Chapter 3:
The Robot That Caught The Human Disease
Yui huffed and puffed, getting further and further away from the factory as fast as she can. She broke one of the sacred rules. She smiled as air fanned her face, running down the empty clearing at a fast pace. A part of her was scared because she did something unusual, out of the routine she was used too, but a part of her enjoyed her temporary sense of freedom.
This was the world she wanted to see. She took in the appearance in a blur. Even though she can't see properly, the world was so vibrant and enchanting. There were colours she only knew about in books when she needed to study. Being born in the factory three years ago meant she only saw white and black. There were barely any other colors. It was almost blinding and hurting.
She rubbed her eyes and wanted to stop running but if she did, everyone would notice she escaped so she couldn't afford any mistakes from the start. As she kept going ahead, she reached the road's iron path and the moment she stepped on it, a gush of air pummeled her up before she fell right down. Her face planted right in-between; legs hang on the edge. What just happened? She groaned as she stood right up, the moment she did, her feet swung back and forth as they tried to regain balance, hovering in the air before she fell once again. Whatever was making her float, she didn't know how to use it. Her feet shook as she tried to maintain balance, her feet going back and forth as she wanted to return back to the stable footpath.
"What's a human doing down there?"
At the sound of a new voice, Yui snapped her head upward, looking for the source. A type B, version 1 Symbotic, on an air force motorcycle, changed its emoticon into a "?" mark. It slowly lowered the government bike. "Are you lost?"
"Where? Where is the human!" Yui looked around excitedly behind her, looking for the human. This was going to be her first time seeing one outside of reading about them.
Except... She was the only one out here. She scratched her head in confusion. Did this robot think she was human? She didn't think of a plan when she left the factory but usually, they weren't allowed past ten in the morning so it must have thought she was human.
She and the robot looked each other eye to eye... "I am human."
"I'm not sure about that anymore."
"No! No! I'm really human. Look! Look!" She showed off the white plain gown she grabbed in a hurry while she was leaving. "Do you see the human clothes?"
"Humans don't wear that."
Really? She looked down at her clothes. She grabbed anything that didn't make her easily identifiable.
"Okay, how about this? Look how smoothly I move?" She started to walk around the clearing back and forth because she knew Tybe B didn't walk like her. "Very human-like."
She was always complimented for the lack of bounce in her movement. She spread her arms outward as if she was saying she proved her point. The Symbotic narrowed its eyes. She glided on the ground, started to pop and lock, trying to show how good her movement was.
"No human has to prove they are human," The Symbotic muttered sarcastically. Yui just stared at it in silence. They had a stare off before it became a bit skeptical. "But if not human, what else would you be?"
"Exactly what I'm saying." Yui nodded aggressively, hand on her hips. It seemed to resign to the poorly made explanation and in that moment, she thought it took some of the human mannerism. "You do realize the AI factory is above, all the way there? You are not supposed to be here so would you like a ride back to the city?"
"Yes please." The Symbotic turned the vehicle around and Yui hopped up to the bike to take a seat in the back.
"Let's go to the city!" She declared dramatically. The ride to the city was exhilarating. She usually doesn't read about the world. She knew basic things like how buildings looked, how cars looked but she didn't really know beyond the pictures in the book. "Woah~ it looks beautiful."
Floating cars and bikes were rushing by. In each car, the system monitors the movement of every vehicle nearby, synchronizing the routes.
"Where do you want to go?" The Symbotic asked.
"I want to go to Haruto Nakamura." Yui simply said as if he was supposed to know who that is.
"Due to the breach of privacy, strict measures have been implemented to prevent sharing any personal information about someone without their explicit consent, ends-" Yui lived with Type A and B since she was young, so she interrupted before hearing the rest of the answer.
"Is there any information I can find about him that's in the public domain?" Yui tried to switch up her tactics. She needed at least some lead to start with. It will be harder to find him when she has no access to any data past the year 2050.
"There is no information about Haruto Nakamura." Yui's head dropped in disappointment. "However, the Nakamura Family is a renowned household celebrated worldwide for their revolutionary contributions to the medical field. For 20 generations, they have been pioneers in innovative treatments and groundbreaking research. His father, Hanzo Nakamura, built on his legacy by founding Cyber 1001 System. Individuals and organizations alike strive to align with them, seeking recognition and favor as a symbol of prestige and influence."
Yui was surprised she was getting information about his family rather than him. The air whiplashed her hair to her face as they passed through multiple skyscrapers underneath. "What is that they do?"
"They own the whole system of the city."
Yui looked around at the translucent blue dome that is wrapped around the city. As she looked around, she saw something beyond, that looked like another dome. "So... They probably hold the entire authority of Type A in this country."
"This is correct."
Yui didn't expect them to be so influential. Even though she didn't know how to find Haruto Nakamura, finding him will be a lot easier than she thought. Yui smiled. It's her lucky day!
