Chapter 16:
Colorful Gray World Vol. 1
It was 12:52 AM when we all got together.
"Ready for another crazy adventure?"
I asked sarcastically.
"You know it!"
They both said in unison.
"And, um... What is "she" doing here?"
Ko pointed at Masami.
"Well, I told her that it was stupid for her to hide from us when we know she's here with us."
"Ah, that makes sense!"
Masami turned toward her.
"Pretend like I'm not here."
"That would be pretty hard..."
The idiot of the group grimaced.
"Anyway, let's go in already!"
I ushered them inside.
"Wow, this school is like 20 years old!"
The school was in a pretty bad condition. The main hall floor was filed with large holes, that probably led down to the basement, the school's flag was still hanging on the wall, but its colors seemed faded. The classroom doors were the old styled wooden push doors, which were rotten and destroyed.
"This place looks like straight out of a horror movie."
Ko commented.
"Good thing I bought flashlights with me."
Masato turned on his flashlight and gave us each one (except for Masami).
"Thanks!"
"You see, Noboru! I always think ahead!"
"Yeah, yeah. Only about smaller things."
I joked with him.
"Mm..."
"Please, stop acting like a toddler."
With our antics stopped, we all started searching for any indicators on where to go.
"Hey! There are stairs here!"
Masato and I turned around the corner, to see Ko sitting on the stairs.
"You probably shouldn't sit on them. The concrete is cold."
"You worry too much, Noboru."
Ko got up and walked up the steps.
"It's weird to see stairs these days. Almost everywhere I go, I see escalators."
"People didn't have that much money to make them everywhere, K-"
I cut myself off, when the stairs beneath my feet fall through the ground.
"AH!"
The fall wasn't that long, but when I landed on my back, I thought I heard some of my bones break.
"Noboru! Are you alright?"
The both of them screamed.
"Y-Yeah, just probably hurt my back a bit. Maybe even broke something."
As I tried to get up, I felt my lower back aching.
"GH! I think I broke a bone in my lower back."
"Can you stand up?"
Ko feared.
Looking around, I found a long metal pipe, which I grab, and tried to prop myself up.
"I barely can. With the help of this pipe."
"Hold on. We're coming down."
Ruffling of Masato's bag can be heard.
"No, don't! You should continue on without me."
"Are you the crazy one now?! What if something attacks you?!"
It was weird to hear Masato say this to me.
"I'll be fine! I have my Shock Gun."
I held up the weapon.
"Shock Gun?"
Shock Gun's existence was not known, so I don't blame them for not knowing.
"One of the prototypes that my parents made. They were innovators in the free time."
"One of?"
"Yeah, there were many. This gun shots out a large amount of condensed electrical energy in a shape of a ball. It is similar to the taser I used yesterday."
"I don't know, Noboru... Ko and I are worried that you may have hurt something else beside your lower back."
"Just trust me! I'll go find a way up to you, while you explore the school."
I was accompanied by whispers of the two above me, before they looked down towards me.
"Alright, but here, take this."
A little silver box was dropped, and I caught it.
"It's that portable emergency call thingy that was on sale."
I put it in my pocket.
"Thanks. It must've been expensive."
"Not that much. With Ko, I think I could buy the whole store."
Masato laughed.
"I won't fund you anymore, if you keep saying things like."
"That's just a joke... Sheesh..."
A loud scream echoed down in the basement.
"What the heck?!"
My body was shaking in fear.
"That's it. We're coming to get you!"
The white haired comedian tried to find his rope.
"No way..."
Disbelief could be heard in his voice.
"I... I forgot to bring the rope..."
"What?!"
Ko started yelling at him.
What should I do now? They have no way to get to me, and there is a person down here... Now that I look around, this place looks creepy as hell.
There were a lot of broken chairs and tables, all broken and thrown around. The wall was white, with some decades old graffities on it.
"No escape... He sees everything... This is probably to scare people."
Another scream made me jump. The pain from my lower back erupted.
"That was closer than the last one..."
Soon, I began to tremble.
"You should run!"
Looking up, Masato and Ko stopped bickering.
It looks like the scream made them realize that this is not the time.
"Okay! I'll see you later!"
With that, I started running in the opposite direction of the scream, but as I was injured, I wasn't as fast as normally.
Breath... 1... 2... 3...
"Hah..."
My heart beat too fast, so I couldn't catch my breath.
"GRA!"
This time the scream was closer. I tried to look behind me, and then...
"AHH!"
There was a thing, that looked like a human, but its hands were longer, and his neck snapped to the side. It was sprinting towards me.
I'm dead!
Tears were coming out of my eyes.
"GOD PLEASE HELP!"
I kept on running, and the monster slowly got closer, as time went on.
Any door? Exit? Crack in the wall? Space to hide?
The thing almost caught me, before I saw a door at the end of the hallway.
"PLEASE!!!"
Praying for my life, I make one last dash.
"GR!!! COME ON!!!"
"GRA!"
With the thing a few inches away from me, I jumped through the doorway, and the thing collided with the wall above the door, falling on its back.
"Huh, hah..."
I stopped to get a breath and compose myself.
"This was probably the scariest day of my life..."
I looked down.
"I have to change my underwear and pants..."
