Chapter 10:

The Fall of the Betrayer

The Exiled Explorer

The thick steel door slammed shut with a loud, echoing sound, resonating through the underground facility buried far beneath the surface. William, Alya,, and Khadija stood before the door, each of them harboring mixed emotions: vigilance, anxiety, and determination blending into a single moment. They had come too far to turn back now, and they knew the consequences if they failed.

“This is it,” William said, his voice low but firm. He stared at the towering door, feeling the chill air seeping through its edges.

“Make sure we don’t get trapped inside,” Alya warned, her eyes scanning the hallway around them. “The enemy must’ve set up traps.”

Khadija, who had been calm earlier, now showed tension on her face. “I’ll handle the troops outside. You two get in there and make sure the weapon is destroyed. We don’t have much time.”

“Don’t worry,” William replied with a faint smile, though his heart felt heavy. “We’ll be quick.”

With swift, cautious movements, William pressed the panel next to the door. It opened with a grating noise. The sight inside was nothing like they’d imagined. Instead of a cutting-edge facility, they were met with chaos and disrepair. Black Luminaris Crystals lined the glass cases, but the space lacked the sterile, organized appearance of a high-tech research lab they had anticipated.

“This is strange,” Alya murmured, her eyes darting around. “All of this... something feels off.”

“There’s something we’re not seeing,” William concluded, staring uneasily at the Black Luminaris Crystals. Though dormant, the weapon exuded an aura he couldn’t quite describe. “We need to destroy it before the enemy uses it.”

---

They moved deeper into the facility, their steps measured and careful. The central area resembled a massive, neglected laboratory, with advanced equipment scattered and abandoned.

In the middle of the room, they found a large table connected to a device that appeared to link directly to the Black Luminaris Crystals. Here, they uncovered traces of Dr. Azhar—the betrayer who had controlled this facility from the shadows.

Suddenly, the sharp sound of a door slamming open shattered the silence. Dr. Azhar appeared, standing with a sinister smile behind his thick glasses. His pale face contrasted starkly with the dangerous aura emanating from the Black Luminaris Crystals.

“So, you’ve arrived,” he said, his voice cold. “I’ve been expecting you.”

William raised an eyebrow, realizing there was no longer any chance of avoiding confrontation. “So, you’re the one responsible for all of this?” His voice was heavy with anger.

“Ah, of course,” Dr. Azhar replied, stepping closer to the table where the crystals lay. “I created this weapon—the one that will destroy the world as you know it.”

“This weapon? What are you planning to do?” Alya demanded sharply.

Dr. Azhar chuckled, his laughter tinged with madness. “This isn’t just a weapon to destroy your city. It’s the key to controlling all the Luminaris resources in the world. With the Black Luminaris, I will have limitless power.”

Alya stepped forward, ready to act. “You won’t be able to control it.”

“Don’t be so sure,” Dr. Azhar replied, his tone laced with confidence. “I’ve been planning this for years. Nothing can stop me now.”

In a swift motion, Dr. Azhar pressed a button on the device connected to the Black Luminaris Crystals. Instantly, the crystals began to emit an eerie black light. A massive surge of energy shook the room, creating tremors that made the floor feel as though it might collapse.

“Don’t let him activate it!” William shouted, lunging forward.

But before they could act further, Dr. Azhar’s troops emerged from the shadows, surrounding them with weapons drawn. They were trapped.

---

William, Alya, and Khadija now found themselves in a situation far more perilous than they had anticipated. The Black Luminaris Crystals, which were supposed to be the key to their victory, had become their greatest threat.

Dr. Azhar raised his hand, signaling his forces to hold them back. “Did you really think you could stop what I’ve started? This is just the beginning.”

William gritted his teeth, struggling to remain calm despite the mounting tension. “We can still stop this. We just need time.”

“Exactly,” Alya said, her gaze fixed firmly on Dr. Azhar. “We won’t let you win.”

But with the energy of the Black Luminaris coursing through the room, it was becoming clear that their time was quickly running out.
