Be ahead of their time, by staying behind

I spent the whole night talking to my mom. I have never spent that much time talking to her. I really should talk to my parents more from now on...

Mom told the story of how after they met, my parents decided to move in together. They even came up with the idea of having a child together through conventional pregnancy. But instead of grabbing the 'Ascensions' that would equip them with the essential knowledge of how to raise a child 21st-22nd century style, they decided to learn it themselves. They travelled to the past once again, spent years making observations, but this time not of any major event, but of everyday life. The everyday life of regular people, of couples, of familes, of parents, of children,... They then picked up doing chores themselves, instead of relying on 'modern' technology or 'Ascensions', from getting groceries, cooking, cleaning, to driving cars,... everything

I never realized how amazing my parents are. It's ironic that they were ahead of their time, by staying behind everyone else. But that will soon be changed. Dad told me 'the school system hasn't had many changes recently', but that's not true, i finally get it. The school system is also changing. They're adjusting the limitation of students' access to 'high-technology', letting us have an 'ordinary life'

Dad also said back in his day the kids always looked like they had their own businesses, now that i think about it, it might have been due to the specialized classes. I think? Students used to be able to either take classes based on their interests, or just took general subjects. Naturally almost nobody went for the general subjects, looking back on it, i think they were just like me... Their biggest interest was probably the stuff they could do as an adult, so they took the easiest classes available for them. I mean... I would have too, if i was given a choice not to learn English or biology, I like history though. Nobody was made to study math or literature, because society didn't need an engineer nor a teacher, i think...? But even if it did, anybody could take the 'Ascensions' required for the job anyway. Nobody needed to make an effort in school, and therefore nobody needed to make friends in school... The 'Ascensions' was there to help everybody, anybody. And if you had a desire that was against the law or physically impossible, the Simulacrum pod came in clutch, it's an old innovation sure, but since nobody had any 'duty' anymore, you could spend full time dreaming about whatever. Dreaming about whatever, even creating your own friends...


Huh, i was able to theorize all that...

'Create your own friends'. I don't think the kids at my school will need to do that, most of them get all chummy with their classmates. I mean it's a good thing... I could see myself being one of those kids, i'm just a little shy. You don't see me ever talking to any of them? Well, i guess, don't i already have you? You're my best companion after all

I shouldn't be relying on you, you say? I guess it's true that I'm one of the few students at school who plays alone with their companion bots......Is this why they made you require charging to function in the first place?

What? You want me to leave you at home, so i couldn't depend on you for the entirety of the school day? And then i could try to muster the courage to talk to my classmates...?You're really serious about it? Alright... I'll do as you said. I suppose it will indeed be better for me this way but.. just for this time okay?
