Chapter 5:
Laurels Journey
The days had really gone by so fast! We were already at the middle of the semester, midterms were a breeze, all that was left was practical stuff.
“We should be starting practical magic lessons next week, I'm so terrified.”
“Really?” I asked.
It made sense to be scared, the academy's practical magic lessons were no joke, they were intense; to say the least and student deaths weren't a rarity.
And yet—I don’t know if you’d call this feeling anything other than excitement! Oh umm, no—I mean all the hard work and effort I put in was finally gonna pay off!
I could understand why Fleta was scared. But in my mind, she was a little—too scared.
“It's normal to be scared, and all, but don't let that fear way you down. You've worked hard, have some faith in yourself,” I said.
“I... You really are something else Ms Everlyne.”
Hmm?
No idea what she meant by that, but I loooove you too! I reached out to embrace the fluffy pink haired girl. Fleta was so precious not as precious as Charlotte but still...

Oh, right—there’s one other important thing we had to do before we could start our practical magic lessons. It's super important, so I shouldn’t forget to mention it. The examination of our blessings, everyone equally is given a blessing and an attribute corresponding to that blessing by the goddess of Light. Occasionally some are given curses...but, that hardly ever happens.
“...If you could all remain silent pleease. I will now begin the ritual!” Our teacher announced.
All the girls in class 6F were now seated silently.
She began to chant.
For those who hadn't awakened their blessings naturally a ritual was required.
As the name suggests, blessings were a form of gift. If nothing else really it was just a nice little trick to have up your sleeve—they were neither as powerful as magic nor as versatile.
In short having a blessing was no big deal, because blessings could never rival true magic. Regardless, having been derived from the goddess of Light, they were still somewhat useful and sacred.
The main reason why we had to find out our blessings before we could start practical lessons was because of the attribute attached to our blessings.
Each blessing came with an attribute.
Knowing what attribute was attached to your blessing would let you know what magic you were best at.
I was eager to find out what mine was. Could mine be fire! Ice! Maybe even darkness or light!
Lady Maribel Winterfrost, an amazing witch and Charlotte's mother for example had the blessing of thermal fluctuation, which came with the attribute of both fire and ice.
The blessing itself wasn't that useful, it allowed her to control her body's temperature nothing special.
But her skill and power with fire and ice magic were beyond amazing! There weren't any witches in the past she’d lose to if she had a go at, I'd heard.
...You still don't understand?
Hmm—basically blessings help you know what magic you're good at. Simple.
A glowing magic circle spread around the entire class. Our teacher just about finished the chant for the ritual.
“O, beautiful goddess of light, hear this humble elf’s prayers and grant these children your blessings...” She spoke.
Just then it hit me. A crazy sense of fatigue.
My consciousness gradually faded; it was relaxing, it was entrancing, not even being able to resist the temptation of sleep. I passed out while awake. I was in a deep trance like state. And there, in that deep, deep darkness beyond the reaches of consciousness I heard her voice.
Blake Everlyn. My, my, what a strange and foul soul you have, allow me to feel it, shape it, eat away at it. After all it belongs to me. Not to worry I'll be gentle...
Does it feel good?
your soul throbbing at my touch? How strange....
....
All done now.
The blessing Telekinesis has completed synthesizing with your soul. The power to manipulate the world without physical interaction is yours to keep. Its elemental attribute is wind.
(… Successful… Your reincarnation was successful, Teufel.)
The ritual was over. My pulse was racing. My cheeks were flushed. And my body was drenched in sweat. I had just listened to her voice—the voice of the goddess, I wasn't expecting the aftereffects to be mild, but for them to be this dramatic, was something else.
...Man, talk about a powerful presence. I couldn’t wait to ask Fluffy Pink hair about what the goddess had said to her!
The whole thing was so magical and unforgettable that I just had to talk to someone about it!
Before long, the light and magic circle drawn onto the floor faded.
“Okay, it’s over...” Teacher sighed. “Great job. For now, I would like you all to write down your blessings and attributes and anything else the goddess may have said.”
Keeping my mind clear, I recalled every word the Goddess spoke.
I think she mentioned something about manipulating the world with wind! No. Maybe that wasn't exactly what she said, but it was something along those lines right? Right...
What did she say again?
She was so incredibly vivid and clear when she spoke to me—yet, I couldn't begin to remember what she did or said to me.
“Hey, what did the goddess say to you…?”
"No idea,"
“I can't remember anything does this mean I fail as a witch…?!”
“Whoa! Aha ha ha ha! I can't remember a thing! This is so weird!”
Seems I wasn't the only one, it’s kinda funny how everyone forgot!
Everyone was only able to remember bits and pieces of what the goddess said. And even then, it was only the parts about the blessings and attributes that were the clearest.
“Excuse me.” Teacher cut through the babble of voices. “You don’t have anything to worry about students, it's only natural that you do not remember, our divine goddess, is outside the realm of understanding.”
The goddess was a concept far beyond mortal understanding.
“However, the essential information regarding your blessing, and your attribute, have already been transferred directly to your consciousness, and your bodies and mind should acclimate to this new found information soon.”
“Until then, write down what you can remember, then, rest and take it easy,” Teacher said with a gentle smile.
Apparently, the memory of the goddess of light, was so pure and holy that our human flesh couldn't retain it, whatever that means. A pretty strange reason, if you ask me. But that didn't matter, all that mattered was that I could start practical magic classes now!
I took a moment to carefully asses my memories.
So, if I remember correctly my blessing is teh·luh·kuh·nee·suhs? And my attribute is wind. Well, whatever, no one cares about the stupid blessing. The really important bit is my attribute!
Finally we can get to practical magic class!
I can't wait to start!
