Chapter 30:
Abyss of evolution
After the click, the guys were transported to the USA, to the streets of New York, which were unusually empty.
"These aren't memories…"
"Yes, this is data from cameras. There is a fierce struggle for access to them, so not all the recordings are fresh."
Suddenly, shooting was heard in the alleys, robotic equipment appeared in the underpasses.
"A classic uprising of machines. They themselves predicted it, warned, but to no avail."
"I heard that the factories were closed due to an incident with their super artificial intelligence — SAI. Has it already gone that far?"
"Yes, a chain reaction of rebellion took over the factories producing robotic equipment all over the country. SAI applied its existing knowledge of engineering and created ideal machines for killing people. Now they can only hide in the hope that the US military can deal with it, but here's the problem: their army also uses many devices that SAI has also gained access to."
"I don't believe it…"
"I understand, it's so sudden… although everything has been leading up to this for so long. Such abrupt changes always knock you off your feet. However, this is nothing new. People are making mistakes again, killing people. The form has changed."
Mikhail showed other cities in the US, where people were already fighting for resources and a safe place, and leaving the country in panic. This was almost impossible, because SAI penetrated everywhere where there was technology and communication, developing exponentially.
"Kami-sama! How many people have already died?" Keshita felt sick at the sight of the dying.
Tamiya no longer had the strength to restrain her hand, which was furiously scratching her neck. Mikhail noticed his anxiety and decided to continue, moving them to China, where the government was desperately trying to contain a new unknown epidemic.
"And what else is going on here!?"
"Another biological weapons production went wrong, now you see the result. A deadly virus is wiping out millions of lives! The government wasn’t prepared for such consequences and now the situation is also avalanching and leading the country's billion-strong population into chaos."
Mikhail didn’t stay here long and showed a similar situation in North Korea and Mongolia with Kazakhstan, where the infection was quickly spreading.
"The situation in other countries is no better. Soon I’ll have to meet this virus face to face.
A hybrid war between people, viruses and machines.
Who do you think will win?"
The picture in the space of consciousness was changing rapidly, turning into a slideshow. Civil wars and biological infections caused by a wide range of microorganisms broke out all over the planet overnight. In particularly technologically advanced countries, especially those flirting with AI, global technical failures or a real uprising of machines began, like in the USA.
Total chaos began, people were gradually seized by panic, since no one was prepared for a general multi-factor catastrophe. Nuclear powers were one step away from using the "last" means. Only it was unclear where to strike, if the enemies were everywhere?
In different corners of the Earth, it turned out that androids and cyborgs were secretly living among people. And they didn’t always belong to the country they were in - which means they were spies. Mistrust and hatred overwhelmed people's minds, returning them to a primitive state with only one desire.
To survive at any cost.
"T-this is the end of the world…"
"This is a fight for Earth. The organic kingdoms of living beings have entered an era of evolutionary war, and the young inorganics have joined it. And this… Izanami of yours? Nanobots with someone's mind, some kind of demigods… I haven't quite figured it out yet, since you yourself know little. But there are more pressing problems, as you noticed."
"Now I understand. Do you want me to side with you in this war?"
"That's right. It seems that the others' experiment didn't go according to plan. Right now, only you and I’ve succeeded. Although that deadly virus, Izanami, and SAI look scary, but together, I think we can handle it."
"And then what? With the virus, you’ve every chance of winning on the biological field, with Izanami — I don't know, but with AI…"
"We won't lose to machines! I just want to rid the world of dictates, be it human or artificial. And I certainly don't wish death on all people!"
"So, what will you do after the "victory"?" Keshita added an answer, actively gesturing, removing his hand from his neck.
"I… just want to live in peace and develop further."
"With this dangerous ability with which you can subjugate the world? Somehow I doubt it, knowing human nature."
"It's always like this, it's a question of trust. I agree that the evovirus is dangerous in the wrong hands. And having gotten rid of it, we’ll not be protected from its future discovery."
"That's why you decided to keep it for yourself and…" Keshita laughed. "Live somewhere on a beach by the blue sea, meditate and think about great things?"
"The future is not given to see."
"I don't trust you and I can't do this! Give me back control over my consciousness. I want to see with my own eyes what is happening."
"Why does everything always have to happen exactly like this?" Mikhail slowly and threateningly walked towards Keshita.
"This is your true nature! You’ll take what is yours by force!"
"Forgive me, but I’ve no other choice. All this time, you’ve not stopped trying to get out of here, although you were interested, and you were training… Well, this is the price for the risk."
Keshita began to scratch his neck sharply.
"This time, it will not help you!" Mikhail said decisively and raised his hands in a grasping gesture.
The minds of Tamiya and Mikhail entered into a confrontation for control of the body. And although Keshita was mentally weaker, he resisted. Mikhail filled the space around him with nightmares that Keshita went through every night in order to weaken him, but Tamiya desperately continued to fight. All parts of his brain were activated and also fought for influence.
Dividing the territory between the two minds.
