Chapter 41:

Sibling Separator

My Job is a Mess, But So is My Love Life: Wage Slaving, Weird Co-Workers, and Wild Romance

A problem was growing, and Cyrus did not like it. Or the work it would take to fix it. He stared at the screen to see what he had lined up for the next few days. Leigha and Miles would be working the same shift. You would think siblings could get along, but not these two.

Cyrus pulled over his cup to take a drink, only to find it was empty. It was time he switched over to tea for the day. He opened the door and stood up, closing the door behind him. He passed by the storage closet to see Sierra inside, grabbing things.

"Need help?" asked Cyrus.

"I'm fine. It's only a few things," she answered, turning back to the task at hand. She stood on her tiptoes, trying to reach an item but was unable. Cyrus shrugged and continued on his way.

"Leigha, stop trying to fix my hair," Miles demanded. Cyrus found Miles trying to clean a table while Leigha was fixing his hair. He had come in with a strange hairstyle after taking off his beanie, so after some water, it was back to normal. Enough to look presentable as the curls still weren't exactly co-operating. His sister insisted on fixing the mess.

"Miles, let me fix it really quick. Please. What if you get sick from damp hair?" His sister ran behind him with a comb and a towel, trying to dry and brush his hair.

"I was already sick this season. I'm not going to get sick again."

"Which is why you have to make sure you don't get sick again. Your immune system might be still weak if it was recent."

"My immune system is fine."

Cyrus walked behind the bar, filling his cup with hot water, then adding a tea bag as he watched. Ramona happened to be walking nearby with a tray of food when she tripped over her feet. Miles dropped what he was doing and saved her and the food from falling. Once they were safe, Leigha came up to him and continued to dry his hair.

"See, if you don't take care of yourself, who is going to save your soulmate?"

Ramona turned pink, whether it was from Leigha's statement or that Leigha had finally dried the hair that was out of place, giving Miles a princely look. Miles stood up, bringing the food and Ramona with him. She turned even a darker pink before running off.

"She is not my soulmate." Miles affirmed, setting the food on the table.

"Girlfriend then."

"Not my girlfriend."

Ramona came back to take the food then proceeded to the designated table.

"Well, do you have a girlfriend?"

"I don't have time for a girlfriend."

"Aw, come on, you're young. Be free and date someone. Date Ramona!"

"No! Not with you pushing it."

"Aw, please, I always wanted a little sister."

"You never wanted a younger sibling."

"How would you know?" she teased and Miles growled in frustration.

Cyrus looked at the other workers, who were glancing at the arguing siblings.

"Can't you schedule them so they don't work together?" asked Oliver, who had been working the bar.

Cyrus groaned as he pouted.

"I already have them on schedule to work for the next three days together."

Oliver sighed, "Please, it's giving everyone a headache. Plus, Anita isn't in to keep Leigha entertained."

"Leigha is older than you and doesn't need someone entertaining her."

They heard a crash and both turned to see Miles and Leigha fighting over a box of dirty dishes. Miles was insisting that he could take them to Shasta himself, but Leigha was determined to help.

"Please separate them, for the love of everyone's sanity," begged Oliver.

Cyrus scowled, their arguing growing on his nerves.

"Sonata," he barked, as the siblings turned towards him.

"Sonata, take the dishes to the kitchen. Other Sonata, help Taft in the storage closet!"

The siblings looked at each other then looked back to Cyrus.

"Which Sonata?" they asked in unison.

"Grrr!" He pointed at Miles first. "Sonata 1, take the dishes to Shasta. Sonata 2 help Taft in the storage closet." He stomped off, with the siblings hurrying to their tasks. At least they were hard workers, which was the only real reason to keep them on staff. Working together he would fix, even if it meant Cyrus had to take the time to figure it out.

An hour or so later, he posted a new schedule in the breakroom, separating the siblings. Everyone but Leigha was much relieved.
