Chapter 16:
SOVEREIGN: Plague of the first fragment
Life slowly drifts into my mind, I stumble out of the chamber covering my eyes from the sudden change in brightness, as I regain control of my body everything began coming back to me, Ethernamhall, my objective, and my creator's betrayal. Once my senses normalized I finally see what's in front of me, a human. They bear no hostility towards me that much I could tell, but why? One of them steps forward, bowing slightly before speaking,
“It's an honor to meet you, O great Sovereign,” The man speaks, this only confused me further. I was no Sovereign, no, but…Perhaps it would work in my favor if I was. I covered myself up with the clothes given to me by the human, I was in an old Ethernamhall containment unit, I turned my head back to see the panel for my pod had lost power, meaning someone else freed me. Having just woken it seems some of my system functions are inactive, I try to speak. “...Your…Name..?” The words slowly form as the man eagerly listens before addressing himself, “ My name is Howard, Vice leader of the cult of the Sovereign,” Howard introduces himself, I take a few steps forward, flexing my arms, “Hmm…Cult sounds a little…bad? It makes us seem like bad guys, so why not “The Followers of the Sovereign?” The man kept his eyes shut, smiling. “You're right, my Sovereign. We aren’t the villains in this game, the Union is,” He responds. His response was…acceptable, Upon exiting the containment unit I find myself standing in a snowy area, as far as the human eye can see is snow, beyond it is land. I don’t remember Ethernamhall having a mountain like this, where was he? “ We are currently in the snowy mountains of Old Frandhenven,” Howard had followed behind, answering his unasked question. I followed Howard down the mountain and into a car, he drove off northward. They eventually reached a large facility, I could only assume it was the follower's headquarters. Howard led me in, when we passed by other humans they couldn’t help but stare in awe, like I was their god returning from a hundred-year absence, Howard led me to a room on the third floor, I assume the leaders were waiting for him. I pushed open the doors to a council room, it reminded me of the council room the Union used to use back in Ethernamhall, where they gave him orders to kill, where he first started his true objective. Those seated, five others, stood up upon my arrival, I could feel they all felt a great sense of relief towards seeing me, much like Howard, and an odd bunch these ones were. Before I could ask them anything a sharp jolt runs through my mind, a very familiar jolt. The burst was located far from here, but getting there should be easy, without saying anything I dash through the window triggering a rune on the back of my palm, augmenting my body structure as metallic bones contort from my back, forming into wings enabling me to fly. It would take longer than normal, if my body weren’t frozen for who knows how long I’d have made it by now. The pulse came from the Desert, I hovered well out of sight of whatever it was. A large reptile-like creature lay sprawled on the ground, across from it were a few humans, and among them was the one who triggered the pulse, I used the rune to mold the wings back into my body allowing me to descend at great speeds, I managed to break my speed before I slammed through the dragon's body, allowing me to land on top. Now that I was closer I could see that the humans had fought the creature, and won.
“ Adam,” someone called out to me, I cock my head to the side as I was unsure who called out to me just then, I hop down and make my way to them, scanning each one to see who it was. One of the Humans stepped forward, to protect those behind him, I could tell he was strong. Behind him was what I wanted, “ Ahh, Cleo,” I say squinting my eyes to get a better look at them, “ Seems you survived as well, I assume that's him?” I pointed to the boy she was standing on. The boy looked…familiar, but I wasn’t sure why. “ You were never supposed to wake up, I always knew killing you was the only way to put you to sleep!” Cleo yells angrily, I pretend to look offended at her rude comment, The man at the forefront glances back at the boy and Cleo, he seems unsure of what to do. Carefully I trigger a rune, allowing me to slip past the man as I now stand before Cleo and the vessel. I grab his wrist and examine the fragment with great curiosity, “ Huh, guess you only have this, how unfortunate,” I let go. Before I could do anything else the man had struck me hard, launching me away from the boy and the others. I got up without a single scratch, “I am impressed, seems the world had advanced while I was gone,” I said, “ Allow me to properly introduce myself,” I bowed politely, keeping my head and sight forward, “ My name is Adam, and I'm here to bring an end to everything touched by humankind.”
“ The names Lan, the Anti-god,” Lan threw himself at me. The others tried stepping into the fight as well but a line of fire kept her and everyone else back, the flames flickered blue, it seemed Lan wanted this to be a one-on-one, was he able to determine my level of strength from that one hit alone? If so he might be more impressive than I thought. I continued to evade Lans attacks with ease, it was only when he began duel-wielding runes did he start to catch up to my speed, he would land a solid blow to my face but in that same instance I had struck back. Again, it seemed Lan had taken more damage from my one hit than I did with his numerous punches, Lan shifted his feet taking stance, the rune patterns on his hand grew, heat emanating off of him was far more intense than before, dark storm clouds gathered overhead as thunder rumbled throughout the Desert. A streak of lightning trails behind Lan as he bolts toward me, slamming his flame-infused fist into my face followed by a powerful uppercut launching me high into the sky, Lan throws his hand into the air before closing his fist as a thunderbolt strikes me midair. Lan had followed after me, not wasting a single second nor allowing for him to touch down. With each strike a powerful burst of wind bursts forth from them, I allowed myself to absorb the hits, my body could take it, I just needed a bit more time before I finished copying the rune he was using. From the other's perspective, it looked like the battle was going Lans way, and that he had a chance. If I were any other opponent, that would’ve been the case. But as the pinnacle of human creation, I tower over all, I trigger the condensed lightning rune as if I’ve had it the entire time a strange-coloured lightning bolt slams into Lan, a flash of red burst throughout the cloudy sky as I remain airborne. The fight was reaching its end, I dropped down to ground level as Lan staggered to his feet,
“ You’re strong, given more time you could catch up to me, perhaps even get this,” I punch Lan in the get, giving him a better look at the power he never had. Lan falls face-first as I walk towards the others. The beast stood guard, bearing her hangs at me, but it was clear she was in no condition to fight someone like me, once I was within earshot of the others I stopped. “ It would be in your best interest to steer clear of the other fragments, once I have the others I’ll come for that one,” I say pointing at the boy, I take one step back, before leaving I wished to relay a message to an old friend.
“ Tell Harry I’ll be seeing him soon,” my gaze dropped to the girl who was going to step in, she looked rather shocked upon hearing that name. With having said what was on my mind I once again triggered the lightning rune and another, allowing me to cover a great distance in an instance, I stood on the border of the Desert and Old Frandhenven, my mind still preoccupied with the boy, I racked through my memory trying to find anything that would lead to him, did he just look like someone who used to work in the Union? Maybe Harry? Or Suzuki…The realization hit him, the little boy of hers, he was there when the city fell, I made my way back to the Followers base, based on my scans I knew where one of the fragments were, getting to it should be easy but I must see to other things first. Soon enough I will regain the heart, and only then will I achieve true peace.
