep cliff, laying on its top and preparing his bow as he scanned the battlefield for a sign of the Perfectionist Princess. But she was nowhere to be seen. He then looked at the center of the arena, noticing the clash between Jack and Amy.

Sword versus shield. The slashing sound of the blade hitting the alpha energy-powered emblem echoed in the stadium. The crowd's cheers were divided between the two fighters. The fight was intense, every hit, every parry, it could be felt from even the farthest stand.

In a display of strength, they both were locked in an attack, giving a chance for a brief exchange.

"So this is why you were chosen as leader instead of my dearest Alex, huh?" Amy quipped, winking an eye at the swordsman.

"Do you ever stop saying the most awkward stuff?"

"Not at all."

Jack sighed after her response, but his mood rose as he noticed his friendly sniper preparing his aim.

"Well, it doesn't matter, I won't have to listen to your comments for a while."

"Huh?" Her expression changed suddenly from overconfidence to a surprised, slightly worried look.

"You've already lost."

As Jack said this, an arrow flew and pierced Amy's back with precision, obliterating her armor. She couldn't even say a thing as she was teleported out of the battlefield. Jack smiled at Cole, thanking him for his support. But his smile was abruptly cut as he saw an arrow hit his allied bowman. Angie had eliminated his only teammate left.

The princess rose from the ground, she had buried a hole and was shooting from there, hiding from the naked eye. Jack’s heart sank as he watched Cole disappear. He turned to face Angie, now the sole remaining member of Team Blue.

"So that's where you were, huh?" Jack said, his voice steady despite the odds.

"It’s not an easy technique, especially in terrain like this. But when executed perfectly, it’s as deadly as you can't imagine." Angie started walking towards him as they exchanged words.

Jack's sight was set on her, targeting her now. Angie mirrored his stance and looks.

"They call you a prodigy, right?" She rested her hands on her hips as she mocked her opponent. "Well, I can certainly see why. But don't rely on that too much, because training means everything to an Engineer's skill. And, as you can see, no one has surpassed the amount of training I've endured myself."

Jack raised his sword, his eyes narrowing. “Big words for someone with no arrows left.”

"Well, let's just say..." She quickly sprinted towards him, taking her bow and parting it into halves, said halves suddenly becoming some sort of batons and hitting him quickly, making the Blue Swordsman fall to the ground.

"You're not the only prodigy here, Kennedy."
