Chapter 22:
The Exiled Explorer
The confrontation in the research room was nearly inevitable. Prince Alim, standing calmly before William and Khadija, gestured for his soldiers to advance. The atmosphere was thick with tension, the air almost still, as everyone assessed the increasingly complex situation.
“Don’t misunderstand, Khadija,” Prince Alim said, his voice full of pride and ambition. “I’m only doing what’s necessary to protect this kingdom. The Luminaris crystal is our future. I won’t allow anyone, including you, to destroy it.”
Khadija furrowed her brow, her expression turning cold. “Protecting the kingdom by ruining the future of the entire world? Is that what you’re doing, Alim? This crystal isn’t just an energy source, it’s a massive threat. You don’t understand what you’re trying to control.”
Prince Alim smirked slightly, seemingly unfazed. “I know more than you think. Luminaris has been used by our ancestors to maintain power. Why stop now just because you fear its potential?”
William felt the tension rise, but he knew that if they didn’t act quickly, everything could descend into chaos. “What do you want, Prince?” he asked, his voice firm. “You want to control everything, but there won’t be a kingdom left if you keep playing with fire.”
“Then you’ll play with fire as well,” Prince Alim replied, gesturing to two soldiers who began to move forward.
William felt the heat rise in his back. He looked at Alya, who stood beside Khadija, her face serious, ready to face whatever came their way. Alya had long known how dangerous the game Prince Alim was playing was. The Luminaris crystal could be either a weapon or a savior, depending on who controlled it.
But before anything could happen, Khadija moved quickly. She stepped forward, her gaze fixed firmly on Prince Alim.
“If you want war, Alim, then war we’ll have. But remember, strength isn’t always about having the biggest weapon,” Khadija said, her eyes blazing with determination.
Prince Alim laughed softly. “You still believe in this truth, Khadija? The world has changed. And I will change it faster than you can imagine.”
Khadija raised her hand, signaling for William and Alya to step back. “No, William. This is not the path we’ve chosen.”
William was confused but eventually followed Khadija’s command, stepping back. Alya followed quickly and silently.
“Then, what do we do now?” William asked, his voice full of bewilderment.
Khadija sighed deeply. “We will fight our way, stabilize Luminaris, not control it.”
But before they could move further, there was a loud cracking sound above them. Everyone looked up, their eyes widening as they saw a large object made of crystal floating above them.
“What is that?” William asked, shocked.
“That’s a more dangerous tool than you think,” Khadija answered, her voice laced with concern. “That’s Alim’s way of harnessing the power of Luminaris without caring about the consequences.”
The massive crystal hung in the air, glowing in a dark purple hue, and it seemed to be stabilizing itself. It looked as though the device had been designed to manipulate the energy from the Luminaris crystal and turn it into a more aggressive form.
“If that activates, the entire city could be destroyed,” Khadija continued seriously. “And not just this city—the world itself will be harmed.”
Alya watched the device warily. “Is there any way to stop it?”
Khadija bit her lip, looking at the device with worry. “If we don’t stop it now, we’ll lose more than we realize.”
William turned, his eyes flashing with firm resolve. “I’ll do it. I won’t let Luminaris fall into the wrong hands. We have to destroy that device before it’s too late.”
However, Prince Alim was already moving too quickly. With a wave of his hand, he signaled for his elite forces to protect the device. They lined up, weapons ready, blocking the path of William and the others.
“No one can stop me,” Prince Alim shouted. “Don’t even try.”
William stood tall, meeting Prince Alim’s gaze with unwavering determination. “I won’t back down,” he said, his voice low but filled with strength.
The battle was unavoidable, and the choice was now in their hands. Would William, Khadija, and Alya succeed in stopping Prince Alim and preventing a greater catastrophe? Or would they be caught in an inescapable game of power?
