Chapter 8:
The Hunters Duality
The A-rank aether wolf continued to howl and roar as the remaining chunks of ice swiftly melted off its large body. Its aether was acid one of the many counters to Honō’s ice, but it was not time to despair yet as from what they had seen the beast could only excrete acid from its fur.
Honō pieced this knowledge together as he watched the ice fall and melt off the beast. As the last piece of ice around the wolf’s joints dropped Honō and Witz began to sprint towards the beast, Honō charged to its front while Witz looped round to its side.
While they approached the beast Honō extended his katana of condensed ice with his aether. As the beast recovered from being frozen, Witz prepared to launch an attack from behind the A-rank.
The beast fully recovered now looking at Honō began to meet him in his charge when suddenly Honō began to yell “WITZ NOW” before launching another glacial voltage at the A-rank aether wolf’s paws.
When Honō yelled this Witz launched another double shot this time doubling the shots as much as she could.
As both the shots and wave of electric frost came near the beast it dodged to the side to avoid the wave of electric frost causing witz to now double each of the shots before they hit the ground in the direction of the beast.
As the shots hit the beast it yelped in pain before slamming the ground repeatedly causing a large smokescreen of dust to rise. After the dust rised it left both Honō and Witz blind but not the beast, the beast still could smell them.
While no one could see what was happening in the smokescreen, what could be heard was rapid steps, slams, and punches.
After a minute of these sounds a new sound began to emerge the sound of rapidly circulating liquid a few seconds of this sound a massive shockwave of wind got sent out from the epicentre of the commotion causing the smokescreen of dust to get blown away.
When the dust cleared all that could be seen was the broken remains of a blade of ice left stabbed in the beasts front paw and Witz standing in front of a in pained beasts maw after what looked like throwing a punch at its jaw which was now dislocated and hung slowly filling up with a mix of acid and blood which had dripped onto Witz’s gauntlet which she had used to punch the beast. Honō stood further back after being pushed back by the shockwave.
Witz with the other gauntlet attempted to charge up another punch to which nothing happened.
Both of her gauntlets had either ran out of the purple liquid in which powered them or been damaged beyond use. As Witz stood there unable to attack the beast that was in front of her was struck by the aether wolf into a nearby tree. After Witz tired body hit the tree she began to fall unconscious from both the impact and fatigue.
When Honō looked at his friend, unconscious on the ground his face went blank and expressionless as he began to form a new sword of ice from the remains his katana this time in the shape of a zweihander.
While Honō formed his zweihander of condensed ice made of electric frost, the beast began swiftly charging towards him preparing to attack. As the beast approached, Honō blade in hand began slashing the air over and over sending a barrage of glacial voltages at the charging wolf’s body.
As each of the glacial voltages came at the beast it began to dodge and weave as many of them as it could but due to the wound in it front paw from the now melted blade of the katana of ice was stabbed leading to many of the attacks to hit the beast's body directly freezing it making the beast unable to continue its charge or even move.
The ice once more began to melt but unlike last time Honō would not give it time to melt completely as he had already begun to dash towards the frozen beast. As he got close, he leaped onto the frozen back of the beast's neck and froze himself to it as so that if when his prey would break free, he would not be thrown off so easily.
As Honō steadied himself on the back of his prey's neck, he leaned closer to the front of the beast’s head and shoved his blade down its throat with little resistance due to the wolf’s dislocated jaw. As Honō shoved his blade down its throat, the beast began to swing its head wildly trying to throw the mad hunter off its head while splashing the pooling acid in its dislocated jaw onto the base of Honō’s blade.
Honō did not care as he continued to plunge his sword deeper down its throat until he could no more, until the very blade itself would break from its handle. The ice on the beast had nearly melted away, allowing it enough movement to hit Honō with a powerful attack to his head using its claws, knocking Honō of its neck and snapping the handle from the rest blade lodged in its throat.
Due to the Zweihanders shape, the blade still lodged in the beast’s throat began to cut the flesh inside its throat. Honō near unconscious from the blow looked at the beast and clenched his fist before loosing consciousness.
As Honō had clenched his fist the sword begun to burst into ice, freezing his prey from the inside out and causing spikes of blood dyed ice to rip through the belly of the beast where the sword was pointing, killing the A-rank instantly in a gruesome manner.
The battle against the beasts of Zallo village was over.
Leaving all of Honō’s prey slaughtered.
