Chapter 131:
The Lifeless Supermoon: A Fateful Encounter
Though Kanako felt his actions were a bit rude, he watched as Ayane happily munched on the food that he bought for her.
"Look at you, so happy eating like this day is the last day on earth." He blurted out.
"Hm?" She looked at him with food grains stuck on her mouth. "Well duh, I didn't mess up the performance! I am proud of that!" Her words matched her current ego. Kanako smiled and rubbed his handkerchief against her lips, removing the crumbs. He was happy. This is a great development from the gloomy Ayane that he met. Todays Ayane looks a lot more cheerful than before.
"By the way, where did Sayaka-senpai go?" She asked as she opened a new box.
"It's her old school, it's not like she is lost or something. She might be hanging out in her club. We can go check it out if you want." But something was bothering him as he looked at Ayane's box. "That is going to be the last box you are going to eat, okay? You are eating too much."
"Don't be like that." She gave a cunning smile as she lifted her arm. "Here, I will give you a bite."
Kanako's heart skipped a beat. "Y-you do remember that we are in public, right?"
"O-oh." She suddenly saw the side eyes and gazes that the others were giving her.
Though Ayane eating more than usual is a concern for Kanako, it was something else that truly bothered him. He didn't know if now was the right time to ask her about it.
"What happened, Kanako-kun? You suddenly look all quiet."
"No, it's just... something was bothering me for a while... and I don't know when it is the right time to ask you about it. It might ruin the mood if I ask you now... you might even come to hate me afterwards."
Her pouting at the words he said wasn't in the list of expression he thought she might do after hearing those words, so he was a bit surprised. "Now, if you don't tell me now then I will come to hate you even more than if you told me."
"What... that doesn't make sense."
"Come on now, speak up."
"Uhh... where do I start... it's about that day, that supermoon day... I want to know what really happened that pushed you to such limits. I want to help you..."
She froze as she remembered those days that led up to her trying to end herself on that day. Kanako go afraid that it was truly not the right time to ask her that. He was secretly blaming himself. But her eyes wasn't blank this time, it had life...
