Chapter 0:
The Song of Hesperus
3 years after the events of the first arc
Kael, I've never written a letter before, but now I feel the necessity to do so. After all that has happened, all that we have risked, the few things we have obtained... We are alright. Thank you for clearing us the way out of this hell and thank you for the lot of times you've saved me and everyone else here with me. We're coming back from Lime after using the portal to the continent...
I'm very happy I'll be able to see you again after this long journey back. We are all very anxious of seeing you again, especially your best friend and her wife...
Love from everyone, but most importantly from me.
“Kael, what a good place to find you... there's a letter for you!”
An old man with a full short white beard and hair came forward towards the front entrance of a big house. The streets were empty and quiet as if the universe was taking a big breath.
In front of the house door stood a tall guy. His face was half pitch black, while the other half was normal and showed a light and smooth skin, a shining emerald green eye and light gray short hair.
He turned towards the old man and smiled.
“Master! Glad to see ya...”, he told with his juvenile and solar voice, waving in the meantime.
“Oh, don't call me Master... neither Uncle nor Messenger! I'm a retired man after all...”, he said replicating the smile under his beard, “Here...”
Kael took the envelope with the letter inside and as soon as he saw the name written behind, his eyes lit up like the ones of a kid in front of a new toy.
“...Thanks, Hulock. It was time for you to take some rest... and thanks again for taking care of the house.”, he lightly bowed and then turned the letter in his hands, fidgeting from the wait since he wanted to open it immediately.
“Oh, don't mention it! I just did you a favor...”, Hulock shrugged off with a wave of the hand.
Kael glanced at him again, his smile faltering a little bit.
“But... I think there will be other problems.”, he talked while looking gloomily at his feet, “You know... that thing about hell and the tensions here in Uberdia.”
Hulock knew the meaning of that but still kept a reassuring smile, “I know. Mitir achieved his goal and yet the nobles and population are still unhappy with the corruption and the way this reign is being held up. And not to mention... that newly-founded group of revolutionist...”
“We can't think about that now! I know that everyone will agree in going to hell with me for that mission but... you, please... just enjoy the rest of your life in Lime.”, Kael pleaded forcing a smile.
Hulock turned around laughing heartily, “Sure, will do! Anyway, read that letter. Hope you get well before she comes back with the others. She's been waiting dearly for you and you surely don't want her to get apprehensive of your health!”
“Ehehe, I'll read it, don't worry! Bye, Hulock!”, he waved as the old man walked away, disappearing around a corner.
It was all silent now. Only a few distant voices and the feeble sounds of wagons and marching horses could be heard from the solitary street where Kael's house was located. He looked at the sky, covering his eyes from the sun. There were no clouds and its color resembled the one of the ocean. He sighed and went back inside.
“Live on and dig me a grave...”, he mumbled before closing the door.
