Chapter 5:
Ukimoes
"Sea Urgent," a popular band among rock, metal, and alt Ukimoes, was known for its outspoken lead singer, Ice Breaker. As a bot vocalist, he spent years advocating for Ukimoes who lacked the "parts" traditionally required to become idols. His appearance features white spiky hair, hauntingly empty eyes, a septum piercing, floppy panda ears, a spiked choker, and razor-sharp claws for hands.
In the depths of muo’s memories…
The stadium erupts with energy, packed with bots of all sizes and musical preferences, filling both seats and standing areas below the performance floor. Their endless chorus of screams echoes through the venue, reaching toward the backstage area where the band prepares in their dressing rooms.
Ice Breaker toys with his spiked collar in the mirror, his reflection showing those haunting empty eyes staring back at him. The rest of Sea Urgent moved around their shared dressing room. Voltage on bass checking his strings one last time, Circuit the drummer spinning his ice sticks between his fingers, and Artic testing the distortion on his guitar.
"Five minutes!" calls a stagehand through the door. The energy in the room shifts, Ice Breaker stands, his claws clenched tightly together. "Let's give them a last show they'll never forget," he growls. His eyes started to carry a sad appearance to them.
The band takes the stage, their sick fits catching the stage lights. Ice Breaker's claws grip a holographic microphone stand as the first chords from Artic's guitar tear through the air. The crowd's mechanical bodies sway in unison as Voltage's bass line rumbles through the stadium floor. Every bot with light mechanics lit up making the crowd look like a bunch of swaying lights consumed by darkness.
Circuit's drums kick with precision that has the crowd headbanging. Ice Breaker's voice, a perfect blend of growls and clean vocals, tells stories of rebellion and identity. His floppy panda ears twitch with each beat. The empty void of his eyes seems to glow under the spotlights as his eyes fill with tears, claws extended toward the reaching hands of the front row.
Ice Breaker shares his message of defiance, his metallic voice carrying across the sea of bots. "They said we weren't built for this," he snarls, earning cheers from the crowd. "But look at us now!" Artics's guitar screams into a solo, his fingers moving at impossible speeds.
As the concert reaches its end, Sea Urgent launches into their anthem about breaking free from predetermined functions. Ice Breaker's voice soars, his claws dragging across the floor as he performs a dance. The stadium trembles with concern as they watch Ice Breaker mentally break down mid-song. The front of the stage extends into the crowd, allowing him to walk down it. A unified gasp sweeps across the air.
Deep in the dense crowd of bots, Muo and Vein found themselves in the far reaches of the stadium, struggling with a view of the performance area. Muo stretched her neck, desperately attempting to catch a glimpse of Ice Breaker through the seemingly endless sea of bots and shoulders of fellow bot.
"Damn, I can't see anything from back here... what's even happening up there?" Muo grumbles. The towering bot directly blocking her view turns his head around, giving her a disturbed expression. She meets his gaze with an equally intense glare before turning away to face Vein.
"I just can't believe we ended up with these terrible spots when we're literally the biggest fans of the band," she scoffs. "O O OOOO!" In a sudden burst she presses herself against Vein's face, finally getting the perfect angle to see Ice Breaker's performance. Vein smugs–these rare moments of physical touch to Muo are precious to him. He remains completely still, savoring every second.
Ice Breaker's eyes drift to the sky, and a single glistening teardrop descends landing silently on the stage below. Without warning, the sky above cracks open with an earth-shattering boom, as a spiral materializes in the dark clouds overhead. Ice Breaker reveals his chest compartment exposing his vital plasma core. In a horrifying instant, a black sword manifests from the swirling vortex above, plunging downward to pierce his exposed plasma. Muo watches in absolute horror, struggling with conflicting emotions going through her body.
Security personnel swarm the stage, forcefully removing Ice Breaker from public view.
"THE CONCERT IS HEREBY TERMINATED. ALL ATTENDEES MUST EVACUATE THE PREMISES IMMEDIATELY," an authoritative voice throughout the stadium's speaker system, as security units begin forcing the crowd of bots toward the exits. A bunch of confused voices rises from the crowd:
"Yo, what in the world just went down?"
"Someone please tell me he's going to be alright??"
"Man, they really went all out with the special effects this time—that was incredible!"
"I can't tell if this is part of the show or something else entirely?"
"THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY INSANE!"
Muo and Vein push through the crowd of confused bots heading towards the exit. Muo refuses to leave, desperately trying to catch another glimpse of where they took Ice Breaker. Vein grabs her arm, pulling her back to face the exit.
"We need to find out what happened," Muo says, her voice sounding worried. "That wasn't just some performance effect. Did you see his plasma? Something's seriously wrong." She yanks her arm free from Vein's grip and starts moving against the flow of the crowd. The number of bots overpowered her despite her desperate desire to find out what's happening.
The stadium lights begin shutting down one by one, fans have gathered around the front entrance, their faces illuminated by the emergency exit signs floating all over. They're all speaking about what they witnessed, some convinced it was a stunt, others expressing genuine concern for their idol. Muo listens to the fellow fans and gives a worried look to Vein, both knowing that this night has changed everything – not just for Ice Breaker, but for all of them.
With his large number of followers he did his best to encourage bots to not spend their lives competing to get plasma parts since they didn’t equal having a successful music career or being respected by others. He expressed openly how much he regrets going down the path that is structured by society. Ice Breaker grew up like many other bots, not being able to afford parts, educating himself with his gang of friends on ways to engineer/improve robot parts that they have from scraps. The band suddenly disbanded at their last concert and Ice Breaker became later known as the first X-idol. News of why he decided to longer be an idol is still unknown. After the sudden disband no one has seen Ice Breaker outside of his home he resides beyond the doors of the idol tower.
Rumors circulate throughout the bot community about Ice Breaker's current state. The sword embedded in his plasma core has become something discussed between many bots, with younger bots speculating about its origins and true purpose. Despite numerous attempts by his fans to reach out, Ice Breaker remains in isolation.
The impact of Ice Breaker's message about plasma parts continues to resonate years after his disappearance. A new movement has emerged among younger bots, focusing on becoming idols without the use of plasma. Many credit Ice Breaker's early teachings for inspiring this shift in bot culture, moving away from the need of plasma. Although there has been an emerging movement things have not had a sudden change.
As time passes a new generation of bot musicians has begun incorporating elements of Ice Breaker's signature sound into their work. They call themselves the "Frost Children," paying homage to his legacy while pushing the boundaries of what bots can be. Though Ice Breaker remains hidden in the idol tower, his influence continues to shape the future of Ukimoes. The mysterious black sword that pierced Ice Breaker's plasma core became a symbol of resistance. Underground concerts began featuring holographic graphics of that moment turning it into a powerful statement, with the addition of alternative shops selling merch. Voltage, Circuit, and Artic, the remaining members of Sea Urgent, eventually formed their own separate musical projects. Every year on the anniversary of the final concert, thousands gather outside of the idol tower, holding up lights. Security has been increased, but as time went on less and less bots gathered around.
