Chapter 2:

The Moonlit Pact

Veil of the Shadow Hunter

A moonlit glade, surrounded by ancient, towering trees. The air shimmered with ethereal mist, thick and heavy like a forgotten dream.

The moonlight flickered through the branches above, casting jagged shadows over the clearing. Somewhere in the distance, I could just make out Yuj, a shadow among shadows. My heart pounded, each beat weighing heavily as the decision before me crept closer.

As the power surged within me, unfamiliar and electric, I fought to contain it. Fear and exhilaration mingled in my veins, a dangerous combination. Yuj's eyes locked onto mine—piercing, otherworldly—and for the first time, I caught a flicker of something behind the creature's gaze: vulnerability.

"So, human... what should I call you now? You seem more willing to speak to me. See? I'm not as terrifying as you thought."

The apartment felt warped, as though ancient magic coursed through its walls. Everything was cloaked in fog, but the sense of danger was all too real, creeping into every corner of the room.

"The echoes of forgotten times cling to your soul, Leegna. The truth will reveal itself when the stars align. But for now, let's get to business... shall we sign our deal?"

I scoffed, my mind racing with disbelief.

"A deal? My soul? Have you lost your mind?"

A laugh escaped me, though it was more forced than genuine. The absurdity of it all—a demon, or whatever Yuj was, barging into my life at midnight, promising friendship. It sounded like a twisted fairy tale.

"There's no way this is real. This is like some old legend about demons striking pacts, not a nightmare breaking into my apartment."

But Yuj remained unfazed, stepping closer, his voice low and resonant.

"What you seek to uncover is beyond your understanding. The threads of fate will unravel in time, and the truth will surface. You, the one who leaps, will gain something that was lost—something you could never reclaim on your own. You will fight forces far greater than you can imagine—Karma itself. But know this: they will see you. They will come for you... for your soul."

Before I could react, Yuj's hands shot forward, gripping mine tightly. The air shifted, and Yuj's voice rose in an ancient chant, words unfamiliar and alien. Without warning, an invisible blade seemed to pierce my stomach. There was no blood, no scar—just an unbearable weight that drove me to my knees.

The power within me erupted, no longer a trickle but a torrent. Visions flooded my mind, like fragments of a life I had never lived. Memories—strange and haunting—rushed over me. My head grew heavy, my thoughts muddled.

"What is this? What have you done to me?"

My voice trembled, though not entirely out of fear. Confusion, anger, and something else—something darker—swirled inside me.

"Am I dying? Is this how it ends? Will you... possess me?"

Questions poured from me, but Yuj offered no answers. Instead, there was silence—a silence filled with purpose.

And then, the change came.

A searing pain in my chest gave way to an unnatural calm. My breath steadied. My heart slowed. I felt... different. Stronger. And cursed.

"Blessed by a curse," I thought bitterly. "Is this the power Yuj promised?"

But would this power serve me, or would it be my undoing? As the cold night pressed against the apartment windows, I wrestled with the weight of my new reality.

The moon outside gleamed with a silvery light, a lone beacon in the abyss. It cast an eerie glow over my surroundings, as if mocking my newfound strength. No light, however bright, could penetrate the pit of hell I found myself in.

If I wanted to climb out, I would have to act. To act meant drawing a line, choosing a path, and—above all—clenching my fists in readiness.

The future was an enigma, veiled in darkness. But in this moment, only the present mattered. Peace, intoxicated by the thrill of newfound power, surged within me. Arrogance, perhaps. Yet, arrogance was the least of my concerns.

It felt as though destiny was carved into stone—a story already written.

But not this time.

Not if I had anything to say about it.

The road ahead was a puzzle, scattered with a thousand unsolved pieces. The choices I made now would determine my future—or destroy it.

Yuj, watching from the shadows, smiled to himself. He had played this game long before I was even born. And if everything went according to plan, he would reach the finish line with ease. His manipulations stretched across time, pulling strings where others thought him an ally.

But Yuj couldn't do this alone.

He needed a catalyst—a force to break through the barriers of fate. Someone capable of defying even karma itself.

Was I that force? The one destined to tear down everything that stood in my way?

Only time would tell.
