Chapter 17:
Streamer Royale
With the match concluded, everyone stared in silence.
"Well, guess we resume where we left off," Julius shrugged.
But that wasn't to be the case, as not only did the girls get their clothes back, but Nyoan, Julius, and Deep Diver all warped away.
"Oi, the hell just happened?" Serika trembled.
"You remember what I said at the start of the match, right?" Carol asked.
"'We win, we get our clothes back and you never bother us again.' So they're actually gonna adhere to that shit!?"
"That's the power of the DESPER. It can make the impossible possible. Heck, I was once shot in the back by a scumbag and on death's door, but thanks to me winning a DESPER match, I was able to get everything healed on the spot."
"Wait! That thing you mentioned can heal things like that!?" Yuni cried.
"Yup."
Yuni went silent as a realization came to her. "Then, is that how Okaa-chan-"
"You're thinking okaa got better thanks to that thing? I mean it's possible, but that Muramasa guy is the more likely reason. I mean, remember what he did back in Venice?" Serika grumbled.
Yuni went silent and nodded.
"Making the impossible possible... Guess that explains how Julius came to be. Either he was willed into existence, or someone beat poor Jaime and forced him into an eternity of cosplay. Not gonna lie, that shit would be lit for bets if it didn't have that cursed aspect to it. Imagine the crazy shit we could do with it," Astrid sighed.
"Best not to get too enamored with it. So what do we do now?" Carol asked.
Everyone went silent, before Yuni spoke up and decided it was best to just rest a bit more, or if everyone was already rested, to venture into town when it stopped raining.
"The rain doesn't look like it's letting up, and we just got our clothes back, and they're warm, too. But I don't know how good I feel staying here. There's more of those goons, right? And even though we bet that they can never bother us again, who says that applies to their buddies that weren't present?" Serika grumbled.
She made a good point. The wager would only apply to those that were present.
"Should have wished for ponchos, or better yet, should have wished for us all to go home," Serika growled.
Carol blinked before immediately slapping herself in the face. "Ugh! Why didn't I think of that!?"
"Don't worry about it. I have a feeling things wouldn't be so easy anyway. I mean, you really think they'd use that thing on us if winning was all it took to send us home? Sounds to easy," Astrid scowled.
"Yeah, that girl even said the plan was perfect, so why would it have such a notable loophole like that?" Yuni frowned.
"Well, food for thought. Next time we encounter one of those, we try seeing if they can warp us all home."
Thus, the gameplan was set. But unbeknownst to the girls, they were right on the money. Had they tried to make being sent back home part of the wager, the DESPER wouldn't have accepted it, stating it was not possible. While DESPERs could make he impossible possible, they couldn't make ANYTHING possible. Not to mention, a force more powerful than the DESPERs was responsible for keeping everyone in this world. There was no way said force would let people leave so easily.
As the girls stepped outside, they noticed it was still raining, but now townsfolk seemed to be out and about.
"Just like a JRPG. Who's ready to explore?" Astrid grinned.
