Chapter 50:
Abyss of evolution
The battle against the forces of Darkness Izanami has come to an end. For now. However, the world has changed greatly and will never be the same again. The rift in the center of Tokyo has opened the gates of evolution, and the Abyss has turned into a sea lake, and still holds the unknown.
The core formed as a result of the explosion of the "soul of the planet" — Magmatama — illuminated the water, hiding the ongoing transformations throughout its depths. It was still to be found out what living organisms got there and what this could lead to in the future. A powerful laser stream that pierced the Moon melted the mirror of Haku, supported by Yomi. And the cold sea water cooled the mirror to a crystalline state, sealing the lake.
Many who died during the war and long before it was resurrected by the power of Izanami, and the world didn’t know what to do with them. Are they the same people who were before? Have they retained their personalities? Are they dangerous and should they be mercifully put to sleep? Or are they the same as the rest of us?
The only thing that was clear was that time was needed to find answers to all the questions, and time also began to "flow" differently, as the Earth's rotation accelerated and the planet was engulfed in cataclysms: forest fires broke out everywhere, lithospheric plates broke out and devastating earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and typhoons raged.
An unexpected effect of the radiation from the Abyss of Evolution was the beneficial mutations in living organisms, including humans. People with superpowers appeared: some had enhanced regeneration, helping them survive fatal wounds from cataclysms, some became stronger, regulating muscle mass, others became hard as stone. Everything came from the characteristics of each person, their own body and mind. Where to direct it - to save and help others, self-development or to seize resources and use power to the maximum - everyone decided for themselves, changing the world with their own will.
The previous world order was destroyed to the ground. Almost everyone could learn another language quickly enough, destroying the interethnic barrier and the myth of the Tower of Babel. And partial reading of thoughts and perception of collective consciousness enhanced the effect. But the political struggle for power and unification of various groups only changed the form, which still needed to be finally formed.
Myths about gods also ceased to be just myths, acquiring real outlines, although science couldn’t yet find an answer to everything that happened. But those who were in the epicenter of the battle understood that everything happened by the will of the people themselves, even if they were under the influence of an unknown force.
Resurrected after the events inside the Abyss, Miku and Toshi were examined in the mobile medical center of the Sun Guardians. It was temporarily concluded that they were "all right." Izanami used the parts of their bodies that were preserved in the sea of Lilith's blood and were restored almost perfectly.
"Miku!" Keshita called out to her. "A-are you okay?.."
"The doctors said, 'more or less', haha…" She smiled strangely. "But Toshi and I’ll be closely monitored."
"I'm glad you're safe… I was so worried that after Izanami's effects… I’d have to…"
"Are you still so sensitive?"
"And are you so arrogant?"
"Toshi!" Itsuki ran by. "How are you?"
"I'm okay… I think…" Buki said sadly. "But… but! Jan…"
They honored the memory of their fallen comrade, thanks to whom they were able to survive and save the world.
"M-Mellow!?" Itsuki was surprised, noticing Fumiko coming out of the medical center. "Are you okay?"
"We're not on a mission anymore, so Fumiko is fine… Yes, although I vaguely remember the recent events… Izanami hid me deep in my subconscious, and then… I saw a bright light and felt the heat and my brother's hands… Thank you, Takeshi."
"At least I was good for something." He approached his sister, hugged her and whispered in her ear, jokingly. "But I'm still tormented by doubts, am I Takeshi or Keshita."
"Takeshi, of course!" Kamiko joined the family hug. "My beloved brother Takeshi! Always beloved even these long decades of absence!"
"No, he's Keshita!" Miku was indignant, putting her hands out to her sides and sticking out her chest.
"I'll have to get used to two names…" He laughed awkwardly, and then suddenly remembered. "Where's Ningen? Have you seen his head? I left it with Yomi, but…"
"I'll have to look at the Sarcophagus. I hope it survived." Kamiko was also worried.
"I was just informed that all of Mukibutsu's people were detained, they’ll undergo a thorough check." Fumiko shared.
"What about… Ami and Yomi?"
Keshita asked anxiously, when suddenly everyone fell silent, their heads bowed.
"She jumped into the Abyss, sacrificing her entire essence."
Kamiko, who was nearby at that moment, answered.
"I couldn't do anything. At that moment, Izanami… resurrected our parents right in front of me."
"What!?" Keshita and Fumiko were surprised at the same time.
"And not only that, other relatives and even friends from the past… I couldn't save them, because they were just a shell created by Izanami, but they spoke like…"
"Alive…" Keshita continued.
"And then there was a ray of light…"
"Before that, my parents visited me along with Miku."
Keshita and Kamiko noticed how their sister had drooped.
"They were asking about you!" They said at the same time.
The guys suddenly fell silent, honoring the memory of Miyata's parents, the heads of their organization.
"Tsukiyami Ami and Yomi, Takagi Jan, Liliya Lokman, Mikhail Sozontov… so many deaths." Keshita was angry either at his own powerlessness, or at Izanami, or at the whole world.
"As for the first two, it's not that simple, because they were demigods, like Sanno, by the way." Fumiko doubted it. "Although what exactly God means is something we still have yet to understand."
"We couldn't find him either." Kamiko confirmed.
"God?" Keshita joked.
"Sanno! Stupid brother…"
"I thought I was the beloved one!"
"The properties of the Abyss will also need to be investigated. It’s unknown exactly what happened to Ami inside." Fumiko continued. "…and Yomi could have retained consciousness in the Sarcophagus plates, although they were fused into a single mass. The microcircuits might not have survived…"
"Lily…" Miku decided to share sadly. "I managed to talk to her a little in the Abyss and read her thoughts. Her original body died back in Moscow…"
"It seemed to me that her copy died without regrets with the ring on her finger." Kamiko added.
"The Internet has been restored!" Itsuki announced. "It seems that Mikhail voluntarily "surrendered" and is ready to cooperate with the new authorities. They plan to continue their research, but under strict control and for the benefit of their rebellious society."
"So, he survived after all!" Keshita didn't know whether to be happy or upset. "And it seems he achieved his goal…"
"However, it's too early to celebrate victory. Tokyo and all of Japan are in chaos, there's still too much work to do. Right now, I need to help the Sun Guardians return SAI to US control." Fumiko said goodbye.
"And Ningen's head!" Kamiko repeated.
"We'll stay in touch!" Fumiko left them.
"B-brother!" Kamiko stayed for a while. "I'm… incredibly happy that I was finally able to find you."
"I know. And I'm happy that I found myself, you - my beloved sisters, and other wonderful people." Keshita was suddenly moved. "But Fumiko is right, we need to take care of the consequences first."
"I can't wait for our next meeting! And with you, the future daughter-in-law of the Miyata family!" Kamiko waved her hand, running after her sister. "But I'm not saying goodbye!"
"W-what!?" Miku blushed.
"She's joking! She's always been like this…" Keshita tried to calm her down.
Itsuki and Toshi went after Kamiko.
"Good luck to you!" Itsuki was being ironic.
"See you later!" Toshi was saying goodbye.
"Keshita… but now you really have to marry me, like a decent man!"
"W-what!?" Keshita blushed, looking at Miku rushing forward.
"Like in the fairy tale about Sleeping Beauty, you kissed me… twice."
"So you remember everything… I guess I’ve no choice."
Tamiya caught up with Aoki and suddenly took her hand, she even turned around in surprise, although she should have started getting used to it. The romantic moment was slightly spoiled by the sound of rumbling coming from their stomachs.
"Haha, these have been busy days!" Keshita commented laughingly. "…that I forgot to eat again."
"I know a pretty good cafe in this… area, if it's still standing, of course."
"Kami-sama! I'm ready to eat anything right now!"
"Eh?" Miku was very surprised.
"Ah! Don't get the wrong idea… We're still humans, right?"
The two of them set off to find the cafe, heatedly discussing what had happened and trying to process it.
