Chapter 3:

The Voss

Veilborn: Rise of the Shadow heir

"My name is Alastair Voss, God of the Shadow Realm and Shadow Sovereign of the Abyssal Council. I am he who battled against the Hero Sylvester."

"Um, you battled against the Astral Hero Sylvester Armstrong?" Kael questioned with doubt."Not in this form of course. I've currently been reduced of my power because of this system thing," Alastair said.

"Wait, you're able to see it? And you just said system so I've truly awakened?" Kael questioned with bright-eyed awe on his face.

"I can see it because I currently reside in your body. And yes you've awakened but it's a different kind of awakening from the Blessed," Alastair replied.

"I see..." (But I've truly awakened. After 17 years of praying.) "Wait, you said your name was Alastair Voss?" Kael asked.

"Ah, So I'm known. I was worried this era forgot about--"

"No, you and I share the same last name," Kael said with a dumb look on his face.

"... For real?

"Kael nods.

"My name is Kael Voss, I graduated from middle school, um... what day is it today?"

"Your name is Kael Voss?" Alastair questioned with a classic look of surprise.

"Y-yeah..." Kael replied.

"This no coincidence," Alastair said.

A middle-aged woman comes walking into Kael's room.

"Oh, you're finally awake. You've been asleep for two days so I was worried. This my late son's room so please take care of it," the lady said.

"That explains why the room looks different from my own. Why am I here? There's no way those people will let someone like me in their house," Kael asked.

"Well, I don't know where your castle is so I got those humans to let us stay," Alastair said as the memory of him planting fear in the couple flashed in his head.

"Did you just threaten and trespass a family that just lost their son?" Kael asked with a look of shock.

"Let's not mind that and let's focus on the situation at hand. So you're saying the humans of this era know nothing of who I am?"

"Well, it just said the Hero Sylvester put an end to the Celestial War by defeating the greatest threat to humanity," Kael said.

"Huh!? Which defeat!? I ended as the victor of that battle. The humans were no match for me," Alastair said.

"What!? But it says he won at the cost of his life!"

"After I defeated the bastard, I extinguished my soul and planned to resurrect a thousand years in the hope of a new challenge," Alastair added in his head. 'I can't tell him it's because I plan to battle the Serpent of the Abyss.'

"... I see, so history was forged," Kael said.

"Wait, so you believe me?" Alastair questioned.

"Well yes. Although I was in a dark space and thought I died, I can tell it was you who fought against the Ashenfiends using my body so I thank you for that," Kael said.

"No, that was not the plan," Alastair said.

"Huh?"

"The plan was for me to resurrect after a thousand years. You were selected as a host by Lyrhal to be used as a catalyst. You were supposed to be on the verge of death so I could easily take over but instead, we ended up sharing and I forced awaken your abilities," Alastair said.

"I see..."

"The reason could be that we share the same last name," Alastair said.

"No, my family's last name is Fischer. The name Voss was given to me so I could be differentiated from my siblings, symbolizing I'm cursed," Kael said.

"... You cheeky brat. Why would your family do that to you?" Alastair questioned.

"Well, there was a ghost story read to us in the past about a great demon that bore the name Voss. Well, I'm the only one in the family born and grew up without a Blessing," Kael said.

"Those damn parents of yours. How dare they compare me the Shadow God to a mere demon," Alastair grunted.

"But now I'll make them all pay by showing them I'm awakened. Especially Eve who left me for dead," Kael said.

"No, don't do that," Alastair said.

"Huh? Why?"

"Even if you've awakened, to them you're still cursed. What you've awakened isn't Astral magic but an ability that defies its very fabric. The system is what the blessed use to tap into divine power, but you tap into your power. Because in the Shadow Realm, everyone is their own God," Alastair said.

"That... really is amazing..."

"Has it finally piqued your interest lad? Whether it's coincidence or not, we now share the same body. In the meantime as I search for a new host, I'll help you get strong," Alastair said.

"Alright!"

"But as I was using your body, I realized you were surprisingly weak. You don't engage in any physical activity right?"

Kael averts his gaze and rubs the back of his head.

"I can't allow my host to be pathetic. We'll focus on growing you both physically and spiritually. You'll be strong before you know it," Alastair said.

A few minutes later, Kael sneaks out of the house dressed in a tracksuit and heads for the Magus training gym. He manages to sneak past the guards and enters the restricted room

."Before we begin, if you look at your stats window, you currently have 4,120 EXP points I've accumulated. You're going to use those points to increase your core attributes," Alastair said.

"Right!"

<Notice:>

- You've increased your strength from 5 >> 105

- You've increased your agility from 4 >> 104

- You've increased your intelligence from 7 >> 107

- You've increased your willpower from 7 >> 107

- You've gained 100 points for charm

- You've increased your luck from 5 >> 105

- EXP points remaining: 3,520

<Notice:>

- Attack power has increased from 5 >> 105

- Defense has increased from 3 >> 103

- Speed has increased from 3 >> 103

-Due to the stats increase, MP is now 70/70

- HP remains the same until the level has increased.

- Current Level: Level IX (Amateur)

- Rank: D Tier (Common)

- EXP points remaining: 3,220

======

"Well at least I'm not an E Tier," Kael said.

"This a cheat but it was your body gaining experience. Looks like it can't go over a hundred because your level is still low. We'll fix that today, so why did you choose this place?" Alastair questioned.

"Because this is where those not part of the Academy gain experience. Those low-level or someone like me aren't allowed here," Kael said while stretching his arms.

Life-form detected. Beginning Simulation

Measuring level: We'll begin with D Tier Ashenfiends. 50 Galeclaws

Fifty monster simulations appear, surrounding Kael. Kael accesses his inventory and pulls out the same scythe used by Alastair.

<Notice: You have equipped Death Scythe>

- A weapon forged by the Shadow God Alastair. Due to some restrictions, the weapon is a D Tier weapon.

- ATK: 10%

- SPD: 5%

- You may use the Skill Dispel on this scythe.

"Dispel?"

"Well, let's see what you've got"

The Ashenfiends charge in for Kael and Kael spins his scythe around and prepares himself. The Chillbane tries to attack Kael with its leg but Kael easily evades it and splits it in half.

"Woah, my reaction speed is amazing," Kael said.

"That's because of your increase in speed and agility. And your increase in attack power makes for your decisive strikes. But this method is not effective. Dispel is a technique used in close combat. The first level technique of the Shadow manipulation. It can cancel out magical attacks be they internal or external. For that, we need to increase your physical strength and not magical strength. Do you get that?"

"Yeah..."

Kael returns the scythe to his inventory.

"It's time to rack up my own points."

The Galeclaw charges in for him but Kael cloaks his fist in dark energy and throws a punch, destroying the Galeclaw's jaw and sending it flying.

"I didn't kill it?"

Another Ashenfiend attacks him from behind, sending him flying. It tries to stab Kael but Kael moves out of the way, evading its attack.

"Damn, I just awakened recently. I won't let you bastards get in my way," Kael said, increasing his fists' dark energy.

"That fool."Kael charges in and tries to swing but Chillbine attacks Kael in his abdomen, and Kael chokes on his spit and coughs out. The Galeclaw leaps in for him and swings at him, sending him flying.

'Well, it makes sense. Even if he added all the points to his stats, it was points I accumulated so it means nothing. The body has the experience while the mind is trying to catch up. And he lets his rage control him,' Alastair thought to himself.

Simulation complete. Monsters killed: 1/20

"That ends today's session. Now let's leave before the humans upstairs catch on," Alastair said.

A few minutes later in the household of the Jiwoo Family, Kael is seated in the backyard with battle dummies laid out in the field.

"Let's begin with addressing your issues. Though I accumulated EXP points, it was your body that gained the experience and not actually you. So the best solution to help you combat is to train your mind and your body to have you fight with your experience. Which is why we'' start with these dummies," Alastair said.

"Okay but how did you get your hands on these dummies?" Kael questioned.

"Well, I had some kind kids get it for me and set it up," Alastair said as a memory of him threatening the neighborhood kids flashed in his head.

"You..."

"Let's not focus on that right now. Back at the gym, you forcefully tried to use Dispel. That's wrong so we're going to help you focus on controlling your spiritual and mental energy. By combining these elements, you can develop a holistic approach to training that enhances both your mental and physical capabilities in combat situations, utilizing spiritual energy as a powerful adjunct to your skills and experience. Ready?"

"Yeah. Thanks, Alastair," thanked Kael.

"Hm? What for?"

"Thanks to you I can still pursue my goal. To dismantle this oppressive Astral Benediction system and finally put an end to discrimination," Kael said as he fist palms with a smile on his face.

Meanwhile, in the City of Lunaris, Astral Magus trucks are parked near the station, and a blue mobile with the Astral Magus logo arrives and parks near the trucks. The Zenith Sovereign comes walking out of the automobile dressed in the Astral Magus Sovereign uniform and the Astral Magus present all bow as the Zenith Sovereign walks past them.

*Zenith Sovereign uniform (Female): Coat: A long, tailored midnight blue coat with a high mandarin collar, designed for a more fitted silhouette. Silver accents trace the edges, and golden celestial embroidery adorns the coat's back and sleeves. Flared sleeves with silver lining enhance the elegant design. Cape: A dramatic, flowing silver cape adorned with golden embroidery of constellations, similar to the male version, but slightly longer, extending into a train for formal occasions. Underlayer: A sleek black tunic dress with silver and gold detailing, paired with fitted midnight blue leggings for added versatility. Legwear and Boots: Midnight blue leggings with faint golden runes. Polished black knee-high boots with golden soles, glowing astral runes, and a subtle heel for a regal yet functional appearance.

"You didn't have to make such a long trip, Lady Maeve. We would've handled the situation by ourselves."

{Kim DaeSong: Captain of the State of Ravenshade Silent Blades. Society Rank: Blessed Warrior. Blessing Rank: B Tier}

"The Astral Magus Association has to resolve this problem so I have to be here. Don't worry about the trip I took."

{Maeve Heiliger: Zenith Sovereign (President) of the Astral Magus Association. Society Rank: Divine Royal. Blessing Rank: ???}

They all walk up to the city engulfed in purple flames.

"It's been three days and the flames haven't extinguished," DaeSong said.

"Based on the Zenith records, there's only one person of this. Looks like they're finally on the move, The Shadow Coven," Maeve said with a pensive frown on her face.

Maeve slightly draws out her sword and the entire city is engulfed with white flames, consuming the purple flames. The flames die down and Maeve draws back her sword. The Astral Magus murmur amongst themselves...

"A-amazing..."

"So this is the strength of the Zenith Sovereign."

"It's not on a different scale."

Maeve turns around and heads back for her car.

"For the sake of the Kingdom of Nevan- No, the world. We must capture those Hazards and take them down for good," Maeve said while all the Magus bowed before her.
