Chapter 12:
LOCKOUT!!
Back in the wastelands, Haylee froze and immediately dove into Nicki, rolling behind a rock. Nicki's heart began beating as she surmised Haylee wouldn't be doing this unless danger was present.
"What is it?" she whispered.
"Patrol and sentry."
To keep humans from escaping, the Leeanna had devised many such methods. From AI sentries to patrol squads, it was near impossible for a human to escape the colony and not be hunted down, assuming they could even escape the colony in the first place. With 1,000 ft high walls, a dome enclosure, and exit only possible via one main gate, the colonies were prisons in of themselves, begging the question of how Haylee and Nicki managed to sneak out in the first place.
The answer to that laid in the colonies themself. Every colony was roughly 5 kilometers in circumference, and were outfitted with the following amenities, housing, both for humans and Leeanna officials, a large mess hall, a school, and the pit mine. The pit mine was the key to many human's initial escapes from colonies as the mines extended underground, bypassing the barriers, or more accurately, mostly being outside them. The colonies' barriers did extend at least 100 ft underground, however, each barrier in the area designated as it's respective colony's pit mine, had a giant 10ft metal door, leading to the outside underground and greater mineral mining opportunities.
Each day, guards would bring waves of humans through the doors to take them to a large underground hall and mine known as the main mine hall, or MMH, where they would be left to mine to their heart's content, though everyone was required to meet an obscene quota of viable minerals. While guards could choose to stay and supervise physically or simply sit back in the comfort of the control room and watch feed from the cameras in the main mine hall. They were not required to stand constant watch as per Kyutee's orders, but most chose to, as they felt leaving humans to their own devices would allow them the chance to conspire amongst themselves.
Of all the colonies though, colony 69 was said to have the laxest security, and at Kyutee's insistence no less, baffling the rank and file. There, officials were actually forbidden from doing role checks and at nightfall, approximately 7:00 PM local time, the door to the mine was to be shut, regardless of who was still inside, and not be opened again until 7:00 AM the next morning.
The colony was also provided with the highest quality mining tools, making it all the more likely for a human to use them to craft an escape tunnel. That didn't mean escape was as easy as it sounded as outside patrols by robot sentries and Leeanna officials were constant, except for a brief 30 minutes between 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM. The reason for this was a specific order to Colony 69, preventing any form of patrol for those 30 minutes. Even if a human was spotted escaping, patrolmen would be forbidden from pursuing or attempting to stop them, with the sentries temporarily restraining them should they try to defy the order.
Thus, Haylee and Nicki had a nice 30 minute head start, and had some nifty mining tools on them. The cheap flashlight they were using was actually a strategic choice, as it's low beam would be harder to spot than the stadium-light glow of the mining headlamp.
Nicki was also insistent on saving it for a last-ditch defense, should they find themselves confronted solely by Leeanna. But the two Leanna on patrol were some of the worst ones in the area. One was a large male with large horse-like teeth and a horse-like face to match that rode atop a scooter with a bouncy orange ball on the bottom of it, making the device a glorified pogo-scooter. He was clad in a purple bunny hood, slippers, and speedo, along with a frilly pink tutu.
Riding atop his back was a female Leeanna, clad in cow print cowgirl attire. Her ten-gallon hat was constantly drooping over her eyes, forcing her to reset it every few seconds, but despite the hindrance, she was one of the best of the best, having a perfect track record in terms of catching escaped humans.
"Twinky Winky and Dixie. Just great. I hope they don't have some device that deactivates our mining tools," Nicki thought as she peeked out.
She and Haylee quickly began wrapping cloths around their mouths to prevent any sudden yelp from escaping their lips,
Twinky Winky stopped, sniffing the air. "Ey, I think I smell them humans."
"Darn better. We only had to let em run cuz of them darn rules," Dixie snarled.
Nicki trembled as the sentries whirred through the air, following Twinky Winky as he bounced towards a rock.
"I smell em. I smell em good!" Twinky Winky declared as he extended a baton out, shattering the rock to bits.
"Well, you find em?" Dixie asked as she pulled her hat up.
Twinky Winky stared down in silence. There was nothing behind the rock. But that wasn't why he had gone silent. Something HAD been behind the rock, and if Dixie saw what that was, he'd be in big trouble.
"Twinky Winky, the hell's that on the baton!?"
A bead of sweat trickled down Twinky Winky's face as he slowly held it up. At the end of the baton was a pair of women's panties. "Heh heh, I told ya I smelled em," he nervously laughed.
What followed next was a spur to the gut and ass as Twinky Winky fell off his scooter with a thud.
"You can search on foot then, perv!" Dixie scoffed as she commandeered the scooter and headed off in the opposite direction.
"Ey don't steal ma scoota!" Twinky Winky cried as he stumbled after her.
Behind another rock, Nicki trembled red-faced while clutching her skirt. It had been spur of the moment thinking, but Nicki had decided to sacrifice her panties, allowing Haylee to hurl them like a baseball behind another rock before the patrol came into view.
"You did good girl. Sorry I'm always wearing shorts," Haylee smiled as she removed her gag and patted Nicki on the head.
"Th- This archangel better be real. I want this hell to be over," Nicki grumbled as she removed her gag and continued onward with Haylee, both unbeknownst that a new pair of eyes was watching them.
"Two human girls..."
