Chapter 5:
Veilborn: Rise of the Shadow heir
One month later in the State of Eldoria, located at the North of the Kingdom of Nevan. Inside a massive octagonal tower, standing at over 120 meters tall. A man dressed in the academy uniform comes walking into the office.
"Sir, the instructors of the Nexus are here. Today is the day we begin with admissions of the Asta Academy," the man said.
"That's right. Remember to treat all students equally regardless of their status. Even a commoner can become the next Zenith Sovereign," the Head of the Nexus said.
Another member of the Nexus comes walking into the office and he says, "Sir, the prophesied six have arrived in the City of Nethrys. They're currently in the airport."
"Direct them to the Nexus. Don't want the higher-ups biting at my neck for mistreating them," the Head of the Nexus said.
In the airport of Nethrys, a young woman with neatly styled light pink hair dressed in practical yet stylish clothing blending simplicity with subtle touches of sophistication, comes walking down the stairs of the airplane. The members of the Nexus are waiting and they bow.
"Lady Ada, allow us to help you with your luggage," one of the Nexus members said.
"Thank you but we'll handle Lady Ada's luggage. You just guide us to the Trial Nexus."
{Anneliese: Guardian Knight and Attendant of Ada. Rank: B Tier (Sanctioned Noble). Skill: ???}
"R-right..."
The Nexus members guide Ada and her attendants into the limousine, they help shut the door, and they drive into the city.
"So this is the capital city of the State of Eldoria, as expected of a city of scholars. It's so refined unlike Arnhald."
{Ada Heiliger: Daughter of the Duchess of the State of Durnholde. Rank: S Tier (Divine Royal). Skill: ???}
"Lady Ada, brace because the Trial Nexus is in the mountains of Nethrys. Who knows what kind of magical beasts are there."
{Williams: Guardian Knight of Ada Heiliger. Rank: B Tier (Sanctioned noble). Skills: ???}
"Let's not forget why you decided to become an Astral Magus, my lady," Anneliese said.
"Y-yeah..."
Meanwhile, in the Jiwoo household, Kael dresses up in a black hoodie with purple stripes, black cargo pants, and black sneakers as he prepares himself for the entrance exam.
"Are you sure you want to go on with this exam?" Ms. Jiwoo questioned.
"Yeah, you don't have to worry. You'll receive a call letting you know I made it through," Kael said as he was done tying his shoelace and got to his feet. He bows before Ms. Jiwoo and adds, "Thank you for taking care of me for these past three months. I was able to experience what a mother's care felt like. I'll be sure to pay you back."
"No, you don't need to do all that. At first, I was reluctant to take care of you and only did it because I felt threatened. But as time passed, I grew fond of you. Maybe because you look like my little sister I lost 17 years," Ms. Jiwoo said and Kael just looked in silence. She adds, "You go ace this entrance exam."
Kael exclaimed with a smile, "Right."
At the same time, Eve is in her home stretching before the door as she prepares to leave. Eve's mother sees her out and she says, "You be safe out there."
"Yeah," Eve agreed with a yellow glow coming from her eyes.
All the applicants arrive at the Trial Nexus, the tower where the entrance exam will be conducted. The students murmur amongst each other as they walk down the tower's corridors. Their attention is driven away as they see a man with golden-orange hair and emerald eyes, dressed in a red royal jacket, white cape, white pants, and long black boots, walking down the hallway with two people dressed in knight armor behind him. The applicants murmur...
"Isn't that..."
"The Second Prince of the Kingdom of Nevan, Arthur Armstrong."
"My gosh, he's so cute."
Arthur looks to his right and smiles, and the girls there fold.
'Tch, why do I have to share the same room as these filthy commoners?'
{Arthur Armstrong: Second Prince of the Kingdom of Nevan and third child of the Armstrong Family. Rank: S Tier (Divine Royal). Skill: ???}
"Clear the way, clear the way."
Arthur looks and sees a woman with a white holy robe walking down as two men wearing priest clothes accompany her.
"Can't this place get any less crowded? It's like walking into an alleyway filled with rats.
{Elara Moore: Daughter of the Head of Religious Affairs. Rank: S Tier (Divine Royal). Skill: ???}
As Elara is walking watching her steps, she bumps into someone. She looks with an intense gaze and it's a man with brown skin, and dreaded hair, dressed in a black tank top to show his physique, with a grey jacket tied to his waist, grey trousers with black stripes, and black sneakers.
"Oh, sorry."
{Lucille Gallagher: Eldest Son of the Duke of Ironstead. Rank: ??? (Sanctioned noble). Skills: ???}
"I know you, you're the son of the Duke of that mining state. How dare you a lesser noble get your filthy scent on me?" Elara said with an intense gaze.
"My lady, you don't want to engage in battle with him. You know the news about the eldest son of the Gallagher household," one of her attendants said.
"Tch, you have been spared," Elara holds up her robe and walks past Lucille.
"For a daughter of a High Priestess, she doesn't seem that holy," Lucille said.
As more applicants keep arriving at the Nexus, Eve and her entourage walk through and everyone's eyes are on her. They murmur...
"Who's she?"
"She's so pretty."
"Isn't that two times Ms. Nevan winner, Eve Wilson?"
"Tch!" Elara exclaimed. She added, "Just who the hell is that commoner? She's captivating both genders. Releasing that pheromone like a harlot."
##A Greater power allows you to resist alluring presence##
As everyone is captivated by Eve's presence, Kael comes walking in with a hood on. Everyone's attention shifts to him and he's receiving intense gazes.
"What a warm welcome they have prepared for me," Kael said with a sharp gaze.
"You call this a warm welcome?" Alastair questioned.
As Kael is walking through, Eve is frozen in fear as she remembers her encounter with Kael a month ago.
"Isn't that... the cursed child Kael Voss? Why is he here?" Ada questioned.
"Talon..." Elara ordered.
"Yes, heiress."
Talon walks up to Kael and stands in his way, confronting him. They look eye to eye but Talon is slightly taller.
"Greetings to you, Outcast. My name is Talon Moore, Enforcer of the Divine laws and guardian to the heiress. I question your presence on this ground to create future Magus. As you know of the Divine laws, the Outcasts are shunned and sent to live on the fringes of society. It would be acceptable if you were at least a commoner but you don't even have an ounce of Divine Blessing. I'll ask you to leave per the law."
{Talion Moore: Guardian of the Heiress and One of the Enforcers of the Astral temple. Rank: B Tier (Sanctified noble). Skill: ???}
"You see, you lost me in the part of enforcing the law. Because the thing is, I don't give a damn, because I was never tied to the law to begin with," Kael said while showing Talon the middle finger.
"I see, looks like I'll have to force you out the hard way," Talon said as he pulled back his sleeves. He added, "Witness the strength of the Moore Family."
He swings at Kael but in the blink of an eye, Talon finds himself spinning mid-air and dropping to the floor. Everyone in the hallway is left in shock.
"Come on, Is that Moore's strength? That almost put me to sleep. There was nothing to witness at all," Kael said with a playful smirk on his face.
"You damn outcast!"
Talon releases a burst of white energy and tries to swing at Kael while Kael releases dark energy with a grin on his face, but the examiner steps, in stopping both of them.
"That's enough you two. You don't want to be disqualified," the instructor with a blindfold dressed in the instructor's tracksuit said.
Kael and Talon back off and the blindfolded man places his hands in his pockets and says, "Anyone is allowed to participate regardless of who they are. There is diversity in this place and in the Nexus, status means nothing so I hope you all can understand."
"Tch, you were spared, outcast," Talon said.
"Yeah right. You should be thankful you'll still have a hand to play with your meat," Kael provoked.
"Tch!" Talon exclaimed and walked away.
'I don't get it. He has no Astral magic and yet how can he be this confident?' the blindfolded man thought to himself. He added, "Everyone, follow me to the trial arena."
They follow the blindfolded and they end up in the Trial Arena where they're surrounded by spectators which are the Second-in-commands of the eight Wardens squad and a few instructors of the Asta Academy. The applicants murmur...
"Woah, there's quite the crowd."
"I can already feel the pressure before the exams even began."
"Aren't those the command of the top 8 Wardens?"
(There are quite the spectators here. Those seated at higher ground are the Second-in-command of the Top Wardens guild so every action is reported back to the Starlight Wardens putting pressure on the applicants as they try to make a first impression. But I don't care, because I grew up being hated by the world.)
"Greetings, applicants from all different states and cities. My name is Xander Frill, one of the Staff of the Trial Nexus. For two days we'll be conducting the annual Asta Academy entrance exam. Each day there will be two trails. For some of the youngins here, the Asta Academy isn't a high school but a trial to selecting the next Astral Magus. I'm sure that's why you noticed there are kids not of your age."
All the younger applicants look around as older applicants look down on them or look at them from a distance.
"But joining the Academy shouldn't be a problem as long as you are sixteen and above. Anyone can take these trials as long as you determine you're ready. At the stands, we have the Second-in-commands of each Warden Squad as they report every action to the Starlight Wardens. Meaning if you can perform exceptionally, you can receive a call from one of the top," Xander said.
"Woah, did you hear?" One of the Applicants murmured.
"If I'm at least in the top 5, I can join one of the top 5 like the Stormbound Arcana and Phantom Reavers," the other murmured.
"With those five royal kids here, you don't stand a chance," the third murmured.
"Well, at least I can join companies like the Celestial Forge or the Skyborne Sentinels," the female applicant murmured.
Kael is just standing amidst the chaos with his hands in his pockets with steady eyes.
"Why is the cursed child here? Does he think he stands a silver of a chance?"
{Evelyn "Tempest" Raine: Combat Medic and Second-in-Command of the Stormbound Arcana Warden Squad (Rank 1). Blessing Rank: ??? (Sanctified noble). Skill: ???}
"Well the kid's got dream. Let's leave him be."
{Kevin "Starfang" Lyric: Assassin and Second-in-Command of the Aurora Blades Warden Squad (Rank 4). Blessing Rank: ???. Skills: ???}
"It is a taboo to allow someone like him to roam around freely. Many outcasts have been sent to the edge of the Kingdom or have been locked but thanks to his grandfather's status, he's even standing amongst the Blessed. Makes me wonder who his granfather is."
{Damon "Voidflare" Kalith: Demolitions expert and Second-in-command of the Iron Wolves Warden Squad (Rank 3). Blessing Rank: ???. Skills: ???}
"Aren't you guy interested on how he has built muscles and became more handsome. Makes me feel like commiting a sin by dating."
{Eira "Frostwarden" Solvain: Defense Frontliner and Second-in-Command of the Solar Bastion (Rank 5). Blessing Rank: ???. Skills: ???}
"Focus, we debuty commanders are only here to observe the exam. We're not here to focus on one person only."
{Lyra "Dawnkeeper" Evern: Strategic Overseer and Second-in-Command of the Lumina Vanguard (Rank 2). Blessing Rank: ???. Skills: ???}
Lyra said as Kael looks at them with his hands in his pockets and wind blowing on him.
"Now, shall we proceed with the first phase of the entrance exam."
