Chapter 16:
Accept What is Given
Iwan, Agatha, and Bayu are on good terms with Indra, so they are reluctant to openly confront Indra's future policy. At least for now, they decided to see how the election played out and wait for the land utilization commandment to be enacted. Bayu's still toiling in front of his sewing machine. Sure, it's automatic, but Indra still does the finishing touch with both hands and machines. No wonder his products are expensive compared to machine-made products.
"Let the machine handle this flap here and insert these buttons. All that's left is to use this 3D printer to make and control the pattern by hand. Each Kebaya has different patterns; it sure is fun to do, and I earn loads of money. But seriously, what's my client thinking?"
Agatha spends her day off watching movies, mostly from his 700-movie 'watch later' list. Every month, 5-8 extra movies are added to the playlist, and 3-6 movies are removed.
"Let's see if there's a movie I want to watch on the Bajak Sawah site… Nice! Let's get started! Ayu, if the election result is out, please inform me."
"Yes, master, though I must say… please stop watching pirated movies."
"Unfortunately, most of the movies on my 'watch later' list are unavailable in the library, archive, or even streaming services. You know that most of the movies I watched are extremely old, right?"
"Of course, but please refrain from such action if the movie you want to watch is available on a library, archive, or streaming service. Is that okay?"
"Yes, Ayu… Now, please turn off the light, and let's watch this movie together!"
"It brings me joy to serve such a cheerful master. A privilege denied by so many of my kin."
"Put a smile on your face, Ayu! The movie is starting!"
Iwan healed another 10 patients today while listening to the news. Sunlight showers his body like an enlightened friar in a white T-shirt, a headband, and a sarong. No election result was seen from the clear bucket of salt water until its demise on the sewage pipes. To waste time during a hot and humid afternoon, Iwan wants a bowl of bakso, which is a good choice, not to mention the sloth's grip on Iwan's legs is potent and his desire to go outside. The policy of no refrigerant-based air conditioners in this region is a real pain. He's still stuck on a pressure cooker despite opening all windows and turning on the van. Luckily, his order arrived. A bowl of bakso with rice and egg noodles. 10 tiny floating meatballs accompanied by a hill of noodles and clear broth. The sensation of monosodium glutamate flushed his mouth with a meatball and some noodles—an excellent taste of today's flawless lunch. Just as the last meatball entered his mouth, the election results came from different regions.
"the election result for Special Administrative Region of Yogyakarta. Number one, Aris Pambudi Gregah Sentosa and Agus Prasetya… 12 percent! Number two, Heru Sucipto and Aiman Karim Pratama… 21 percent! Number three, Ngadiyem and Tinuk Mulyani… 20 percent! Number four, Indra Purnamasidhi and Ayu the Droid… 57 percent! We congratulate Indra Purnamasidhi and Ayu the Droid for being the new governor of the Special Administrative Region of Yogyakarta. May God bless us all."
The trio would've been celebrating this epic moment if they hadn't found out about Indra's plan. Right now, they accept the result, chill, and get back to work. Indra gave a speech in front of the General Elections Commission's office, standing on equal grounds with spectators and media crews.
"Good evening, everyone; first of all, I would like to thank God for his benevolent blessings. Thank you to every voter for your participation in this election. Thank you for putting your faith and support in me and Ayu. Thank you, General Elections Commission, for providing accurate real-time data of both quick count and real count of the election. Thank you to the election crews who work day and night, recapitulating votes and turning them into user-friendly diagrams. As we have promised in our campaigns and debates with other candidates, we will toil for this region's development for the next 5 years. We have grabbed the baton stick; let us continue the relay race of reformation! For those worried about changes in the status quo, I assure all of you it will not happen. We will continue the reform as our predecessor has done before us. We also wish your continuous support to the reformation, and let's make this region the beacon of ideal civilization for Indonesia, no, for the entire world! Thank you… Ayu, it's your turn now. You can do it!"
"thank you, Indra; you know you could just whisper to me, right? Hehehe… Good evening, everyone; since most of my materials are used up by Indra, I guess I have to start this with a poem:
Pitik walik saba kebon
Pitik walik saba meja
Para sedherek sedaya matur nuwun
Sampun nyengkuyung kula lan Indra
Okay, that's the only poem I can think of… Um… I'm sorry, I'm a bit nervous. I should have asked for my friend's experience as a former major of Tidore… Um… Uh… Governing such an important region with its distinct policies and cultures is a tremendous challenge. But you have bestowed upon us a great responsibility. There are doubts about whether I can do a great job, think the same as a human should think, make humane decisions, create decisive and potent policies, and have a heart. I can comprehend what a heart is and implement it in myself. But I find it hard to explain this thing to other people. But have no worries; even with my status as an A.I. virtual assistant and a humanoid droid, I will do everything in my power to protect this region's uniqueness. That is my vow to all of you. Thank you."

"Nice speech, Indra and Ayu. Please don't make all three of your friends regret this decision to vote for you. I still have faith that your meeting with that Windu guy is just a way to expose them and put them on trial. Please don't make me regret convincing Bayu and Agatha to vote for you… Please…”
Notes:
Sarong: A long piece of cloth worn wrapped around the body and tucked at the waist.
Ayu's poem is called Parikan in Javanese. The first two lines are riddles as the opening, and the other two as the main message. This is the translation:
Pitik walik saba kebon
(A) chicken is upside down in the garden (answer: pineapple)
Pitik walik saba meja
(A) chicken is upside down on the table (answer: feather duster)
Para sedherek sedaya matur nuwun
Thank you everyone
Sampun nyengkuyung kula lan Indra
